MOO3 Delayed, Q&A

The Master of Orion III Q&A on GameSpot talks with Constantine Hantzopoulos about Quicksilver's imminent 4X space strategy sequel. Topics include how close they are to going gold, that they will miss their projected December 4 release date, whether their release date will slip past the holiday season ("I wouldn't say that. We just have a few more weeks of regression testing ahead of us"), recent changes to their game design, the interface, graphics, combat, and more. All this is illustrated by a mere 167 screenshots. On a related note, there's a Saurian Species update on the Master of Orion III Website (thanks Loadedinc) as part of their Excerpts from the Race Bible series.

Not only that, but think about it.... Dec 4th is only a week away...If you postponed a project 6 months ago, submitted a new schedule, and waited seven days before delivery to say it wasn't ready, you'd be out of a job.

At least you would be politically finished.

I dunno, I agree with others on this board: when you nail down a specific release date(December 4th is pretty specific), you should have things pretty worked out. It's not the time or place to start implementing recent changes to their game design, the interface, graphics, combat, and more.

I don't develop games, but i do develop systems applications and I'd be flayed alive if I announced that I was making fundamental changes this late in a project. The only excuse I can think of is that someone came to the realization that something was seriously flawed and did what was necessary to fix it(which, while painful, is the right course of action)

Making MOO3 should not be rocket science, and they have had alot of folks on this for quite a long time.

I agree, I would rather have a delayed (and hopefully better) game. What annoys is that companies announce release dates (sometimes several) and still don't manage to hit any of them and then still ship products that *still* should be delayed, that's what annoys. And yeah, DNF or DNW (W for Whenever) is a totally stupid situation.

Patches and future improvements are part and parcel of PC gaming and I'm not saying no PC game should have to be patched - most of the recent games I've bought had patches out on the same day (or day after release) and whilst I know from first hand experience that everything sometimes cannot be done before you ship your game - some of the issues they are patching are fundamental show stopping bugs that *should* have been caught.

It's not major game fetures they are talking about. They are talking abouting readding or putting in features that they wanted in the releases but had cut for some reason before, but now have time to put them in/need them. Look at almost any game code and you will see features that are like 80% compleate but didn't make it in because of time.

Personaly I'm glad they are delaying it. I wish more companys whould delay products a week or 2 to make sure everything runs better. I can think of at least 5 games in the last year that wanted to make their first ship date and so they had patches avalible on the release date, or even before. THIS is NOT the way to do it. Just delay the game a damn week and make sure the patch is in game/works. Now If they keep delaying a game by months and months, (DNF) you have to start wondering.

still making changes to the game design at this stage ? that isn't very promising....you're supposed to nail features down way before that, oh, hey, I just remembered, they'll just patch it! ;( Better to keep their mouths shut and not say anything really, I mean you'd hope they would have realised some time ago that they were going to slip wouldn't you !?!

was going to be getting this, but think I'll wait and see what ppl say after playing it, if & when it gets released

i was thinking more along the lines of, announce a release date when you are 90% sure its almost complete and ready, not this constant posting, retraction. very frusterating cause i love the series.

Better a good game that needs no patches or little than a buggy as hell POS.
