Ever bought something from the people you linked? Decent service? I've been looking for a place like this.

No, I'm afraid I've never bought cables online. It was just a site that came up when I did a google search. I typically don't shop based on price with cables, just availability in the local shops. If the first place I go has it, they've got my business.

I understand the difference between optical vs. coaxial, I do this for a living. My point is a simple little piece of plastic cannot convert from optical to coaxial. The specs you quoted do not say if the Digital Out is optical or coaxial. I don't think it is optical. That was my point.

OOoooooooooh. I hear the term "optical" bandied about incorrectly so much that I completely missed what you were saying. Oops! Yeah, think I was wrong before, and I hope nobody went out and bought an adapter based on what I said. The Creative people lump their Audigy 2 and Audigy 2 Platinum info all in one space, so I think I gave advice based on the Platinum's optical SPDIF-in connector. Oy, that sucks. How embarassing, considering how the author of the original post I was attempting to help probably won't be back to read this.

I guess the only Audigy 2 optical solution is something like this product, found on Creative's web site in the "accessories" section: (http://www.americas.creative.com/products/category.asp?category=189&maincategory=10)

Optical Digital I/O Card II
A complete digital input and output solution with both coaxial and optical S/PDIF connections, MIDI In and Out and more. Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 and Audigy users are advised not to install the CD included with this product.

It just doesn't look like the Audigy 2 (not Platinum) has an optical connector. A conversion box to go from optical to electrical will cost about as much (if not more) than that optical connector thing above. Of course, I'd try to find it cheaper elsewhere first.

Took 5 "interactions" with their tech department to get my Live! 5.1 able to send out a 5.1 signal again. Their suggestion was to reinstall the card. 4 times.
Didn't work.
What did? Well, finally the last guy says "raise your desktop resolution to as high a setting as your monitor can support and maybe you'll be able to find the 5.1 toggle switch."
So, I bump the resolution slider up about 3 notches, and there's my 5.1 toggle, way off screen, where it stayed even after uninstalling the drivers, totally wiping the system clean in both registry and folders of all driver traces, as directed to by Creative. The simplest solution presented on the 5th try. Woo. Hoo. Well, at least I could watch DVD's again in full surround.

That adapter will only work if the connection on the Audigy is optical, which I don't think it is.

Yeah, it is. I checked the specifications page on the Creative Audigy 2 site and the digital output mini plug on the Audigy 2 is:
Digital Out for 5.1 support (6-channel SPDIF Output)

Optical refers to the transmission medium (optical cable versus coaxial, for example), while SPDIF refers to the transmission format (or protocol). Basically, anything made for Dolby digital that has a digital input will expect the data as a SPDIF digital signal. I double-checked the specifications of those Yamaha speakers listed below, and they have SPDIF digital inputs, so yeah, an adapter will work.

Another solution would be to buy the external 5.25" connector, which has the rectangular optical plug on it.

Anyone know how to get the Audigy 2 (not platinum) connector to hook up to a digital optical in?

You're talking about the slim, rectangular connector? You need an adapter to convert it to a mini plug (like all the other plugs on the Audigy 2) and then plug the mini into the first hole, which is the digital input, on the Audigy 2. The mini plugs are generally used for portable devices like a discman, but I guess the Creative people used it in order to fit more plugs on the back.

Anyway, I think you can find what you need on this page:
http://www.satelliteservicecenter.com/cables/digital_cable/index_digital_cable.htm

I bet you can find what you need at your local Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, or maybe even a Best Buy, depending on what you have in your area.

Just a thought - does the Audigy 2 actually provide an optical digital connector? I thought it only provided the co-ax type? If that's the case, then you'll need to buy some sort of adaptor... where the hell you'll get one, I don't know.

I hope that helps - or at least reassures you that you're not brain-damaged

I must be brain-damaged, because I just can't get my Audigy 2 hooked up to my Yamaha TSS-1 speakers. So it's sitting on a table, while a much cheaper Hercules 7.1 card hooked up via digital optical works fine.

Anyone know how to get the Audigy 2 (not platinum) connector to hook up to a digital optical in?
