BF1942 Add-on?

The EBGames.com Website (thanks GameSpyDaily) has details on an unannounced multiplayer add-on for Battlefield 1942 titled "The Road to Rome" that's apparently in the works. Here's a bit from the EB listing, which also includes a batch of 20 screenshots (though the images seem to be broken at the moment):
Though multiplayer experience will be the focus of The Road To Rome, there will be a mode of unique single player action. These levels feature improved artificial intelligence with no scripting, meaning players will get a completely different experience each time.

  • Six new maps from the Sicilian and Italian campaigns including Operation Husky (Sicily), and the battles for Anzio and Monte Cassino.
  • Eight new vehicles including the German BF-110 and British Mosquito fighter bombers.
  • Two new fighting forces including the French legionnaires and Italian forces.
  • Three new hand-held weapons including a rifle grenade launcher, the British Sten SMG and bayonets.
  • Proprietary Refractor 2 engine raises bar for graphics and 3D rendering.
  • Huge multiplayer component supporting up to 64 players that requires teamwork and cooperation from each member in order to achieve victory for the Axis or Allies.
  • Unique single player mode features no scripting, meaning the player gets different experience each time they play.

Fighting forces and French legionnaires in the same sentence? ahahahahaha, what are they gonna do? See how fast they can surrender?

Also, I thought that this game was mostly multiplayer anyways. Does it have a real story to it? Or is it like quake 3, with single player being just you vs the bots?

Here'a an idea..make the original game PLAYABLE before working on an add-on. I realize this flies in the face of tradition, but hey, it would be nice.

I can't wait for this I want it now!

Oblivion, I'm sick of your whining and people like you whining about the game. The game is more than playable (except for the horrible bots but let's not get into that). You obviously need a computer upgrade or a better ISP if you are having problems with the playability. I play on an Athlon 1.33GHz with a Geforce 2 MX and it runs fine at 1024x768 with medium detail and 100% view distance. This is hardly an updated system either.

P.S. Boohoo for you and go to hell.

Yeah I agree Oblivion, I would like confidence that the game is more stable to play before I want to get an add-on. As of right now I would probably NOT buy that cause I am not that happy with the game.

As for the first question....yes it's mostly multiplayer ala Quake 3. But personally I would stay away from single player right now as the AI is very stupid on your team and brainiacs on the enemy team.

Consider it skipped.

"Unique single player mode features no scripting, meaning the player gets different experience each time they play. "

Heh, yeah, which vehicle are they gonna repeatedly hop up and down on this time? Will they precision-laser-guided-strike-bomb me 7 times in a row, or 8?

It's a unique single-player mode, alright. Even the Tron lightcycles were smarter than the BF1942 bots.

If you looked into it the AI will be somewhat improved in the next patch which is due out in a week or two. Anyways, this doesn't really seem like a game that was made for single player. Bots are no fun to play against anyways! In my opinion they are either too smart or too dumb.

And they still claim you can play with 64 players..... what a joke. Finish the damn patch. Companies like EA are really hurting the quality of games lately... and making record profits. Stop feeding the bears.

Who cares about single player when it's one of the best multiplayer games out there? It has a few bugs and some performance issues, but nothing so serious that it's not playable.

I can hop on and play 2-3 hours a night without a hitch, and have a blast in those hours. And it will be even better with the patch and linux server.

Fredrickson,

You got the personality all wrong. If your going to take hold of the reigns of the 'bluesnews most ph34red troll,' at least be a troll If you don't know the past of the name you've chosen for the bluesnews forums, I'd advise you to change it--soon. If you do, well, at least play the part.

"Anyways, this doesn't really seem like a game that was made for single player."

Odd, then, that they always seem to mention single-player mode when they talk about the game, and even try to pass off laughable adjectives like 'unique' along with it.

It *was* made (as an afterthought, no doubt) to be played single-player, it just wasn't made competently for that. Multi-player is fun as hell, but if they're going to hype the SP aspect, they need to make it not suck so bad first.

An expansion?

Holy shit man, give us a damn patch first!

Well, I'm glad to see them thinking ahead and adding content to the game, I only wish that some of it were like a few free downloads or something. The initial games needs to be patched first, and not just one patch unless 1.2 is a real doozy they may need one more.

The single player is not against bots, stop saying bots. Its all about non-scripted play. Which means, well, it means bots, but stop saying bots anyway.

#2 I tottally agree wtf is wrong with these people until they pach this thing at least twice more they shouldn't even be looking in the direction of an expation. But EA has got our money now and the only way to get more of it is to sell us more unoptimized code. Patching = no profits.
