The EBGames.com Website (thanks GameSpyDaily) has details on an unannounced multiplayer add-on for Battlefield 1942 titled "The Road to Rome" that's apparently in the works. Here's a bit from the EB listing, which also includes a batch of 20 screenshots (though the images seem to be broken at the moment):

Though multiplayer experience will be the focus of The Road To Rome, there will be a mode of unique single player action. These levels feature improved artificial intelligence with no scripting, meaning players will get a completely different experience each time.

Six new maps from the Sicilian and Italian campaigns including Operation Husky (Sicily), and the battles for Anzio and Monte Cassino.
Eight new vehicles including the German BF-110 and British Mosquito fighter bombers.
Two new fighting forces including the French legionnaires and Italian forces.
Three new hand-held weapons including a rifle grenade launcher, the British Sten SMG and bayonets.
Proprietary Refractor 2 engine raises bar for graphics and 3D rendering.
Huge multiplayer component supporting up to 64 players that requires teamwork and cooperation from each member in order to achieve victory for the Axis or Allies.
Unique single player mode features no scripting, meaning the player gets different experience each time they play.

I have a kind of love/hate relationship with BF1942. On the one hand, it runs great on my PC (which is dated by current standards) and I usually have a good deal of fun when I hit the online circuit. On the other hand, the game STILL hates my soundcard (which means having to manually disable sound hardware via DX Diagnostics whenever I want to play it - the ONLY game that forces me to do this), the constant CD checks are a royal pain in the ass, and the small arms exchanges are still horribly haphazard (nothing worse than emptying a BAR into an opponent at very close range and failing to hit him at all).

I have to agree with those who think the original game should be fixed/patched up first BEFORE they start throwing out expansion packs...
