"Uhm... You do know that you can play Deus Ex online, right? They released a patch a bit after the games' release..."

Yeah I was talking about a massively multiplayer version, a MMORPG version

Nice interview. He made some interesting comments on consoles, I've been looking to pick up a 'Cube recently, just so I can play something different.

"Well not sure about Valve *coughSIERRAcough* but 3DRealms did a pretty good job with the duke lineup of games so far and Max Payne was a pretty good game (Kung Fu Mod folks, if ya don't have it go download it.. WOOT)."

Yeah, they did a good job helping people kiss their ass even more.

You'll have an online version of Deus Ex (OOOooooOOoOOOOOOoooh) out before Valve ever produces anything except crap columns on where THEY think the gaming industry is headed

Uhm... You do know that you can play Deus Ex online, right? They released a patch a bit after the games' release...

Which version are you looking for? A quick search and Chips & Bits reveals a number of entries, mostly in stock (Mac edition is not available) and priced $14.95 or less:

http://www.chipsbits.com/cgi-bin/order.cbi_home?client=15597&source=10678&page=catalogs/home.html&search=name

Just do a search for the game at the URL listed above and you can see for yourself (it is not convenient to list direct links). On top of that, Chips&Bits is much more mainstream than some of the other places that focus more on classic and/or lesser known titles.

Glad that the week is almost over,
Ray

Well not sure about Valve *coughSIERRAcough* but 3DRealms did a pretty good job with the duke lineup of games so far and Max Payne was a pretty good game (Kung Fu Mod folks, if ya don't have it go download it.. WOOT).

Besides Warren the only other Game Designers I hold any sort of respect for is the Total Annihilation/Dungeon Siege guy, and Peter "Black and White" Mouly... um however you pronouce it, the Folks at Bioware, Red Storm Entertainmen (DAMMIT Guys we still want Vanguard!), Chris Taylor from the Roller Coaster Tycoon games, (I think that's the same name for the TA/DS game), Mucky Foot Team. Will Wright, Raven Software (muhaa I cut off your head with mah saber!), The Morrowind Team, Rockstar Games (Where the hell is Vice City for the PC? ), Larry Holand and a few other's i can't remember at this time.
Add American McGee to that too

But I agree that I enjoy Always enjoy interviews with Warren as I think he's the "Wise Man" of the Gaming Industry.

Planescape Torment? Dec 27, 2002, 01:28

What does Warren Spector have to do with Planescape Torment??

Warren Spector quite likely is the LAST of the awesome game designers out there. All the others have, by now, produced a big floating pile of steaming poo, but Warren is still batting 1.000 in my book.

"what would constitute his dream game".

Hell I don't know, but I'd buy it and play it without hesitation. All it would need to say is "Warren Spector presents" on the box

Hmmm..
"And any year that offers the prospect of new games from Valve promises to be a good one for computer gaming. Come on, Valve - I wanna play Half Life 2! "

Heck, EVERY year offers that prospect, it's just a shame that it's never MORE than a prospect. Warren, don't fall for the hype. You'll have an online version of Deus Ex (OOOooooOOoOOOOOOoooh) out before Valve ever produces anything except crap columns on where THEY think the gaming industry is headed, and more vaporware talk about TF2 or whatever they whisper they are working on.
Valve & 3DRealms seem to be in a struggle to see who can blow the biggest smoke bubble.

Simply put, Warren is a god in my book.

Hoping nin will make some room so that I, too, can chant for System Shock 3 :D,

Warren has got to be the coolest designer is the world. The guy ought to teach a class...

Yep, the industry could definitely use more people like him. No matter how many interviews I read, the stuff Warren says always sounds strangely *right*. That's a guy with some great insights.
