Out of the Blue

I've been continuing my recent rediscovery of the joys of DOOM by way of DooM Legacy. I had a deathmatch last night with my pal RedAnt and also rediscovered the joys of "the claw," the effect when hands that have been pounding keys too hard or clenching a mouse too tightly go numb or start generating sharp pains. If I had to guess why I suffer this more while playing DOOM than other shooter titles, I'd have to say the insanely fast pace of gameplay is the most logical difference to suspect, but in any event, I need to re-learn how to exert a little less clench on the controllers, or learn to type with my knuckles (which come to think of it, might be an improvement over my miserable typing anyway).

It's probably just a coincidence, but make no mistake, WSU is the drunkest college in the U.S.

Blue, you could try using a bigger mouse - that stopped happening to me so much after I started using Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, even after five-hour speedrunning sessions :).

The deal here is that network telivision is regulated by the government (FCC) because the government regulates the airwaves (this goes for radio as well) and not private business. This means that they censor language (shit, fuck, cunt, cock, cocksuker, tits, motherfucker). They also censor nudity of any kind.

Now of course these rules don't apply to cable because you pay for cable (which is hypocritical logic since you buy a TV), but for the most part almost all of our most famous shows are on network tv and therefor censored.

George Carlin is actually the man behind this whole story and i did a google search and found this link of the case that started all this bullshit.

Leave it to HBO Real Sex to have shown these guys a few months ago. There act is really funny and quite harmless. It reminds me of a bunch of drunk fraternity guys. The best part of the HBO segment was their interviewing of new "actors" for productions in other cities. Quite hilarious watching them reproduce the show's signiture moves under pressure.

After having proven my in-depth knowledge of Australian culture, here's a more serious question:

What about nude women? I don't know about the US, but our TV is full of them. Is that also unacceptable? Or are the producers of US TV shows simply all men?

[EDIT] scratch that. I just realized that most of the stuff we see here originates in Hollywood, so I guess nude women are considered "politcally correct" :). How they can justify the difference is beyond me, though.

Didn't you know? This is America!

Uh, ok :).

So you think this is really just to be politically correct? Are they afraid that people will see this is as an Australian stereotype and that they could think all men in Australia run around naked with only a cape on?

How ridiculous! Everyone knows that an Australian man goes nowhere without at least one tin of Fosters beer in his hand!

No worries, she'll be right!

Hazard...

%Didn't you know? This is America! The founding nation of free speech, civil liberty and lasiez faire capitalism. The way we handle things here is to censor everything under the guise of political correctness by making television, a private media outlet, a governmental priority. For shame on you germans for flip flopping fascism with us after the war when we weren't looking! I knew Colonel Klink wasn't as dumb as he acted.

% = internation sign for sarcasm

america is so fucked up sometimes. but at least the trains run on time.

... are not allowed to perform in a late show? (it is a late show, right?).

Seems much too prudish to me -- everyone who has seen these guys knows that it's essentially a comedy act. Even though they are naked there's certainly nothing pornographic about it, so what's the big deal?

We had them on public TV here in Germany and I've got to say it was quite a good show. Seems a waste to not let them perform when they are there...

Does Doom Legacy support Y-Axis movement with the mouse? If not and it's like the original doom I'd point to the continual side to side x-axis movement as the cause of the pain. At least that's how it was for me back in the day. Man was it nice to have that other axis so my hand wouldn't cramp. On a side note I need to go to bed sooner. It's too weird having blue doing work before I even pass out. I feel like I'm in Japan or something. Oyasami Nasai.

I used to suffer from a similar malady - Super Nintendo Thumb. Over one summer, hours upon hours of head-to-head matchs of Super Mario Kart and Street Fighter II (the first one that was out for the SNES) against my brother resulted in a right thumb devoid of print, smooth as glass and perpetually pink.
