The Wonderful Website of Oz

The Carbon 6 Website has undergone a redesign, and contained on the project pages are the first concrete details about American McGee's Oz project, where there's word of a publishing deal with Infogrames, who plan to bring the game to market for both the PC and Xbox in 2004. They also have a piece of concept art and a screenshot, quotes from American, as well as word on plans for related toys and expected future announcements of book and movie deals.

You mean they're actually making this game?

I doubt they could even touch upon the creepiness of 'Return
to Oz', tho.

Sure they could, just have the lead actress grow up to be an even creepier Goth.

"Wizard's magic incinerated and laid waste to Munchkin towns. Powerful spells murdered and maimed their inhabitants by the thousands. The Munchkins retaliated by building armies of horrific steam powered war machines."

Nothing brings a smile to my face faster then hearing the words "Munchkin" & "War Machines" used in the same sentence.

I'm interested. I almost got Alice. I enjoyed the demo but I didn't think it would hold my interest through an entire game, plus it was third person. I imagine this'll be third-person too.

Hopefully it'll also be influenced by Gregory Maguire's most excellent novel.

I tried Alice. No go, didn't like the 3rd person view. I did like the footprint thingy tho.

American McGee is like the Disney of games. He takes old stories and translates them into a new medium. Has he ever had success with an original (as if there is such a thing) idea?

If it's coming out in 2004, here's hoping the game ends up looking a bit more realistic than that screenshot. That pic reminds me of Wheel of Time.

Alice was Quake 3 engined. This looks like a creepy / scary type game. Maybe Quake 3 or Doom 3 engined? Guess they paid the bills with a GBA movie tie in game and now it's on to something more artistic... it should be interesting, but I hope it's first person. Very few third person games catch my attention for long.
