Blizzard Countdown [Sep 19, 2002, 12:34 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The countdown is underway on the Blizzard Entertainment
Website (thanks Hanzo) where they started the clock ticking yesterday for
their promised big announcement (story). Meanwhile, the mailbag
here at the Blue Tower has been filling up with entries from folks excited to
see the same countdown on www.starcraft2.com
(thanks StarmiT) which would seem to be an indicator of what today's announcement
from the Tokyo Game Show will center around. Just to clarify, while the
announcement may well indeed be about plans for a StarCraft sequel to satisfy
those eager for such a project, the countdown actually appears on other domains
Blizzard owns currently pointed at the same server, so you will also see this
dramatic countdown (at 7-some odd hours as of this writing) on warcraft.com,
as well, so there's no reason to be certain the announcement relates to
StarCraft.
I hope its not a Xbox only game, that so annoying. I only have time for one console and thats my ps2. Im still annoyed about Halo, I would be even more annoyed if this a cool game for Xbox only. Its funny a co-worker and I was just discussing Starcraft a few months ago and how cool a Starcraft based FPS would be.
Westwood did it and it sucked. Time for Blizzard to show em how its done. Who wants to be the pioneer when you can be the king?
There are no plans to have Blizzard as a development partner for the Xbox.
Wow, get a grip guys. No game developer deserves reverence like that.

Ray, just lurk the Battle.net forums. It seems to be full of people wasting their lives away hanging on every moment of this counter. It seems the message changes every 2-3 hours, some people have set up websites that decode them.
Careful, your feet will fall asleep long before DNF is finished.

There are different messages, but I could not tell you how quickly they change or repeat. I know that the site is a bit different than what I saw yesterday and, even from what I have seen today, the message text has changed.
However, I am much too lazy to sit there and write down the (backward) message. In that case, I would rather wait out the four or so hours that are left.
Most people seem to be sticking with the Starcraft FPS, primarily one with a Xbox flavor. I do not doubt that this would be some type of Xbox exclusive, but I wonder if they plan on taking the Halo route and bypassing the PC...

Out of the few sites that I have seen, http://www.infoceptor.com/ seems to have the most info about it. However, they have not updated for a bit so they do not have the latest messages.

Stephen says: Someone on the shack figured it out early this morning. If you watch the counter long enough the numbers turn blue for a second. If you write down the numbers that turn blue and use A=1, B=2 and so on, it spells out "Somebody call for an exterminator", backwards.
