Im a huge fan of close combat 4 & 5. I still play them just about every day. I must say that after playing this demo a few times that I will Definitly *NOT* buy this game. The graphics are crappy but I can live with that. The interface is god awfull. The soldiers spin around in diff directions for 10 secs after issuing a command. you can never get a good look at what's going on. The moral system is fuxored. soldiers run away at the first sight of combat. the resource point/battlegroup system is totally unrealistic.
I fankly didnt have an ounce of fun playing this. I'll play it a few more times then its gone from my HD.

This comes from the people who made the Close Combat series, which I found immensely enjoyable. That and this are somewhat lacking in the graphics department, but I must say that I find GI Combat much less entertaining, gameplay wise.
The camera is cumbersome and I find it difficult to get the view I want. Units are hard to see and the only way to zoom to a unit using the interface brings your camera down to a single soldier, not the best view for issuing commands. In Close Combat, orders left dots on the screen that were easily viewable/changeable for modification on the fly. Now I have to locate each unit and redirect them one at a time. You can issue orders from the quick menu at the bottom of the screen, but you cannot tell where the unit that you are issueing the orders to is. All you get is an icon indicating unit type, so you can't even tell one squad from another if they are the same type. There is little to no feedback (as there was in Close Combat- voice messages and a message window) for important situational updates and the camera prevented me from keeping a close eye on all my units. The tutorial is hideous and doesn't help you learn the game mechanics at all (contrasting the Close Combat tutorials which are very indepth and useful).
These are just a few of my compaints about this game. The graphics are poor, true, but I knew what they looked like ahead of time and was still looking forward to this demo. The gameplay, however, I see as a step backwards from Close Combat.
This game is off my buy list now, unfortunately.

I don't think I've ever seen someone go that far out on a limb to bitch. Bravo. LOL You kids must have a shitload of time on your hands.

Halo, there's been more than three WW2 games recently on the market.

MoH:AA, Sudden Strike 2, BF 1942, IL2 Sturmovik, WWII: Panzer Claws, Prisoner of War, War Commander, Deadly Dozen 2, Airborne Assault, Combat Mission 2, G.I. Combat, Commandos 2, Combat Flight Simulator 3, just to name a few.

Not to mention the many more on their way: Hearts of Iron, Hidden and Dangerous 2, Blitzkrieg, WW2 RTS (C|Maddox), WW2 Frontline Command, etc etc.

The market has been flooded for quite sometime now.

You know selling dlc before you patch the client doesn't impress upon me the need to support your shit. -massdev

Did you write that yourself or did you have a team of monkies working around the clock on type writers.

Your poor attempt at witty humor is actually funnier than the story!

Good job though

The following scene includes harsh language and brief comic mischief. Any resemblance to actual people is purely coincidental...

12-year-old boy: "Hello man who works outside, did you know G.I. Combat looks like ASS! And I’m not talking Jenna Jameson ass, I mean smelly old homeless person ass after he just soiled his pants with green diarrhea".
Man who works outside: "You should stop playing games and either get into art or by a 3d design program."
12-year-old boy: "Uh...yeah...whatever. Why should I do that?"
Man who works outside: "because then they wouldn't have to train monkeys to make some of these games that have BARF inducing graphics. Monkey are gentle creatures, and would rather spend their time swinging through the jungle and throwing feces at each other." (http://www.fecesflingingmonkey.com)
12-year-old boy: "Maybe your right sir, maybe I should look past "nice graphics" and focus purely on gameplay from now on whenever I play a new game. In fact, I should look forward to the day when game graphics are so bad that pixelly trees look more like abstract art then their real-life counterparts. But hey, I’m just a 12 year old kid, and a sheep to top it all off. BAHHH BAHHH." By the way sir, are you sure its safe to eat out of that garbage can?"
Man who works outside: "Shut up! Go home!"

Graphics don't make the game. They just add to the excitment, This and many other games are considered Strat games and base themselves on the realism and historical correctnes. You being the comsumer sheep that you are think that a game only sells if it has the lastest graphics engine and system requirements that arent even out yet. Not all games are directed towards you. I believe a 12 year old kid down the street thinks the same way as you. He was bothering my all day as I was working outside complaining that the graphics of this(what ever game)game suck, graphics graphics graphics!! I said "You should stop playing games and either get into art or buy a 3d design program." He asked "Why shoudl I do that?" I replied "Well all you care about and talk about is graphics, not the game it'self, you are blinded by pretty colors to see some actual thought development and hell even a plot take place." He went home after that.
If you want a Good ww2 RTS Play Sudden Strike 2. it's got plenty of background and the detail even though it's 2d is so great you can see canteens on their supply belt.
BTW, Combat missoin isnt even a RTS.

I think games like Combat Mission aren't supposed to compete with real time 3D action games. Its a direct descendant of top down turn-based sprite or hex-based war simulations brought to ground level. If you view it from that perspective it looks pretty darn good.

Hopefully a fan of the genre will post and give the lowdown.

Sorry the graphics are poop. If you want an idea of how bad the graphics are, just eat a bowl of green pea soup; think about GIC, and then barf all over your monitor. Then, alter reality and change the resolution of your barf to 800x600 and add lots and lots of pixels and you will have an idea of how bad the game looks.

Looks like horse manure, eh? Not everything can be UT2k3, and given the graphics quality on most other RTS games, GI Combat looks pretty darn good- free rotating camera, impressive zoom range, gorgeous sky (hell, you can actually -see- the sky, unlike certain other "RTS" games recently on market (WC3 *cough cough*).
I'm not advertising for it though, I haven't played around with it for more than ten minutes myself, but it looks like its worth a try if you like RTS games and can spare the bandwidth to grab the demo.

What's with all the world war II stuff that seems to be glutting the market these days? Are people just wistful for a war we can look back on and feel good about?

Thats odd because I hear this game is supposed to be even better than Combat Mission in many ways.

I'd say 3 minutes is cheating yourself out of a possibly very good experience if you give it a chance .

Contains singleplayer, no multi & a tutorial level.
Spent exactly 3 mins on my HDD before it was DELETED!!!
No options to change resolution or graphics, it lools like 640x480.
Embarrasing to say the least, avoid like the plague.
