NOLF2 ATI Patch

An update called No One Lives Forever 2 - System may hang during gameplay on the ATI tech support website offers a fix for a problem some users are experiencing trying to play No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way using one of their RADEON 8500 series products. They have posted new drivers for WinXP/2K and Win98/ME, noting that these drivers include ATI Advanced Control Panels and language support for English, French and German, but are not Microsoft Certified. Thanks Nolf Girl.

Cholma,

What kind of CD/DVD ROM do you have? I've encountered the same problem until I found out that I needed to update the firmware for my DVD-ROM drive which happens to be a Samsung 16x DVD-ROM. After I've updated the firmware, bingo all of sudden my NOLF2 discs were detected and I was able to install the program flawlessly.

Hope this helps.

I thought that was a bad disc, but if you are getting the same problem I did(on one of 3 of my computers), I wonder if its the copy protection or something.

back to the original comment that seemed to fuel the flame, alot of recent games that have came out ATI has had to release fixes for critical errors, that result in an unplayable game.

NOLF2, Hitman2, Mafia...

I'm no fanboy, one of my systems have an ATI, and its safe to say I probably will never buy another one of their products unless their driver support pulls their heads out.

You people are probably the same people that months ago were praising nvidia when the gf4 was on top, but change like the tides when ATI finally puts out something that can compete. Unfortunately their drivers are nowhere near the quality yet. Hopefully they can clean that up. Competition benefits all users regardless of preference. Use what you want, I'm not trying to tell anyone otherwise.

Thats right miss off the smilie putting it out of context...

That hardly puts it out of context. Take a look at your first sentence:

Why am I not surprised the nvidiots would jump on this thread slagging off ATI.

I don't see a smiley there. And a smiley hardly gives you the right to use "nvidiots" and still claim that you're not biased. Either admit that you're biased or try to be objective about it. You can't be both.

Well, I have a GeForce4 4400 with the latest beta drivers but I can't even install NOLF2 let alone play it. I keep getting "copying resource" errors while it tries to transfer SOUND.REZ from CD to HDD, which then results in an Invalid Page Fault from ikernal.exe

I've already exchanged the disks once, but this is crazy. I've NEVER had this kind of problem with a game before. It won't even install? Seems hard to believe that 2 disks in a row would be bad... but maybe I'll have Sierra replace them instead of going back to the same store (maybe they got a bad production run?) I usually don't buy games when they first come out, just to prevent having to put up with crap like this, but I was really looking forward to this one.

I can at least comment without bias, unlike those nvidia fanboys with their dodgy eyesight brought on by poor nvidia IQ

That entire sentence is ironic. Look up bias in the dictionary.

Why am I not surprised the nvidiots would jump on this thread slagging off ATI.

Funny how every game I have does not pose a problem on the drivers I use, including NOLF 2. I came from a geforce card to radeon 8500 and the drivers are far superior on the radeon. Every new detonator I tried seemed to kill something, be it performance or tv out functionality on my GF. So having tried both worlds I can at least comment without bias, unlike those nvidia fanboys with their dodgy eyesight brought on by poor nvidia IQ

Edit:- Ive also just remembered that I had to use VERY old drivers on my geforce because Half Life would simply lock up the computer on startup otherwise. Every detonator after something like 6.47 (or whatever the naming convention was - folder name is W2k-647) would cause the lockup when playing Counter Strike, so there I was stuck with a driver that was several months old and wasnt as fast as should be.

Also.. Nvidia has released over 100 Driver updates in 3 years.

Whoa there. You do realize that majority of the Detonators out there are leaked beta drivers? nVidia rarely releases beta drivers for download on their page. Visit nVidia's driver download page and see which versions are/were available for download if you'd like to see for yourself. In fact, they only make drivers that are WHQL certified or pending WHQL certification available for download. nVidia's always had a track record of releasing good, stable, fast drivers. If you gave an interim driver a try, chances are that you downloaded it from guru3d.com, reactorcritical.com, 3dchipset.com or any of a number of tweaking pages.

On another note: nVidia's drivers are unified, which means that one driver works with all of their chipsets. It's also a good sign that the development process of their drivers is careful and well-planed. That's something ATI still hasn't been able to do.

Every damn one of them addresses some bug or fix to some game.

Actually, Nvidia's most recent drivers address performance increases and new features (like the new nView, the built-in refresh rate overrides, and the combined menu system in 40.xx). They've long since hammered out the vast majority of incompatibilities. And the few incompatibilities that were introduced were only present in beta drivers. If you don't want to experiment with them, stick to the WHQL drivers and you probably won't go wrong.

I am so sick of you Nvidiot's freaking BULL-SHIT.

I think it goes both ways.

Just quietly, between you and I... I'm fairly damn sure that nimh's comments were heavily charged with sarcasm:)

As for the ATI Vs. nVidia. It's a matter of personal preference and/or a good deal of faith. When I'm paying that type of money for a videocard I'll replace with the next update, faith doesn't cut it for me, so I go with a proven performer with the games I play. Hence my GF4.

First... bull-shit you are getting 50 FPs with max settings on a TNT2.. Post a legit screenshot.. and 320x240 does not count..

Also.. Nvidia has released over 100 Driver updates in 3 years. Every damn one of them addresses some bug or fix to some game. I am so sick of you Nvidiot's freaking BULL-SHIT.

I have a Radeon 9700 and I get 70-90 FPS with everything maxed AND 4x FSAA AND 16x aniso. and I am playing at 1280x1024.

They are producing a fix, infact releaseing a whole beta driver set to fix a problem with ONE game. I'd say thats dam good driver support.
Yeah, and if you would have bought an nVidia, the game would already be working fine.

I couldn't test out the drivers in the game because they killed Direct3D. But I am only getting about 5 fps when drawing windows on my desktop.
