"From what's been goin round, it sounds like MechAssault is one kick ass game when played online over Live and I haven't seen any plans to bring it to the other consoles"

Yea I have to say that i've played MechAssault a LOT more then any other x-box game I have. There's just something about it that's very addictive. It's got that whole simple yet complex thing going for it. I mean even the single player is damn fun to mess around with.

I think x-box live is what will keep the system in the market for the long run. They are setting up a cheat free online gaming area for people that want it. This is much better then PS2's pay to play for each game. Also sometime in the future x-box will have SWG, and well you will be able to hook people without PC's on MMO's. Maybe not the best thing, but it's a plus.

I don't think they are even planning on make any money of this XBOX, but maybe on the XBOX2 or 3

You're probably right. I think (and apparently Microsoft does, too) that it's more important for them to establish a customer base with the first Xbox rather than make money. Sony did a lot of things right with the PS1 that allowed them to break into the console market, and Sega was on its way out at that point, but I don't think that Microsoft could squeeze its way into the Sony- and Nintendo-dominated market without taking a loss at first.

Besides, this procedure is Microsoft's way.

Oh, I know that they want to sell the hardware at a loss and make the money back on software, but they keep saying that it is "a 20 year business" so I don't think they are even planning on make any money of this XBOX, but maybe on the XBOX2 or 3

I haven't heard much news about the PC release of Halo, has there even been any screenshots released yet?

The Halo single player campaign has ten chapters, you've just completed the third, Truth & Reconciliation.

Halo for the PC is anything but Vaporware at this point. It's officialy being done by Gearbox and adds Internet support.

BTW, does anyone know how long Halo is? I just rescued the captain and have stole the enemy drop ship.

>>>How many copies of Halo have sold compared to GTAIII? Again, I've never owned a console but it seems to me that while Halo was a hit and from what I've seen of it an good game all around, how does it compare sales-wise?

People that are totally non-gamer have heard of GTAIII, I don't think that's true of Halo.<<<

Halo has shipped over 2 million units. With 8 million Xboxes sold, that's remarkable saturation. GTA3 is over the 7 million mark, but there are 50 million PS2s.

GTA3 is available for the PC as well, while Halo for the PC remains vaporware.

If Halo 2 (with Xbox Live support)lives up to the hype, it will be THE game to get, period.

>>> And with Zelda, Fzero, and Mario Kart, I'm suprised the GC isn't selling tons more. Guess it's the kiddy image.

I think that's exactly it. PS2 and Xbox are marketed as hip, edgy, and not just for kids. I'm sure Nintendo would LOVE to have this image, and they're SLOWLY working towards it (Eternal Darkness, RE, Metroid, etc.). But it's a catch 22: Nintendo's new image may fuel sales with the male 17-29 crowd, but may damper sales from parents looking for a "safe" system to buy for the kids.

I've had a cube since last fall and love it. But I think no matter which system you go with, you're always going to miss out on something (unless you buy all three).

GTA3 vs. Halo sales is moot. One system had more than a year more of sales. Comparing sales for a system with 30 million systems sold vs. one with 3 million sold is a huge difference.

I doubt that either GTAs have sold 10x more than Halo.

I bought an Xbox and a Gamecube within a week of each other at the end of November. 10 games for each. Halo is a fun game, and has a good wow factor. Not as fun as GTA3 imo, but still a good game.

Higher sales to system ratio than GTA3.

And exclusives are a huge problem for the Xbox. Lets look at the decent games I have:

Halo-to the PC
Splinter Cell- PC/PS2/GC
MGS2- PS2, PC
Rallisport Challenge- PC
Moto GP- PC

Lets look at the GC
Metroid - None
Luigi (bite me, I liked it) - None
Mario - None
Pikmin - None
Eternal Darkness - None
Resident Evil - None (unless you count PS1)

I run a P4 2.4ghz with a Ti4600, and IMO, the games look better on it. I got a steal on an Xbox, $105 with the 2 games (and a bit of deal working).

And with Zelda, Fzero, and Mario Kart, I'm suprised the GC isn't selling tons more. Guess it's the kiddy image.

I believe that killer exclusive game is called Halo.

How many copies of Halo have sold compared to GTAIII? Again, I've never owned a console but it seems to me that while Halo was a hit and from what I've seen of it an good game all around, how does it compare sales-wise?

its obvious you didn't even read the first two paragraphs of the article...

IRT #3,4
From what's been goin round, it sounds like MechAssault is one kick ass game when played online over Live and I haven't seen any plans to bring it to the other consoles

also, what the X-Box really has going for it, and people are slowly starting to realize this, is that the online gameplay is cheat-free. this is a godsend for some.

think I'm a fanboi? I don't own an X-Box... yet.

I believe that killer exclusive game is called Halo. My last console before Xbox was an Intellivision.

So they lose money on the hardware, but if you walk out of the store with extra games, it offsets that.

Loose money selling the razor, make it back on sales of razor blades? I guess.

What Bill and Co. need is a killer exclusive game. If they could spend enough money to lock up something like GTAIII then they'd be set.

I've never bought a console. If I was going to get one right now it would have to be a PS2, they have the exclusive edge on too many games to consider anything else.

I certainly wouldn't count MS out tho. It takes them roughly 3 releases to get it right. They'll be in command of the console market in 4 more years with the release of the Xbox cubed.

Hardware is sold at a loss. Software is not. That's where the money is. So they lose money on the hardware, but if you walk out of the store with extra games, it offsets that. And once you buy the hardware, there's a good chance you'll buy additional software down the road.

Now weather XBoxs' software sales make more money that what they lose on hardware sales is another question that they won't know for another 3-6 months...

Remember those? If selling Xboxs for 3 months lost them $177M, then how is selling more of them before Christmas going to help? Selling more of something that has a negitive profit margin doesn't make you money, dumbass.
