Oh, you are talking about more believable graphics. I wasn't talking about how 'believable' they are. I said the graphics look better.. not more realistic. Too much realism can be boring and ruin gameplay.

I think it is more exciting that you can go do different planets. That way you can have several colonies all on one map and that makes it more fun. One or two planets wouldn't seem as interesting.. at least not with the way the game is setup and played.

Well, there's one example about different tastes.. I've talked about those 'lines' (I'm guessing they are some sort of laser or Ion weapon) that are used in ORB on another forum, and most people there felt the same way I do. One, they don't really look like a weapon (thats why I like to call them 'lines') maybe because they look so weak, and two, it's hard to tell who is shooting who when many ships have that weapon. In some screenshots and vids I saw, there were lines going all over the place. heh I guess I just like weapons that look more powerful as they do in Heg.

What game are you thinking of that has better graphics than Heg?
IG3, Homeworld(: Cataclysm), I-War 2. Frontier: Elite 2 had more belivable graphics, for that matter. Probably O.R.B. and Freelancer too, but I'd need to see them moving first
I guess it depends on people's tastes.
Looks that way.
This was a gameplay issue. If they made everything to scale, it would be stupid. It would take forever to go from one planet to another.
And you can't think of lots of ways around that that doesn't involve scaling the planets down by a factor of 100? For instance, making missions center around just one planet, or FTL, or whatever.

Either way, there are plenty of ways of doing it without making your game look like it was designed by a 5 year old.

It's better than those 'lines' I've seen in some of those other games.
I disagree.

I played the demo of IG3 first before the Hegemonia Tech demo. When I went to check out the Tech Demo of Hegemonia I was NOT impressed at all. Will check out the demo anyways since i keep getting mixed reviews.

If it's not improved significantly over the demo, I'm afraid I think you're mad, sorry

The scale in the demo was so... wrong, I've seen more believable cartoons. They could have used flat shaded untextured polygons and not made it look as bad as the stupid scale they use. Don't people know how big planets are?

Then there's the rather lacklustre weapons (little blobs of <insert primary colour>, woopee)

And what was wrong with the graphics in the rolling demo?

Then there's the rather lacklustre weapons (little blobs of <insert primary colour>, woopee), the fairly poor shield effects, the boring textures on the ships (one flat overdone metal effect), the dodgy explosion effects (that, um, "asteroid" is a perfect example. Never mind that it doesn't need explosions in the first place, but it's *so* obviously sprite based).

The low texture detail in the demo didn't help either.

The graphics in the playable demo are better than any other 3D space RTS.. including IG3 and ORB.

Not seen the playable demo yet. If it's not improved significantly over the demo, I'm afraid I think you're mad, sorry

It says in the readme that changing the resolution in game crashes the game to desktop. So i guess we're stuck to 800x600.

And you cannot change the resolution the same way as with the rolling demo. That program.inf file is encrypted (sp?) in the playable demo. So you can't edit it

Yeah, I noticed that too, sorta sucks that you can't change the resolution, is there supposed to be more than one option to choose the video menu in-game? All I see is 800x600x32

hmmm....

Yeah, it was worth the download for me.. but I'm on a T1 so it didn't take long. And what was wrong with the graphics in the rolling demo? Or is the tech demo something else? The graphics in the playable demo are better than any other 3D space RTS.. including IG3 and ORB. At least IMO.

Not sure if its the same for this demo, but to change the rez in the tech demo that was released a couple of months ago, find the file 'program.inf' under inf directory, open it with a text editor and change the lines: XResolution = 800
YResolution = 600

to your preferd resolution.. eg: XResolution = 1024
YResolution = 768
hope that works!

Go into the options before you start a game and change the res then. At first, I thought it exited the game, but it actually just minimized it. Check and see if it is still running if the game exits when you change res.

sweet looking demo, but my only options are for 800x600. I guess they wanted it to run smoothly on everyones machine. I usually run everything at 1200x1024 or 1600x1200, so this is hard to go back to. Anybody know a way to crank up the resolution?
