Unreal II & More Game Movies

The Unreal II: The Awakening Media Index on GameSpot now offers free downloads of a new Unreal II movie, as well as a couple of other movies that can only be accessed by subscribers to their complete service. Also, there's a new Iritor Online Trailer on RPG Vault, featuring "A look at a mech entering a hive-like colony of the Mutaloi, an insect-like species in Wootsoft's online world." Also, three new Tomb Raider movies are available, which are part of a planned promotional campaign between Eidos and G4 (the game cable television channel). The movies can be found on Gamer's Hell and Worthplaying. Meanwhile, on the console front, there's a new Halo 2 movie on Xbox.Com (thanks Gamer's Hell, though they point out this is actually just a succession of still images), and a new English Soul Calibur 2 Official Site is online with a new gameplay trailer from this fighting game sequel. Finally, there's a Devastation movie on Worthplaying, but this was released over the summer, so if you've been keeping up with this, you are already set.

Halo, Bungie, and MS have pissed me off to the Nth degree..

So first the buy out Halo so we never see it on a PC (which would have allowed for better GFX, netplay, etc..)

Then they tell us they are going to release Halo on PC, but only when the game is no longer popular, completely outdated and nobody has heard of it.

Then they delay Halo for PC cuz they want Halo 2 3 and 7 to come out on XBOX before the original Halo comes out on PC so they can at least make a bIT more money on a crappy gaming console.

Of course Halo2 will see no graphics or engine improvements because it still has to run on the same crappy ass 1999 hardware (ok 2000).

So finally I breakdown and decide I'm going to watch the Halo2 trailer anyways, only to find out I need to download Media player 9 (a buggy peice of shit) in order to watch the trailer!!

If only I could piss as far as Redmond.

Eat my shit Bill.

--Zaq

--UPDATE: So I downloaded the media player and I still can't find where to download the halo 2 trailer... figures

Yeah, I don't see how they can charge for that. I know they have a lot of other stuff on there as well, but I'd rather wait and get the video somewhere else.

Game movies are proof that the games industry is out of touch with their market. There was a time that the PC game industry used free demos for product samples.

The Shareware model was an heirloom passed down to a careless industry playing to a clueless audience. As dollars continue to reward tireless greed and bad management, the industry will consume its own goodwill, leaving nothing behind but failed companies, disowned software and landfills of disposable hardware.

Until games are sufficiently diverse enough to appeal to a wide range of consumers as, say, movies are, they will not be able to get by on disingenuous marketing techniques (like game movies). In the near-vertical market of the boy-gamer, pay-to-preview will never work.

In this long adolescence of video gaming, free demos, developer tools and community involvement is core to building solid ground for an increasingly uncertain future.

Anyone unwilling to watch the Halo Trailer on MS-Media player, don't fret. You aren't missing anything new. It's a slideshow of screenshots from the earlier Halo 2 trailer. played to the same music. Waste of time and not even worthy of a mention on x-box.com

Unreal II, no demo, pay to see video footage, Hahaha. I'm warezing this one just out of spite.

I never thought I'd use this word to describe something, but the voice acting in Unreal II is so...GAY! And I mean flaming gay, not manly gay.

The twerp who keeps interrupting your game not only gives you utterly useless and boneheadedly wrong information (twice he says, "The coast is clear!" and of course, its not) but he sounds like a complete IDIOT! He sounds like a little fresh faced, 22-year-old, cornflower-blue-tie-wearing corporate worker bee or some kids show host on Nickelodeon, not a savvy military tactics specialist.

The people who do these Unreal games must be homos, because Unreal Tournament 2003 has the same problem. The annnouncer sounds like the moviefone guy -- basically an idiot. Here your "partners" sound like little gay boys.

What is up with them?

When I buy Unreal 2, I'm going to have my friend put in on the net with a nasty virus. For real, and I hope all you cheap ass thieving loosers get it! And good riddence if you do! I saw the trailer and this game looks awesome. The folks who work thier asses off to bring us this kind of entertainment deserve the pay they get. You loosers! Just wait!

Not a surprise, since that voice is of a guy who's most certainly _not_ a savvy military tactics specialist; he's just a colonist. As a matter of fact, a "little fresh faced"..."worker bee" is exactly what he is. He's a young kid talking to you through those cameras, who's impressed by seeing a military man with firepower (i.e. you). And one of the videos out there even shows what happens to this kid (if you feel like spoiling it for yourself).

- The video/computer-games market already surpasses the film industry in gross sales (in the U.S. at least).

- It may irritate you (like it irritates me) that there will be only Unreal2 videos rather than a demo, but there is nothing "disingenuous" about marketing the game this way.
