Thanks Enforcer, being the author of Poke646 I appreciate your comment, especially since it's almost a year since we released our mod. I must agree with most of you, I'd always favor a thrilling SP experience over a mediocre MP game. In fact the team and I discuss a MP mode of Poke646 (on UT2k3 basis) for quite some time now, but we've always put the project on hold since it just wouldn't transfer the true spirit of our original story.

Hitting the scene with an unique and original MP concept nowadays is almost impossible... but there's always people longing for good SP stories I guess.

Ha ha, HL makes me giggle.

Hey /dev/null have you ever tried the HL converstion from poke 646? This game has the best graphics I've seen for any HL MOD out there.

Have you seen the graphics in natural selection? I know its multiplayer only, but it sure is pretty for a mod for half life.

Btw I dont like playin via Interent at all, but I love to play via lan with my bro's, it's so much funnier to beat your best friends in WC3 etc

I played Half-Life SP all the way through like 6 or 7 times, and I was actively involved in making and releasing the (only?) non-retail SP Total Conversion, Chemical Existence. I did play the Multiplayer game sometimes, but it was never of great interest to me. I mean, no story?

Single Player games rule.

Sometimes people forget that there are still active online communities for single player games that have been out for years, and people are still passionate about them. You only have to look at Looking Glass and Bungie games. Why do people think that a game needs multiplayer to be a success or to enjoy longevity? It's a ridiculous argument.

Besides, does it even matter if you only play a game once, or if it doesn't have a long lived online following? Of course for most SP games, even great ones, eventually the fan sites close and the forums dry up, because after a while there's not much to talk about, but does it mean the game wasn't good, wasn't worthwhile?! The very nature of single player games is different, and the reasons people enjoy them are different...

I have so much to say on this matter, but I really don't want to ramble on and end up with a post no one will read (plus I'm at work)

I usually take my time playing single player games (especially since I only put in about five hours a week of game time). My old room mate would give me hell because with everything else going on, I would spend months(literally) playing through the single player portion of a game, while he would dedicate a weekend to it and be done. The point is though not intentional, I get a lot of mileage out of a SP game. This approach to gaming would probably not appeal to most.

How often do you view your favorite film? Does the fact that you can't really duplicate the surprise\experience of that first viewing diminish the experience? There's a place for single-player games. Half-Life was a great single-player expericence. So was No One Lives Forever and it's sequel.

I know people who still play Max Payne. I would if I hadn't loaned a copy to my friend who never returned it

But multiplayer ain't everything. Really. If your justification was correct then a good portion of console games should never be purchased since they're single player only anyway.

Sometimes a single player game is worth the ride alone when it's "that good". I am disappointed however that Unreal II: The Awakening won't have a multiplayer mode at least for the "citadel-like" WoT mode they're including. But, that won't stop me from enjoying the game...

Another great eye candy came with single player only. Years in the making, hours in the playing.

Those of you who bought Oni and Max Payne as soon as they were released, are you still playing them?
