Out of the Blue

My buddy hoosier_dadi is sort of renowned in our circle for being able to concoct and adhere to some outrageous theories to cover a variety of circumstances, but just because they are outrageous doesn't mean they are not worth considering. It has been noted already that the sniper who has been shooting people around the Washington, D.C. area seems to be life imitating art, as there are aspects of the story that seem to be straight out of a thriller movie. With the recent revelations that this guy may be demanding a ransom to end his reign of terror, Mr. _dadi has outdone himself in making a pretty logical connection to the movie where this has all happened already. In real life we have an expert sniper, holding a city for ransom, leaving tarot cards as his calling card, all the while taunting the police, while in the movies, we have an effort focused on (summary directly from the IMDB) "catching a skillful sniper who is murdering the innocent while holding a city to ransom." In this case he also taunted the police, and his calling card was from the zodiac, rather than the tarot. Now if we only had Dirty Harry to solve the real-life crime the way he did in the movies.

No offence here EE, I'm a Brit as well and I must admit that I'd support a more puerile news policy regarding Irish Terrorists. After all, they have no issue with being puerile to serve their own ends, do they?

ah that refelects a post i made here about 4 years ago (i think i was calling my self puppydog or sumsuch then relating to the ira. calling bombings "terriorist activities" and referring to them by their chosen names only grants litgitamacy to their operations. this is why i campaigned to have the news refer to them as fu*kwits on all official news reports. loyalist terriorists would so under the banner of sh*teating m*therf*ckers as there seems to be more of these sort of groups. all activities should be referred to as mastrabating. e.g.
"the sh*theads mastrabated a building this evening, while in other news the sh*iteating Motherf*ckers were responsible for 3 punishment mastrabations last night."
purile... yes but at least it would remove the venieer of respectability that somehow these .. freaks seem to have. i live in ireland and am disgusted to see that most of these people are respected in their areas. even when they beat up people within these areas for opposing their suppy of drugs.
uhhhh. id better stop before i really offend someone but i still stand by what i wrote(badly). my €.02

I was also reminded of Dirty Harry the day I heard about this thing.

Here's what I would do if I were supreme tyrant of the media:

Instead of giving this villain imposing epithets like "The Tarot Card Killer" and "Serial Sniper," which surely boost this guy's sense of self importance, everyone should start referring to him as "The Pansy Piece of Shit Fuckhead Who Murders The Unarmed." Because it's more accurate. If this guy is going to have a legacy, we could at least make it totally embarrasing.

I think that whoever it is, is disciplined, damn smart and damn lucky...anyone with decent aim can start picking people off, avoiding detection in well-populated areas is another matter entirely. He's operating on borrowed time already...this can't really continue a lot longer in my opinion.

I can't remember the name of the Dirty Harry that ended with the RPG shot. It was the one on Alcatraz and he had Tyne Daily (sp?) as a partner. It wasn't Magnum Force, as I'm sure that was the one with David Seoul.

It's a horrible situation, I agree, and one that's almost impossible to combat:(

Always interesting to see how flimsy the modern "progressive" society really is; how, devoid of any serious external regulation, it depends entirely on the willingness of people to play nice and regulate their own behavior. ONE single loser decides to Not play by the rules and the whole system falters.

Think what a mere dozen such people scattered across the country could accomplish.

The article doesn't mention that there are several systems similar to this (although on a much larger scale) that have been in use for decades.

Radiothermal generators have been in operation on interplanetary spacecraft (most noteable the Pioneer and Voyager probes launched in the 1970's). They generate their power from the heat created by radioactive decay.

Has anyone noticed that the lunatic sniper has been referring to himself as "god", which was also (iirc) the code name of the sniper in the film "Navy Seals".

That would cool. Dirty Harry or Harrete could chase him/her all over the DC area taunting him/her and shooting to wound.
Then chase the douche bag to a pier and bazzoka him/her off of into the water....wait I think the bazzoka thing was from another DH movie, but it fits and as long as the jerk is given his/hers it would rule.
