Playboy Game Unveiled

ARUSH Entertainment announces that production is underway on a game that sounds like it could be titled "Playboy Tycoon" (of course, you'll only play it for the articles). Here's the deal:
The first Playboy- branded game, which will be playable on multiple platforms including PC, Sony PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Xbox consoles, is targeted to be in stores in 2004.

The game, which is based on the world-builder simulation genre of video games, will allow players to walk in the slippers of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, establishing and building the Playboy empire and living the ultimate Playboy lifestyle.

Hey Larry:

Have you ever seen playboy's website, videos, or magazines? It's all porn. Softcore maybe, but porn nonetheless. I have seen the members section of the playboy website, and you can go there and see some very clear pics of shaved pink bits (if you don't know, think about if for a few moments). I can't remember the last time I saw a rated R (or even NC17) movie featuring women legs spread, showing shaved genitalia. If you haven’t seen the magazine in the past several years, Playboy is getting more and more free with what they will show. They like to paint it as something less, but it's still porn. Some people are so use to seeing hardcore porn online these days that they see something like Playboy, which seems tame by comparison, and think it's somehow "Rated R".

I guess if you think it would be fun to imagine you are some porn (yes, it's porn whether you like it or not) industry tycoon, have at it. I could care less what you do. I may still laugh at you and call you a pathetic loaner, but I wouldn't try to stop it from being made or you from playing it.

He cut the possum's face off then cut around the eye socket. In the center of the belt buckle, where the possum's eye would be, he has placed a small piece of wood from his old '52 Ford's home made railroad tie bumper. Damn, he misses that truck.

Playboy *is* porn.

It's just softcore *by today's standards*.

Which are slipping further and further, given some of the hideous pornography that people are producing on the 'net these days.

*shudder*

LOL - maybe it will ship with free tissues like Lula Sexy Empire

Personally, a big motivation for me to buy the coaster would be if it turned into a pizza and 6 pack after playing

Just what I really needed, w00t! Yet another coaster for my morning coffee... excellent, straight off to find out where I can pre-order.

Not.

Although its interesting to see how they define mainstream - can't see this being one for the kids or the ladies - just one for the guys. I guess the 18-to-whatever y/o male who gets kicks outta computer p0rn, er sorry I mean worldbuilder game types (yeah, right) is gonna just lurve this masterpiece.

No Playboy product worth its salt wouldn't have at least some (read: a ton) of flesh adorning every available angle, so I'm guessing thats going to be their biggest selling point, and NOT any alleged gameplay (since they have no real idea what thats going to be yet its hard to pass comment)

"Playboy is classy, as this game will be."

Playboy's low-tone is why it is near bankruptcy. Classy? Yet they have hardcore on the television station. Oooookay...

If it's going to be a sex game, it might as well be about sex, using the latest technologies. Who didn't think that on seeing the GeForceFX previews? Puhleez. If it's not a person's cup of tea, then he/she doesn't have to play it.

There's nothing "classy" about Playboy.

You ever play Leisure Suit Larry? Pretty funny series, though not exactly A+ material. And guess what? ALL about sex.

Not to mention that the attraction of games is as widely varied as the attraction of film: You see some movies, say Bowling For Columbine, to get your thoughts moving. Others you see for the sheer style (Femme Fatale, maybe), or even just because you want to see a predictable genre flick (any one of the recent action/comedy/romantic comedy releases). Similarly, not all games have the same draws. I'd hardly call the draw of a story-driven game like Grim Fandango or Baldur's Gate 'mastering the system'.

It's not that sex has no place in games, it's just that publishers these days are too juvenile to incorporate sex into a game without making a huge deal about it. I recall a big brouhaha over Citizen Kabuto, about the Delphi character not wearing a top. Putting the top on didn't exactly detract from gameplay, but neither did having the top off. I, for one, would rather experience the product the way the designers intended it.

Gosh, some of you guys are so holier-than-thou. The concept is unusual, but that doesn't mean the game will suck. There are plenty of ways it could be a good game and plenty of ways it could be bad... the license doesn't make the game.

It'll suck. The nature of p0rn is not one of intellectual achievement. The attraction to most games is the satisfaction of mastering the system of the game itself. Never the two shall meet. Sex being an urge, gaming being journey.

Sure a game can have sexy elements but about sex? Never.... Unless you need to rub one off.

It is not a Porn Industry Hugh Hefner is in. His is an industry that is Rated R. Pornography would be rated X or XX or XXX or however many xxx's they go up to.

I think it could be a great game. I mean I loved simcity, I loved Rollercoaster Tycoon, I loved Transportation Tycoon, I loved the game where you were in the autoindustry building cars (research and development). It is all the same thing really.

If someone has such a huge hard on over the fact that it is built on an industry that has beautiful naked woman. Then they need to get a life.

I think it sounds stupid, but there is no doubtit will sell. I can understand things like Sims, SimCity, Theme Park sims, etc. But a Porn Industry sim? I thank god I am not pathetic enough to think this sounds like a good idea.

Why not just look up PORNOGRAPHY on the internet if you want to see naked women?

You're answering your own question. If you're looking for porn, you'll search the internet for porn. If you want to play one of those "tycoon"-style simulation games, you'll play this game.

And further...
I don't see how the idea of running a playboy empire would be fun at all!

And I don't see how the Sims is fun at all, but for some reason it has sold 800 billion copies. But that doesn't mean this playboy game will have no substance. All the development team did today was announce that they aquired the license for a video game. They don't know anything about the gameplay, and, therefore, either do you.

Can you honestly imagine yourself double-clicking on the playboy game icon on your desktop and playing this game for any length of time seriously?! Why not just look up PORNOGRAPHY on the internet if you want to see naked women? I don't see how the idea of running a playboy empire would be fun at all! Is this what computer gaming has come to? All image and no substance?

I say it's the people who impulse buy shitty games that give companies the impression that this is what gamers want...*sigh*
