UT2003 Demo Patch

The promised Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo patch is now available via the demo's in-game auto-update function. The patch is also available as an approximately 3 MB download, a list of download locations can be found on the Unreal Tournament 2003 Website. Word on a Linux patch is that it is to follow soon, but it's possible it will only be released through the auto-updater. Here is the list of what this patch addresses.
- Fixed support for Voodoo3 / Matrox G400.
- Fixed initial framerate hitches in network play.
- Fixed the jittery screen updates in the server browser when sorting by ping.
- Fixed a possible DoS attack in the server code.
- Fixed a few other minor potential crashes.

...confirm that this does work in-game now? Last night, I ended up installing the patch manually since the update had been released for some time, yet the in-game updater never showed up. I am merely asking so I know what to tell other associates and/or players.

Wanting newer, non-"hitch" Nvidia drivers,

Is this the patch that makes the game different from the other half a billion shooters out there?

Everything seems to be running fine after the patch...i did the manual install rather than the in-game version. The game runs fairly well on AMD 1.33, 512mg ram, and Geforce 2 64mg card.

Well it fixed my problem with the jittery updates screen... but now the main menu does it about 15% of the time. ^_^;; It fixed another annoying glitch I saw once in a blue moon also. For some reason I didn't even notice that there was an ingame updater.

Also For some reason this game is only running at 35fps on my 1.2Ghz, 512mb ram, geforce2 64mb system. Either the games limiting it, or it's time for a new 3d card.

2 other fixes not listed:
1)Shock ball travels a tad faster (closer to the speed in UT but not quite that fast).
2)Passing the bomb in bombing run works properly now (alt fire while carrying ball and aiming at teammate).

I have a question about number two. As I do not play Bombing Run that often, much less as the carrier, what is the change? I did not even know there was a difference between fire and alt fire that one; I thought that you could only use the fire key to send away the ball (or whatever you want to call it), hopefully passing it to a teammate in the process.

Curious,
Ray

seems to run fine on a similar system I run. How do you check the frame rate anyway?

Type the command "stat fps" in the console to see your in-game framerates (average and current).

Noting that benchmarks are located in the UT2003\benchmarks folder,

To show the frame rate, bring down the console (the ~ key) and type STAT FPS.

Weird, because in UT that was the command to show you the polygon and node counts.

There is also a BENCHMARK.EXE in the SYSTEM directory that you can use.

I really wish the Voodoo owners would spend the $30 on video cards that will run this game, instead of having the developers cater to them all the time.

#5 - with everything turned on\up I get 30-40fps most of the time in botmatches on a P4 1.8\512\GF2 Ultra, so I don't think there's a problem. We both just need a new graphics card (I'm holding out for the next gen nVidia, and then I'll either get one or get a cheap GF4). My P4 runs fine at 2.4, but I doubt that'll make any difference to UT2003. I don't keep it clocked at that cos there's just no need at the moment.

Ray - holding down alt-fire when carrying the bomb will allow you to target a teammate and then pass the ball to him with primary fire. I didn't realise this was broken in any way, it seemed to work for me before the patch.

Ahhh, it helps (lets) you select/target a temmate? He, he, he...I have been doing it the hard way all this time then. Bah, who needs manuals!

If you can, run your P4 at 2.4; I would expect that you will get a nice performance increase, more than you realize. Not, you know, that getting a 9700 would not be the biggest increase.

Doing about 60FPS on average at 1024x768x32 at maximum detail (for the demo),

Mmm, I think this is another example of the placebo effect, the pass has always worked very well.

Well, perhaps you're right. When I initially put the 1.8 in my main machine I ran benchmarks at both 1.8 and 2.4GHz, and though there was a clear difference, in actual games it was barely noticeable.

There is however another reason I haven't overclocked it permanently - I removed the northbridge fan from my motherboard because it started whining a while ago, and though I've bought a Zalman motherboard cooler to replace it I haven't got around to fitting it yet because it involves removing the motherboard (and therefore almost everything else) to fit it from underneath, and I just can't be arsed
Overclocking without a northbridge cooler would be silly.

Although fairly obvious, realize that there are two sets of benchmarks; those with bots/sounds and those without.

I get anywhere from 50FPS to 130FPS depending on the version that I use.

Wondering what settings you used, if your CPU is holding you that far back,

#15, pre-patch, myself and some guildies were on our server testing things out. The alt fire directed pass was bugged and would only work while certain weapons were selected/not-selected.
