IGI 2: Covert Strike MP Beta

A multiplayer beta version of IGI 2: Covert Strike is now available, offering a sample of Innerloop's upcoming stealthy shooter sequel. "This public Multiplayer Beta Test features the 'Timberland' map and calls for stealth and weapon skills. In Timberland, the IGI operatives’ aim is to sabotage an old mineral plant that the Conspiracy is using as a cover to extract uranium for covert weapons manufacturing." The 117 MB file can be downloaded from publisher Codemasters, or from one of the mirrors on Ferrago.co.uk, FileShack (registration required), Fragland, Gamer's Hell, or Tiscali Games.

Let me just take this time to tell you guys... I hate multiplayer only demos. It offers no practice, no learning, no nothing, NOT EVEN BOTS! It just plops you down in front of a bunch of internet wangs and says GO!

Lame... so very lame. God forbid you don't have broadband. How fun it is to walk around an empty level wishing the game came with one fricken bot! What's the stat for online play for most games? Something like 85-90% of all gamers play only the single player game.

BULLSHIT

90% of Those 'gamers' are 5-10 year olds , and the rest are idiots that think the 'net' is some government project and refuse to get inet access.

I wouldn't want to meet anyone that (in these days) would still sit around and play with himself against a bunch of scripted idiot computer characters.

Actually most of the players in that catagory are older than 12 and don't feel like dealing with net-diarrhea like yours.

Your statement sounds pretty snobbish and arrogant. Thanks for giving praise to the worthy SP games out there.

I've read some comments and here's my judgemental opinion...

Kids shouldn't be allowed to mix with adults as they are obviously too immature to say something "adult" as it were. In fact, it's those egotistical driven people in 'real life' that come into this online forum and bring this with them and ruin's everyones day essentially with their stupid comments that attempt to maintain their ego's.

Thats my 2 cence worth, tell me if you disagree or agree and remember, only tell me if you give some justification behind your answer.

If cost isn't too much of an issue, is there any way you can swap that card out of there for something better.

Matrox needs to lead, follow, or get out of the way. I have yet to see something as good as ATI or nVidia coming from Matrox. Just my personal opinion.

In fact, the first Matrox card I ever bought supposedly for 3D gaming was the Mystique (spelling?), and it didn't even support OpenGL at the time. (It was returned to the store within 3 days after purchasing it.)

As I recall the G400 Max was a good card. It came out around '99 if remember correctly.

the matrox parhellia is a very good card, not as fast as the other 2 but the visual quality is the best

I downloaded it. I think it is a lot of fun. I play most if not all online multiplayer FPS. The first IGI was a lot of fun, and it looks like this one will be even better. It seems like the gameplay is going to require that MP is done in TEAM strategy instead of Rambo style gameplay.

Someone posted a comment about some bogus statistic of single player games and their players....bla bla bla. Why are consoles going to multiplayer? Why is SOCOM for ps2 the top selling game? Why is almost every companies focus on the multiplayer aspect?

Before you go throwing out Bob's Gaming Statistics, go do some reading and research.

Oh, and download this Test, it is a lot of fun.

Aye. IGI 2 is probably best enjoyed with a group of friends who can manage teamplay. Seems like people playing on various random servers forget or ignore the important team aspect of the game, and rather charge in on their own, kill teammates, or worse yet; save up enough money to buy the Barrett then goes to snipe in a faraway hillside.

btw; using your satellite map is crucial regarding spotting enemies, especially snipers. Nothing is more delightful than finding a sniper on the map, finding a route to him, then blast away at his back with whatever is at disposal

I gave this game a fair shot. I never played IGI 1.

The player models are pretty.

But the architecture and outdoor environment is very boxy and ugly. Looks very dated.

The biggest problem with the game is the player movement speed. It is way way too fast. Everyone is running around and strafing at quake 1 speeds.

I have to agree. I played IGI 1, and it's pretty fun for the most part, minus the lack of save games and multiplayer.

This "beta" seems to be a step backward from where the original was. The graphics, models, and animation seem about the same, but the gameplay for a "stealthy" shooter is completely out of whack. Who needs to sneak around when you can run at 30 mph while strafing and firing at the same time?

Some good ideas with it (like paying for early respawn) but it seems like it needs a little more time in the oven.
