DOOM III Q&A

There's a DOOM III Q&A on Gaming Invasion talking with Tim Willits, the lead designer on id Software's upcoming DOOM III (unless I miss my guess, this was conducted waaay back at QuakeCon). They discuss his inspirations in pursuing a career in game design, working with John Carmack, how DOOM III is coming along, challenges the game has presented, the most impressive feature of their new engine, multiplayer support, mod support, supporting lower-end hardware, weapons, per-poly collision detection, and more.

Oh man, that does stink. How will this be DOOM then? That is one of the main reasons that made the original game so great. It would be neat if they had 2 on 2 action where the two teams have to fight their way to each other, not knowing where the others are, and then try to whale on the other guys, possibly using creatures you hadn't activated yet or temporarliy neutralized as traps. I have no idea about what the gameplay will actually be like, but a guy can dream, can't he?
