There's some Halo: Combat Evolved for PC news on GameSpot with a status report on the PC version of the Xbox shooter. The article recounts the history of this project as a PC/Mac project that was assimilated into an Xbox project upcoming Microsoft's acquisition of Bungie, how Gearbox happened to become involved in the PC port, some of the technical hurdles they have vied with, what parts of the "about 40% done" project they have completed, plans to add next-gen graphics card and internet support, and more.

"no game company is stupid enough to release a game that will only work on brand spankin new 3d cards that come out in conjunction with the game, if they did that they would lose all their customers, i would never buy a new 3d card just to play on specific game,"


Somehow I don't think you're a very big majority though, Z. When UT2003 came out, and the 9700 was released, the forums were rife with people who had upgraded just to see the game run on the latest card.

Ofcourse, releasing a game that will ONLY work on the newest card out would be stupid, but it wouldn't surprise me to simply see ID say "GeforceFX recommended", and then to see tons of people upgrade because of it
