On PC Halo

There's some Halo: Combat Evolved for PC news on GameSpot with a status report on the PC version of the Xbox shooter. The article recounts the history of this project as a PC/Mac project that was assimilated into an Xbox project upcoming Microsoft's acquisition of Bungie, how Gearbox happened to become involved in the PC port, some of the technical hurdles they have vied with, what parts of the "about 40% done" project they have completed, plans to add next-gen graphics card and internet support, and more.

Is it just me? This looks kind of weak. Please no flames. I just was hoping for a little something more. It looks pretty dull. I can remember my jawing hitting the floor when I saw the first screens of this in pc gamer ages ago. I purposefully avoided the xbox version as I felt like it was somehow "dirtied" after becoming an xbox exclusive. I guess this is truly a port, which means it will ultimately suffer on the pc. Damn the bad luck. Oh well, Unreal 2 will be out soon. (shining star on the horizon) -- maybe

Mmm, I'm interested. The last console I owned was an SNES (and that was quite a while ago ^_^) and never having touched an XBOX, Halo is still new for me. I'd be willing to try it out if they put out a demo around the release time. Personally, I'm not going to knock it before it's even released on the PC: it might be a very good PC game in the end.

I say screw Bungie! They screwed all of us PC gamers that supported them while they developed Halo. Halo was to be a PC title that I personally waited 2 years for and they sold us all out at the last minute to Microsoft. SCREW BUNGIE!!!

I wwas looking forward to this...a couple of years back. Now it's just old news, not interesting anymore. I tried to avoid all the spoilers too, but I got the ending shoved down my throat anyway...hell, I never even played the game when it came out, because I was sure it was going to be released soon after for the pc.
Plus of course now I feel screwed over for a marketing stunt by the boys at M$.

Now I just couldn't care less. It's like half-life (the original, no mods) being released for the ps2, or xbox. Big wow.

Ok first of all as many of you said I agree that this port of the game has taken way too long from the control of Microsofts hands. I know they wanted it to be an exclusive so all us Mac and PC owners would buy one (and I almost broke down to get one) but I thought for sure it would of been out soon after as it was originally supposed to come out on the PC.

So my next question is why is it NOW taking them so long to release it on the PC? Now only 40% done sounds very weird to me as like I mentioned above that they should of had a lot more done unless if the scraped all the old code (read: deleted).

I was really looking forward to this game but now after 2 years and way cooler looking games that are out or coming out I don't think I will be buying this game unless if they sell it really cheap!

This was originally to come out on the Mac and then it was the PC and then it was the Xbox. Microsoft can kiss my ass! I'm sure the game will still be good but with so many better games coming out in 2003. Who gives a shit?

Unreal2
Doom3
Command & Conquer: Generals

The list goes on...

Oh well, I've red reports of the story being changed way back when M$ bought them up and so made the story and gameplay easier and simpler to fit the damn console crowd, o well...in general all of console ports suck, they just dont feel right when you play them on PC as I said they look simpler and more straight forward, naive games so bleh there's alot of good and more PC'ish titles coming out in 03.

Words can't express how lame Halo MSbox is when compared to what it was shaping up to be.

Fuck! When will these damn console monkey's realize that they'll sell a ton more games and make their FPS console games 100x better by simply adding mouse and KB support?!?

A crapy 2 year old port from a company of questionable talent is the worst kind of lip service. Excuse me Gearbox, the James Bond: Nightfire port was almost as bad as Halo PC will most likely be : (

Sorry to be so angry. I've never been more disappointed than when MS bought Bungie and killed what could have been the next great game.

It’s really sad too, when I think about it. As the article mentions, Halo for the Xbox went on to be a huge selling success. Many people love Halo on the Xbox and think it’s a good game. If only they could play it as how it was going to turn out, then they’d know what a sad, sad thing occurred.

.. back when Halo was in development as a Mac/PC only game. When Halo was supposed to be like Tribes except better. Where you could fly the alien craft, drive the buggy thing, or the airship.

Back when Halo was to be mainly a multi-player game(first)and single-player second. Before I hated Bungie... before MS bit into the soft flesh of the neck like a Vampire and drained the life blood out of Bungie's PC following.

What pissed me off even worse then Bungie changing the game and then going X-box only was being told a PC port would still be out soon after.. then it went to we are not sure.. to the utter disregard for the PC followers.

So like #3 said... screw them...

Lots of people are already saying that Splinter Cell actually plays better on Xbox than PC. The controller allows you to do all the "moves" much more easily.
Not to say that I'm going to run right out and buy an Xbox, but I think they're starting to figure out ways to add things to an FPS using the Xbox controller that can't be done as well with a mouse and KB.
Nonetheless, I agree with everyone else that Halo PC should have been here a year ago. The only thing holding it up is M$ marketting trying to sell a few more "exclusive" units.

All I ask... is for someone to come up with a way for me to play my buddy multiplayer Halo with him using his X-box controller, and me using a keyboard and mouse. That way I can once and for all squash all his beliefs that he is a multiplayer god and that I suck at first person shooters.
It would be the schooling to end all schoolings. I predict he'd throw his coffee table out the window after flinging his gamepad against the fireplace, and putting his fist through the TV. Oh how I crave the day

Am I the only one who thought Halo kinda sucked? I tried it out on a friend's Xbox and all I can say is that I was unimpressed and bored with it within 30 minutes of playing.
