TRIBES 3 Tidbits?

A story on TribalWar.com recapping an unlinked post on their forums from Sierra's Alex “Marweas” Rodberg has vague word on plans for a continuation of Dynamix/Sierra's TRIBES online shooter series, saying: "I'm confident in the team we have assembled for this daunting task. I can't wait to introduce you to them so we can get fans involved in the process as early as possible. When? When we make the official announcement, sometime next year." Meanwhile, they also link to another post from Marweas with a little poem (no really) about plans for the game, culminating with the following:
No more a question - may or might
The next Tribes game got a green light.

The bad thing is, Tribes 1 is a great game, so T2 had to do better. There was so many bugs when it came out, hardware problems, and with so many ati/voodoo users it really was a bad experience.

But, Tribes2 is now mature enough, and hardware support is rather good. I couldnt play when it came out on my voodoo5/800mhz pc, but now on my 2ghz, ati9700, the game is simply awesome. Too bad I had to wait 2 years to play as it was intended.

Glad I dug it out last week, and downloaded the new 110 meg update.

But I noticed, sierra closed the forums, and I had to grab PJ script pack to finalize the gameplay. Not as many servers are up also.

I hope they dont make the same mistake with Tribes3, they should take the engine and modify it, not recreate the entire thing from scratch again. I will be pissed if I get burnt again by serria, and thier treatment of customers and developers.

The 'real' frederickson was a professional. This person is a rank amatuer, a poser.

Which was exactly my point, Snappy. And I am glad someone else shares my view that fredrickson (eh, the _real_ one) was pretty fun to have arround in a derranged sort of way. Check him out, as he's sure to become part of the mythos of this website. Should do an A&E biography...

And since I'm one for staying on topic:

Pretty much sums it up for a lot of people...

I see you've been doing your research; you're becoming much more like the fredrickson we knew and loathed.

I think you are mistaken. The 'real' frederickson was a professional. This person is a rank amatuer, a poser.

Duh... Sierra doesn't develope games anymore, they are a publisher.

Not entirely true. Yes, Sierra does publish more games than they develop, but they still have at least one internal development team (SWAT: Urban Justice). The Hoyle games used to be done in-house, but I'm not sure if they still are.

The next Tribes game won't be developed directly by Sierra, but done under their supervision by a third party developer, much the way that 2015 did MoH for EA and Raven did JK2 for LucasArts.

Duh... Sierra doesn't develope games anymore, they are a publisher. The have develepers that make games for them such as Valve, and the aforemenchened ill-fated Dynamix.

however I fear that when those fucking Sierra BASTARDS fired the entire DevTeam a week after they completed Tribes2, that this great notion for a game died with the termination of the team

Actually, it was Vivendi that closed down Dynamix and it happened four months after Tribes 2 shipped. Sierra had even more people laid off than worked at Dynamix.

What I don't understand at all, is that Sierra offically dropped support and future updates for Tribes II (correct me if I am mistaken)

You're mistaken. Sierra has never dropped support for T2, although it took a lot of internal lobbying to get the last patch out (there was a gap of about a year between patches). GarageGames, which has several key ex-Dynamix people, did the work on the last patch.

The patched version of T2, with about 30 new maps, the Classic mod and Team Rabbit 2 added, has been re-released in jewel case format for about $10.

The next Tribes game won't be developed directly by Sierra, but done under their supervision by a third party developer, much the way that 2015 did MoH for EA and Raven did JK2 for LucasArts.

Bollox am I going to buy it after what those wankers did to Dynamix.
I loved Tribes, grew quite fond of Tribes 2 (still play it occasionly :D).
Besides, I thought all Sierra did now was keep re-releasing half life.
How the bloody hell are they supposed to do a new game?!?!

What I don't understand at all, is that Sierra offically dropped support and future updates for Tribes II (correct me if I am mistaken). Isn't some rogue dev. team keeping T2 updates going at the moment? I really don't see how Sierra can release T2, drop support of the game because of it's numerous bugs and budget cuts, and then leak word that there is future work on Tribes 3. I'll agree with #3 I believe, this is seriously putting a nail in their own coffin.

When they show the first screenshot of Tribes 3 you won't care about Halo anymore. Hell, at this point I hardly do myself. Halo, an overated game due to graphic visuals. A game that was one and a half years too late in coming to the pc. And it's still not here. Im waiting forward to Planetside.

That would be sweet if they mixed hercs with the tribes personal armor suits! I think it'd be really hard to pull off well, however, especially with the vehicles available to the light armor.

I hope they steer more towards the Tribes 1 feel for the third installment. There was something "off" about the overall feel of Tribes 2--not as light-hearted Tribes 1. For example, I hope they put back the Tribes 1 voice communication sayings. Those were the best voices EVER!

Well, for that matter Tribes 1 was the best game ever.

"Dammit!" "The enemy has our shazbot!" "Incoming dance!" "Get the enemy dance!" lol... love it.

Cool. It sucks that more people didn't get to experience Tribes 2 because it was an amazing game when it worked right. Hopefully this next one will be released when it's ready and not the equivalent of a beta product (and hopefully it will be as much fun as T2 was/is).

There are a couple of things that scare me with this annoucement.

First off being Sierra doesn't make games anymore, they just repackage Half Life and put it in a box, so how good is this game going to be over the previous version?

Secondly, speaking of the previous version, has/had alot of problems scince release namely the team being pretty much packed up and shipped off shortly after the games release, And by the time they show the first screen shot of it, Halo for the PC will be out, which has alot better elements.

Thirdly, the game itself had some issues the last time I played it and I haven't played it in awhile but as far as Tribes 1 is concerned it was great, T2 was ehh... ok but nothing spectacular, and now they are going to do a 3rd one with all the problem surrounding T2 and Sierra?

Fourth, where is Team Fortress 2?

Nuff said Time will tell.

WAY back, when the original Dev team was working on T1 and T2, it was speculated that Tribes 3 might be some kind of combined game which used the HERCS from the Starsiege Line of games and the powered armor from the Tribes series. So, there would be people running around in mechs, and ALSO, there would be people running around in Armor at the same time. This idea still sounds fucking amazing, and I would love to see it put to action, however I fear that when those fucking Sierra BASTARDS fired the entire DevTeam a week after they completed Tribes2, that this great notion for a game died with the termination of the team. This new team, whom I herby dub "The Replacements," doubtfully have the necessary experience to truely produce a great Tribes sequel.

I guess we'll have to wait for the offical press release before we can really judge this new team.

This is awsome...I (unfortunately) passed on T1, but T2 is still my favorite multiplayer game. It is incredible the sheer scale of the game, as well as the incredible depth that it offers. It is great to see an FPS break out of the mold.

I can't wait for the official announcement now...

I loved T1, and I'll tell you what, after many tries they really got T2 right after the last patch. The framerate difference was huge. Too bad it took so long, I always loved the gameplay but was one of the unfortunate ones who had loads of technical problems with the game.
