DOOM III Q&A

There's a DOOM III Q&A on Gaming Invasion talking with Tim Willits, the lead designer on id Software's upcoming DOOM III (unless I miss my guess, this was conducted waaay back at QuakeCon). They discuss his inspirations in pursuing a career in game design, working with John Carmack, how DOOM III is coming along, challenges the game has presented, the most impressive feature of their new engine, multiplayer support, mod support, supporting lower-end hardware, weapons, per-poly collision detection, and more.

I remember when Q2 came out and reading some comments by several id memebers relating to problems incorporating coop. Then I remembered an interview with Cliff B where he talked about all the design intricacies that had to go into coop for Unreal. There was a good deal of thought behind it that I never would have considered as I played the game. It wasn't until I actually tried scripting in Unreal that realized it was a pain in the ass.

Too bad there won't be coop, at least we don't have to wait an extra year for it. Maybe we'll get lucky and somebody will mod it like another post mentioned. Maybe we should petition for that instead...
