DirecTV DSL Ending

The DirecTV DSL Website has news that this broadband internet service will be ending some time after the next 30 days (thanks Joshua Noble). Saying the service "can no longer stand as an independent business" due to "the dramatic change in the capital markets and the significant shift in the telecom operating environment," they report they "are working with our last-mile carriers to determine alternatives for your broadband service." Update: This story originally mistakenly describe this as an end to their satellite broadband service, which is incorrect.

Is that meant as a correction? That is what the story says in the first place: "...news that this satellite broadband internet service will be ending..."

A common misconception, but basically Directvdsl, was just just that, DSL. There's was no wireless connections, and no latency that a normal DSL user wouldn't have.

DirectTV bought telocity (a dsl provider) and ran them into the ground. Too bad, $49 for a static IP and super reliable speeds. Now I have to becomee another SBC whore.

What I am inferring from the news is that only the broadband service is stopping, not the satellite television service.

Is it a coincidence that I just graduated college, am leaving town, and will not be requiring the DirectTV DSL service anymore?

I happen to work for DirecTV and I can tell you that ONLY the DSL service is ending, DirectWay (the satellite broadband service) will continue to be available.

"Even more of" a correction is that DirecTV DSL did NOT go over satellite. So it _was_ perfectly viable for gamers..

Everyone I know who has Sat. Net connection hates it, and only uses it cause it's either cheap or the only thing better then dialup where they live.

Static IP, true....and not too expensive. However, have you ever tried calling their tech support? I have literally sat on hold for OVER an hour and a half waiting to speak to a human. Thats just pathetic, and you could generally find that quality of service at any time of day or night.

Their billing people have their heads up their butts and deep. I have a $1400 charge off on my credit report from these assholes....they said I owed them for 10 months of service that I never paid (even though the only way they will bill you is your credit card or bank card so they ALWAYS get their money before your months service). Funnier still, these alleged 10 months of service were at a residence I had not lived in for over a year....I was actually in a different state.

Even more amazing is they allowed me to sign up a new account at my new residence and they never made a peep about the $1400 charge off. And when I called them up to find out what was going on with my credit, they needed my name and my name only to look it up...pathetic.

I hope they all go to hell and get those jobs at McDonalds that they ALMOST deserve. I will be dancing on DirecTV DSL's grave....

They actually have you there, Blue.

The Satellite version is apparently Direcway (http://www.direcway.com/), while the regular ol' DSL one is DirecTV DSL - the one that is ending. The story reads as if you're referring to the former, rather than the latter.

I was unable to actually reach the DirecTV site, so this is closest I can find:

I believe that companies should stay with what they know. DirectTV does television well but how could they think about competing in the market with companies that have a founded business plan centered on internet service.

subscriber? Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm sure you will) but there isn't anything to subscribe to, here. I'm sure you mean you have been 'visiting' here for 2 years.

but when blue makes a mistake oh he is allwo0ed to and no one is allowed to correct him?

Of course you are. It's just the way you 'correct' Blue that is quite..erm...offensive. There must have been a much friendlier way to correct him. Respect goes 2 ways
