#6: I actually thought the Super Mario Brothers Movie was handled relatively well. They gave it an actual stand alone plot, the acting was excellent(even the NY accent girls worked). The characters were decent. And being what it is the premise was interesting. I think the best thing is that they managed to take all the games and re-write everything more-or-less from the premise up, yet still be true to the games. And it was witty. Even as a bad movie...compared to most other video game adaptations its friggin' Shakespeare(and unlike Lara Croft it doesn't rely on Marios' breasts).
#15: I don't think the opening credits to the first movie were that spectacular. I'm not going to get into it but I think the movies were decent just took the wrong aproach to the whole story arc.
As for Wing Commander... I have the habit of being able to like almost all movies, cuz I look at them as a critic, as a aspiring pro, as a geek, and as a fan. for once all four of these hated it.
The acting was surprisingly good considering the two leads... And I'm actually glad it's 'submarine in space.' and Chris Roberts is a great guy...
...but Roger Ebert puts it best when he said:
"These actors, alas, are at the service of a submoronic script and special effects that look like a video game writ large. ``Wing Commander'' arrives at the end of a week that began with the death of the creator of ``2001: A Space Odyssey.'' Close the pod bay door, Hal. And turn off the lights."
At least he didn't "HATE HATE HATE HATE" it... Ebert's the man...check out his reviews for Pearl Harbor and North.
www.suntimes.com/ebert ... Funny stuff.
Didn't they just prove that wine wasn't good for you a few weeks back?
