Star Wars Galaxies Beta 2 Begins

The Weekly Wednesday Beta Report #18 on the Star Wars Galaxies Forums (thanks Weas) has word they are "slowly ramping up" beta 2 of Star Wars Galaxies, the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG. The article offers some words of discouragement for those who would participate expecting "fun," a "cup of tea," getting out from under the NDA, and similar stuff. There is also a description of what a significant milestone this beta phase represents.

I played the AC2 beta for a little while and had a great time, but then I realized there was no point to contiue. There is hardly any skill involved in MMO Games like AC2, just huge amounts of time wasted to become "good" at the game. I might be interested in Planetside, because it look slike you will actually have to develop some FPS skills to be "good" at it. I'm not sure about SWG though, is it going to be needing skill or will it be a click-and-watch-a-fight that anyone who can use a mouse can play?

There's no excuse for hardcore gamers to not have fast computers, even if they're not absolutly top of the line. But to pull in the big numbers like EQ does, you've got to appeal to the regular humans, who unlike us will spend money on other things before they're computers are up to the minute.

First, fresh air. Breathe it.

Secondly some people don't want to spend hundreds of dollars each month to continously upgrade their comp. The majority of the really huge games like EQ are casual computer game players. For the majority of MMORPGs that come out these the ony way they can make a profit is to cross over to the mainstream. Outside of gaming and graphics design a 450 would be usuable for almost anything.

Now I do have a good comp to run things on so it's not an issue with me, just for some people it is.

"I'm really surprised an MMO would take the route of such super high system requirements. How in the world are they going to pull in large numbers of people with those kinds of requirements?"

Because maybe its time for fucktards to actually upgrade their computers instead of trying to run all this shit on their pentium 2 450's????

Hello people, its called technology. If you cant hang, then fucking go back to minesweeper, or get a fucking job

AC2 dosn't really have that high of requirments if you look at the current systems coming out. My 1.1 ghz, 256, GF2 MX 64mb system runs the game well at mid graphics settings, and it still looks VERY nice. The game is very scalable (Geforce 1 is still very much playable) and with the monthly storyline and updates it's got the gameplay stuff down pretty good.

E&B is fun, I played the beta for over 1 year... only reason i'm playing retail at all is because of all the people I met ingame and like to play with. Although it looks like EVE will be able to kill this one.

The Game just looks breathtaking on a 2 Ghz, 1 gig ram, readon 9700 machine.

You know, I never hear anyone talk about Jumpgate. I played it a long, long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away, mind you!) but from what I've heard it's suppose to be alot better. Any constructive opinions?

If the AC2 beta is any indication of what the final game will be like, I can't see why it'd be on anyone's list of MMOGs to play. I tried it for a little while when it was first available to File Planet subscribers... truly horrid.

I played Earth and Beyond for a couple of weeks, but I got too bored with it. It's a great Space UPS simulator, but I can't find a reason to pay money for it.

I've ejected AC2 from the mix because from what I hear, I'd have to run the game at a detail level I wouldn't like even with my system: AMD Athon XP 1900+, 1gb of DDR Ram, GeForce3 Ti500.

The requirements for that game are really, really high.
