Men of Valor: Vietnam Announced

Vivendi Universal Games and 2015 Announce Development of Men of Valor: Vietnam, Sierra Entertainment to Publish Next Installment from 2015 is the press release announcing development on an Unreal-engine first-person shooter set in the jungles of Vietnam. The game is planned for a release in 2004 for both the PC and the Xbox, with development being handled by 2015, the folks behind Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Here is a bit from the description: "The storyline follows the player through the major actions in the conflict, from search and destroy missions around Danang airbase to the Tet offensive and the counterattack on Hue. A cast of AI controlled characters accompanies the player through the missions, and he learns their value and mourns their loss as the war progresses. The game will support a cooperative mode that allows the player to experience the entire tour of duty with his friends, and various multiplayer modes allow the player to experience the war from the perspective of North Vietnamese Army or Viet Cong guerillas as well as US Forces." Update: Some screenshots from the game can be found on Worthplaying.

I wonder how or even if they're gonna discuss that whole issue.

From a negative perspective, I bet they'll either kill you off (ala Mafia) or make you go insane in the end. From a positive perspective, well I can't think of one for a questionably unnecessary war at the moment.

Striking a balance between the two could get difficult. Perhaps they'll make it less of a battle and more a descent into hell such as Apocalypse Now. Bah! Maybe they'll just make it pure action.

Nope it was a full game using the same engine (Build) that Duke used. It was horrendous.

Anyone remember the game NAM on the build engine? Good times (about 15 minutes before I erased it off my hard drive actually)!

Looks = nothing.

It's all about the gameplay. Vietcong's Multiplayer while not revolutionary, is very fun. It totally gives a feeling of having to look in 360 degrees to make sure you aren't going to get iced. True, the engine in the demo looks a couple of years old, the player models are nice though. And like I said, I'll take gameplay over looks anyday. Why do you think i avoid MOHAA and BF1942, I've played them both multi and I still return to DOD, I'm not a DOD fanboi, if something comes along that can recreate the feeling I get while rushing through Caen2 with 2 of my buds, hell I'm all over it

Wow, if they could re-create the "feel" of the time period a la "Apocalypse Now" that would be cool, much like Medal of Honor emulated 'Saving Private Ryan".

Will the Vietcong look Asian? Seems like the only thing that's Open Season to shoot "Politically Correctly" these days are Nazi's and Robots.

Even if you win, you still lose.

If they give it the same kind of historically-enlightened presentation they bestowed on Spearhead (Poems, Historial Pictures and Videos, etc.)...

I thought that element of Spearhead was extremely forced and campy. While mission briefings with historical footage is cool, I thought the poems were brought on just to make it seem like the developers were paying respect to veterans with the game.

As for the Vietnam game I'm not to sure about the Medal of Honor approach to that particular conflict. I don't know what the difference is but in my mind there is a difference that would make Medal of Honor: Vietnam unappropriate.

That said a Vietnam game I would really like to see would be an X-Com like experience based upon the Studies and Observations Group. Imagine a strategic-element where you assign various reconaisance teams to the various SOG bases. You would hire on Montagnard and Nung mercenaries to go on said recon patrols. Because of political considerations for Laos and Cambodia airpower would be limited and you would have to give priority to the various teams you would have in the field. Once a team was on the ground you'd go into a first person squad based game that would heavily involve stealth but if compromised a balls to the wall firefight could ensue. Toss in realistic weaponary and counter-detection measures and the squad element would be thorougly awesome. Anyway thats my idea for a Vietnam game.

And some 60s music would be nice too...

This is the end, my only friend, the end....

I can assure you that 2015 was developing this game before they even knew Vietcong existed. I used to work there (resigned a month ago or so, moved onto Origin to pursue other interests).

Besides, I think MOV lookis hell of alot better then Vietcong.

Does this mean that Vietnam is now a 'hot' war to set a game in?

It sounds like it's in good hands.
