Black Hawk Down SP Demo

A single-player demo for Delta Force: Black Hawk Down has made its way onto the internet after being released on the cover-mount CD of a gaming magazine (thanks Tim Tibbetts). Apparently an updated demo that addresses some shortcomings in this one and adds the multiplayer component from the previously released demo of NovaLogic's upcoming DF game is in the works for a release in a few weeks, but in the meantime, no objections are being raised to the distribution of this demo, which can be found on 3D Gamers, FileShack (registration required), and Worthplaying.

I got ICQed this demo last week and had a crack at it. Seems the AI programming in the Delta Force series hasn't improved much....the bad guys still stand around and wait for you to shoot them - no rolling, taking cover, or any other evidence of self-preservation instincts. Your fellow team comrades seem to have about as much tactical sense as a headless chicken...

well, all I can say at the moment is.... if Nova continues to make statements like " this game will be a benchmark for the genre", and "because we at nVidia, and Nova are working close together on BHD, players can expect a flawless experience in BHD".... I really hope that we haven`t actually seen anything close to final release code. :0) If they wanna hang their weenies out in the wind.... they had better have an awesome game waiting for us.

Sadly, this looked sweet , but it seems like the same engine from before. Graphics are fair, nothing spectacular, AI still stinks and the game got choppy on a 1.8 Pentium, GeForce 4 with 512 megs of ram when there was a about 6 people in my sight, some hostile, some team. Frankly, I dont see any improvement here over previous games, something I expected if they wanted my money again. I wont be picking this up. Ill be honest and say I only played it for about 10 minutes and uninstalled.

Anyone know if this is actually the same Delta Force engine that was outdated a couple games back?

This is an unadulterated piece of shit. Laggy, poor graphics, idiotic AI. It's junk even for an arcade shooter. What a disappointment. I'll save my money for Raven Shield and Unreal 2. I loved the book and the movie, but, this is disgraceful.

I have a P4 2.53GHz with a GF4 Ti4200 and 512MB RAM....and the game slowed to a CRAWL when I was inside buildings....between 1 and 10 frames per second. Horrible.

I think it's a modified version of the one they used in Commanche 4.

Could be mistaken, though.

I stopped buying Novalogic games after the first disappointing Delta Force game. Thou my friend did send me the second POS as a gift.

The voxel engine will choke any PC... probably even Big Blue from a few years back.

I still find it amazing that the series has gone on to produce so many mediocre sequels and now this...for the love of God, just license a good engine. Unreal.. Quake... even Lithtech would blow this crappy engine away. I know they wanted large outdoor areas but if it looks like crap and will choke the latest CPUs, who's going to play it?

this demo now has the distinction of being the fastest deleted demo on my computer.

I played it for four miserable minutes and it sucked wang.

Yep, it was pretty bad. I didn't run into many slow downs.

Now the AI was funny as hell. We come in for a landing into a cleared compound, my teammates are still shooting in all directions. One of my teammates stood infront of an open window with bullets flying out, after a few seconds he tosses the flash bang. They all rush in and gunfire ensues. After about a minute of gunfire I waltz in to find them still shooting each other from 2 feet away. And no one is dying from all those emptied clips up close. So I pop the militia guys and they finally go down. And then it happens again in the alleyway. Long battles a few feet away until I shoot them. I swear the AI gets weirder as the franchise moves along.

The 50cal part is funny as well. Someone's been playing too much Beachhead 2000.

Sorry Novalogic, I won't be burned a third time. I was actually hoping this one would change my opinion of your games. Thanks for saving me $50 though.

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev

Paranoid - this aint the Voxel engine, this is the same version of engine that was used for Commanche 4 (and Land Warrior?) its all polys believe it or not!.

Wasn't that impressed with this, especially when I picked up a floaty health pack in the compound (its the health pack I didn't like, not the floaty part) thought that this was going to be a Real World type affair. I'll stick with Raven Shield for now.

Thought it was better than Conflict Desert Storm though - I do notice however, that an updated version of *this* demo is due out soon that fixes some shortcomings of this demo so it may get better.

I've just played Land Warrior, and was quite annoyed with the AI. One of those cases where at some points it's incredible, other times plain stupid. The enemies would either shoot me from 400 yards away with a freaking MP5, or they'd stand there 100 yards away in a group of 6 while I sniped them one by one with a loudass sniper rifle. What's with that?

So... if they've not improved it any I doubt I'll be looking into this.

What is with this single mission crap that all the games are putting out latly? hell i miss the days of quake and doom where you got an entire quarter of the game... 1 mission is no where near enough to decide if the game is worth getting.

last but not least the game still has some serious bugs going on.. fix your movement code please! for some reason it just doesnt feel like my movement is natural.

overall it looks like it could be a blast if it lets you play co-op with your friends in single player. that could be about the only thing that saves this game.

We are not complaining about a free demo, if you read the posts. What we are complaining about is the company AGAIN making a mediocre game on the same old outdated engine while AGAIN claiming it is going to be cutting edge. What were mad about is many of us fell for this already, many of us paid 50 bucks more then once to find out we were lied to.

In closing, we are saying let the buyer beware. If you loved the previous Dleta Force: Land Warrior game, youll like this, otherwise, be forewarned. This should be a budget title, not a full fledged 50 dollar release.

Hope that clarifies it some

This is a demo. NOT FULLY FINISHED YET! means its not finished.
Saying that this is the same engine they used is earlier games explains to me the viewing capability of the whiner.
I played the demo and i say it rocked.. sorry guys i've i can't make up a compliant ;-)

Sorry to burst your bubble joen51. But I've played tons of demos and tons of games for the last 10 years, and here is my conclusion.

9/10 times when they say this isn't the final look/feel of the the game because it's just a beta or a demo... it ends up being the same when it comes out. It's deadlines vs gameplay, and since deadlines are usually the priority of the "higher-ups"... that's what takes precedence.

You are fooling yourself if you tink Black Hawk will be any better when released.

And why shouldn't the public get mad if the GFX aren't state-of-the-art?

I'm still on a p3 700 and an old GF2 gts for that very reason. No games out now need much higher, and those that do at the moment are just bloated peices of garbage that aren't worth my time.

Keeping my fingers crossed for doom3.
