Regarding NwN camera changes in v1.28:

"Added "unlockcamera 1" console command. This overrides min/max pitch and distance to allow distances from 1 - 25, and pitch from 1 - 89." - from NwN v1.28b patch readme

http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch_beta.html

Patch can be downloaded from the above address.

Full patch notes are here, courtesy of Neverwinter vault.

The game is getting better. I cannot forgive it for its piss-poor single player campaign, but its the most multiplayer fun I've had in ages. All in all it was a worthwhile purchase, but I don't believe it should win any awards. The single player campaign was just too horrible.

NWN is a game. It's a game that has many faces. Take BF1942 for example. I don't know anyone that plays the game offline. NWN has a decent official campaign, multiplayer, revolutionary DM support (Vampire does not count), easy-to-use-difficult-to-master toolset, more than 2000 custom modules, free additional official modules series and non-stop Live Team support. Maybe you don't like it but you can't deny it is one of its kind.

And about 1.28: http://nwvault.ign.com/comments/1044387070,43896,.shtml

The camera hack hasn't been out nearly as long as you say. It should have been officially supported. I understand that NWN is more broad than it's single player, but it's so hard to get over a game with THAT shitty of an official campaign. I also hate the engine in general... I just HATE it. I think they picked really bad graphical/artistic styles, and didn't really give you many character customizing options. I have played Witches Wake, and it was a lot better than the OC. I also haven't heard anything about a camera fix in 1.28. Please point me to doccumentation. Their roadmap certainly says nothing of it, nor have i read anything on the forums.

23. Outstanding Achievement in Character or Story Development
Age of Empires II (PC) Ensemble Studios Microsoft (Winner)
NOX (PC) Westwood Studios Westwood Studios
Omikron: The Nomad Soul (PC) Quantic Dream Eidos Interactive
Thief: The Dark Project Looking Glass Studios Eidos Interactive
Planescape: Torment Black Isle Studios Interplay Entertainment Corp.

WTF?!!!? Age of Empires didn't even have a story, it was a couple of historical campaigns for crying out loud. This is especially insulting considering that Planescape: Torment is one of the runners up. PS:T still has the best story of any PC Game ever. Period.

And about OC and all that relates to it, you should know that it is hardly 10% of the game.

Then why market NWN as a game? If the actual game is utter shit but it's only "10%" of the product, why should I buy the "software" on the merits of the game? Bioware payed off the reviewers and duped me. It's gonna take some serious convincing for me to pick up KotOR.

On the subject of the awards, Mafia was by far the best game of the year, with Battlefield 1942 and Freedom Force as runners up. The supposed banner year for RPGs produced a level editor (NWN), a first-person adventure (Morrowind) and an isometric action game(Dungeon Siege). IWD2 was the only decent one of the CRPG lot, but even it was plagued with an obsolete engine. Too bad all of the magazines and websites are more concerned with recognizing their biggest advetising contributors than recognizing good games.

Well, someone get a petition up then, we seem to all be in agreement over Mafia. How quaintly ironic that an academy of interactive arts overlooks easily the most compelling, artistic game of the year.

Oh well, they're still learning, at least they did reasonably well with the other nominations, I don't really have a diatribe to go off on...

There were many good PC games this year. Much more than 5. You can't nominate all of them. And, you must admit, the nominated ones are not bad games at all.

And to speak about NWN; too limited camera? Guys you probably don't know but camera hack existed almost right from the beginning and the upcoming 1.28 patch is going to give the official solution. And about OC and all that relates to it, you should know that it is hardly 10% of the game. You should try Witch's Wake, believe me.

Innovation in PC Gaming: Grand Theft Auto III?

They do know that GTA3 was a console game before it went PC right?

Actually, screw that thought. Not nominating Mafia says it all. I'll stick to Gamespot's yearenders thank you. It's truly a pity that such an authoritative-sounding body has succumbed to this controversy.

Best (single player) RPG of last year - here in Germany - was Gothic II. Morrowind is a pretty distant second.

Mafia was pretty damned kewl.
BF1942 is friggin' awesome.
ermm...Morrowind anyone?

Ugh...I can't believe MOHAA is on there. Talk about a
boring game. BF1942 and Hitman 2 were 80 times the game
that was.

And I agree about WC3...not a bad game, but innovative???

I guess some companies just couldn't pay up this year.
Heh...I'm surprised Sims isn't on there. Oh wait...there it
is.

This is only open to companies that pay to be members. It's just another on eof thse phoney baloney awards created by a handful of large publishers so they can buy their titles some more press.
I really wish gaming news sites-like Blue's-would cease giving these guys any print time at all.
Any announcements fom them should go straight into the recycle bin along with porn emails.

Because the developers didn't pay the bucks to be included in the nominations(at least I guess they didn't, many don't):( Thats how it works, I read it on Avault a year back when they were saying how some other awards were alot more reliable.

oh can someone please tell me how the hell Dungeon Siege innovates?
