Out of the Blue

Well this cold thing is getting worse, but I'm glad I mentioned my hopes of skirting it, as comments in the forums inspired me to go out and get some of that Cold-eeze stuff that's attracted some praise for lessening the severity and duration of colds (though it specifically says it's probably not up to the flu). This is pretty remarkable stuff that's done a great job of easing my sore throat and sniffles, apparently all done via the magic of some sort of zinc compound. It's available in a variety of products under different brands, and seems more effective than other over-the-counter cold meds, even those of the 'do not drive or operate heavy machinery' variety.

qUm... Yes, that would be the definition of trolling...
I beg to disagree, a really good troll will post opinions tat are valid, but controversial in forums that hold the polar opposite attitude in general. For example I might post here along the lines of "there is a clear ondirect but significant link between violence in media including video games and violence in society" which is certainly a defensible position but if phrased just correctly will annoy the greatest number in the shortest time.

frederickson merely represents the shouting, abusive, lying kid end of the trolling world.

Ok I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but...

fredrickson you have your facts totally messed up. The Quake was about 7.8 (which is certainly severe, but no where close to "11.2") and 19 people died (not "100,000").

Additionally this was reported by the US news media right after it happened.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/americas/01/22/mexico.quake/index.html

If you were truly concerned about the welfare of Mexican lives you would be doing something to try and end the reign of terror that the gangs and drug lords are currently waging on the country. Mexico's #1 business right now? Kidnapping their own populace (often with the assistance of the local police) for ransom.

http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9606/18/mexico.kidnap/

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/2462965.stm

http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/sections/archive/topstoryjmp/11-18-02/news5.htm

And lastly, why the bleep are you expressing anger at supposed (untrue) US ignorance of an earthquake in Mexico on a gaming news site?

...oh yeah, I forgot...you're a troll.

Yah they might if you reported the facts correctly.

The quake was only 7.8 according to the latest reports and very few reported injuries as of 11:46 PM EST.

MEXICO CITY - A powerful earthquake measuring at 11.2 shook Mexico's Pacific coast late Tuesday, sending panicked residents spilling into the streets of Mexico City and knocking over large buildings of the empoverished city. Over 100,000 are believed dead.

This part of ISO7816 is important for card manufacturers. They are the ones that choose the materials and establish a process that embeds the integrated circuit into the card.

http://www.cardwerk.com/smartcards/smartcard_standard_ISO7816-1.aspx

Puts it in better terms.

From the article:

Furthermore ISO7816-1 defines the characteristics of a card when it is bent or flexed. This is to make sure that plastic cards with embedded chips are manufactured in a way that guarantees flawless operation over the expected life time of a card. Connections beween the surface connectors and the I/O pins of the embedded silicon die must be maintaned and withstand mechanical stress. Bending and flexing procedures are standardised in ISO 7816.

This part of ISO7816 is important for card manufacturers. They are the ones that choose the materials and establish a process that embeds the integrated circuit into the card.

Ok, you have a hard drive the size of a credit card with movable parts, a spinning disk. What is your average consumer going to do with it? Put it in his wallet and sit on it. Bend it slightly and presto. No more moving parts.

We'll see, the site (http://www.storcard.com/products/prod_tech.html) states The StorCard has the flexibility and form factor of a credit card and conforms to ISO 7816-1 including mechanical flexibility along the longitudinal and transverse axis without damage to the IC or the magnetic recording medium. but that doesn't tell us anything - any mechanical geeks here who can explain ISO 7816-1 specs to me?

Cold - Eeze and Zicam both have some scientific support for working. There was a good journal article in early 2002 supporting it. The catch is that it must be started within the first 24 hours of symptoms, otherwise most of the benefit you get is probably placebo.....

Medically this makes sense, as most of the lingering symptoms from a cold are due to loss of mucosal cells. The bulk of that mucosal loss likely occurs in the first 24 hours of cold symptoms, so if you stop that, you lessen the cold severity....
