Hump,

Hmm...our systems are pretty similar with the slight overclocking I do and running the 4600. Want to humor me for a second or two? Try the demo with mouse smoothing disabled (set all the way to the left) and see if that helps out at all. For whatever reason, I have never been able to fully adjust to the way 'Lith handles input and that is one of the things that make it feel/play/control smoother for myself.

I seem to be a lot more sensitive to it than others, so it may not have any affect, but still give it a try... Also, are you using the 40.41s and using some type of software to make sure your framerate is not being limited to 60Hz?

Edit: Another quirky thing I noticed with the earlier 'Lith games was how differently (better) they responded with an optical mouse. Yeah, optical mice are more precise, but the difference was only that big when I was playing a 'Lith game. Again, more of my weird input sensitivity.

Thinking (feeling?) NOLF 2 runs significantly smoother than the original,
Ray

I missed the first NOLF, so I obviously can't compare the two. The demo was pretty damn spiffy, I'm a sucker for interactivity, hell I might even buy this for my parents for xmas!

Ray,

Its more a gut feeling. I'm usually pretty accurate if the framerate is between 20-50 because of the "jittery-ness" of the visuals.

As far as enabling anything, no. Everything is maxed except the screen res which is at 1024 x 768 @ 32. I have a AMD 2000+. Nothing on my rig is overclocked. I'm running XP with the SP 1 update. Thats it.

Oh and nothing uneccassary is running in the background like Virus protection etc. (which I found can be the cause of pretty bad performance).

Certainly looks much better than the original! Graphically, it's there. Still, no idea why, but this chugs like the original did in many places:(
There are many details to be impressed by, as well as the hilarious dialogue.
Sounds are not that great for some things. Using the Katana against the iron sheeting, sounds nothing like I'd imagine.
Pretty impressed:)

Hump,

Are you enabling something in the game (if so, do tell) to view the framerate or is that more of a gut feeling? I have always had a hard time determining 'Lith's framerate by general feeling due to the way the mouse input is handled, but the game seems to run quite fast for me. I just tried it again with Quincunx and it ran really well, too.

512k?

Really, really liking this demo,
Ray

Really nice demo. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. My FPS is around 30 but I have everything pegged and my vid card is only a Ti4200 w/512k DDR system RAM. My audio codec is AC 97 on board and it sounds fine. I doubt we'll be hearing the term "Lithtech sucks!" much after the full game is released (Jupiter build anyway) because it looks excellent. textures are nice and crisp, water is equal to Morrowinds' and characters are obviously high-poly with very good lip-synch.

What gets me about the game itself is the attention to details. I walked up to the wooden fence and in the corner was mildew on the wood where the rain would splash up during a storm and the lower piece itself was bleached out just like it would in real life. I crouched near the soda machine and you could hear the hum of the motor from the refrigeration unit. Theres a dozen other things just like it.

I'll be buying this.

Ohhh, this is so much better than the first one. I love the Russian level. Wow. The graphics are great too. And no, they dont give UT a run for its money. Ut2K3 is only using half rez textures. Still, WOW. They do need to work on the A.I. a bit more. Some guards on Russian level would be stuck in an area and pace. Other guards would sometimes stand in a doorway and stay there until you finally killed them. Hope they don't jump the gun and fix those small quirks. I wonder how Thief 3 is coming along?

The conversations between the bad guys were the best part of NOLF IMO. I hope they have a ton of it in NOLF 2. Pure hilarity.

Umm...both again?

Presuming the control does not get screwed up on the PC side of things, it seems like a nother must buy. Between those two, it is not much of an issue; besides being a bit different from each other, there is about a two month gap between their respective releases.

Thinking the only thing they debate these days are UT2K3 vs. B1942 :o,

I have the latest Audigy drivers too.... oh well... will have to play even if not all NPCs have voices

pean, go into dxdiag and under the Sound tab turn down the hardware acelleration a couple of notches. It's becoming more commen to have to do this lately... it seems. You may be a sblive owner as well.

Hmm...I did not have that and I am using both XP (home) and the Audigy (Platinum). Did you download/install the most recent Creative drivers that were released (relatively) recently?

Shrugging, thinking Creative's drivers are hit or miss with people,

As already noted, I would expect UT2K3 to be pushed back a bit for bug fixes and general tweaking. Then again, you know the crew is working hard to finish everything up.

Anyhow, I have the best solution for your problem: buy both. I know that I will.

Seriously, they are two completely different types of games. I think that NOLF 2 will be a deeper game overall, but I could not go without some frantic UT2K3 fragging. Also, UT2K3 is likely to get more from (be easier to work on by...) the mod community.

Noting that Hitman 2 is listed on the same day, too,
Ray

I enjoy the demo, but i have a problem with sound. Some NPCs tend to lose their voices, has any of you had that prob? I've read the README file, and it says to uninstall NIMO codec, which I've done, and reinstalled the demo.... now i get no more sound.... anyone had that problem.... I have WinXP with SB Audigy.

Some Ninja small talk (may be slightly inaccurate):
-I think my boyfriend will leave me.
-My grand-mother says that you should always poison your man before he goes to work and promise him the antidote once he comes back.
-What kind of poison should I use?
-I don't know you should ask some from my grand-mother, she doesn't need it anymore.
-Why?
-My grandpa is paralyzed: you should always be careful of the dosage!

LOL Going back for more of this game!

I'd be surprised if they did come out the same day. I reckon 15th Oct onwards for UT2K3 (around same time as Unreal Championship for XBOX is the date my moneys on) Keep an eye on www.tothegame.com for a release date for UT2 - much more accurate than EB IMO.

They are very different games m8, guess it depends on which kind u prefer. Lotsa reply in UT2K3 but from all indications NOLF2 is kick_ass. I'm getting both, but a tough choice if you can only get one.

My preference if I had to decide would be on NOLF2, mainly cos I need a good single player fix after a glut of online FPS games.... thank_god I don't have to do that though
