has details on an unannounced multiplayer add-on for Battlefield 1942 titled
"The Road to Rome" that's apparently in
the works. Here's a bit from the EB listing, which also includes a batch of 20
screenshots (though the images seem to be broken at the moment):
Though multiplayer experience will be the focus of The Road To Rome, there will be a mode of unique single player action. These levels feature improved artificial intelligence with no scripting, meaning players will get a completely different experience each time.
- Six new maps from the Sicilian and Italian campaigns including Operation Husky (Sicily), and the battles for Anzio and Monte Cassino.
- Eight new vehicles including the German BF-110 and British Mosquito fighter bombers.
- Two new fighting forces including the French legionnaires and Italian forces.
- Three new hand-held weapons including a rifle grenade launcher, the British Sten SMG and bayonets.
- Proprietary Refractor 2 engine raises bar for graphics and 3D rendering.
- Huge multiplayer component supporting up to 64 players that requires teamwork and cooperation from each member in order to achieve victory for the Axis or Allies.
- Unique single player mode features no scripting, meaning the player gets different experience each time they play.
Well here's our answer to wether we'll see ANY tools released for BF soon.
The game rocks pure and simple. Those having troubles (normally)simply haven't patched the game with the first patch, are using illegal versions which won't allow you to connect to a server (the nocd.exe causes this issue btw) OR they have systems that run Half Life very well but are very low on resources. BF1942 is RAM hungery. You need lots of it to play the game. Isn't this OBVIOUS to people when they read of 32 player games? Especially when there are so many different vehicles being used on a map at once. Get some RAM and watch the game perform MUCH better. If you have less than 256MB of ram you are in a world of hurt with this game. 512 is the min that makes the game nice to play.
Sorry but it's the truth, the game doesn't suck your system does. <-- I normally hate statements like this, but I have seen this game running on a multitude of systems. (I admin monthly LAN Parties)
The big issue about EA and/or DICE right now is they don't want to release the tools for this game. If it was moddable (and it is VERY moddable code wise) this game COULD rival Half-Life for popularity. RAM is cheap now-a-days.
