UT2003 Demo Patch

The promised Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo patch is now available via the demo's in-game auto-update function. The patch is also available as an approximately 3 MB download, a list of download locations can be found on the Unreal Tournament 2003 Website. Word on a Linux patch is that it is to follow soon, but it's possible it will only be released through the auto-updater. Here is the list of what this patch addresses.
- Fixed support for Voodoo3 / Matrox G400.
- Fixed initial framerate hitches in network play.
- Fixed the jittery screen updates in the server browser when sorting by ping.
- Fixed a possible DoS attack in the server code.
- Fixed a few other minor potential crashes.

Sigh... tried everything. It just hates my computer and refuses to install. Time to upgrade the ol' home system... if only I had the money

Wondering what settings you used, if your CPU is holding you that far back,

Well, I can't remember the exact settings, but I had everything cranked up to the max. Hey, I shelled out $400 for a video card, I want everything to look pretty!

Besides, I suck, so low framerates don't impact me so much.

for me it says there's a patch blah, blah. Go to the website and download it. So its not so much auto update as auto notify.

Now I'm fairly sure they said this was at least partly a test of the auto-update so I'd say that for me it failed, but whom to tell?

If you go to 'Play Online', there's a News Tab. It should say 'there's a patch .. blah blah blah', and an "Update" button at bottom right.

That's how it worked for me.

Well, the patch might be "great" and stuff, but it hasent fixed my bug yet...
Each time I sart a new game, I cant see the console, or any other text related icons or graphics, except the 3d environment, and my gun. I am then forced to switch on and off the console option again and again, until the console and text magically turns up again after 9 or 10 times.
it might just be my video card; I'll try downloading more drivers for it.

Catalyst 2.3 drivers for win98 DO exist. you simply use the ones for Windows ME. ATI does not officially release 98 drivers anymore because microsoft won't certify them. however, i have win98se and recently upgraded my radeon 8500 drivers to the new 2.3 catalyst drivers without any problems.

Hey Y'all,

Be advised that if you apply the patch, you will not be able to use 3rd
party maps, or maps from the leak, within the demo. If you try it, be sure
to back up your system and help directories first.

Hmm...I know that one of the sites was comparing results on the 7200 specifically, so it does work. However, I could not tell you about ATI and their drivers, specifically which operating systems they support.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Edit: It was a blurb on http://www.nvmax.com/. Scroll down to the "Unreal Tournament 2003 Notes" entry to see it. I am sure that you could either post a comment for or e-mail (see the comments section) Mike and see if he can help you out.

Trying to remember which site it was :|,

Yeah, ~ stat fps works well, even averages your framerate over the last few seconds. Unfortunately, my home PC has an average of 12 fps, even at lowest detail (which I should expect, given it's only a P3 667mhz). My work computer, on the other hand, an Athlon 1.1ghz, gets zero fps. The installer bombs out, claiming I've got no video card. Guess it doesn't like my Radeon 7200. I know, the UT site recommends I upgrade to the Catalyst 2.3 drivers. Too bad they didn't MAKE those drivers for Win98. Guess I'm SOL till I upgrade my home PC.

#15, pre-patch, myself and some guildies were on our server testing things out. The alt fire directed pass was bugged and would only work while certain weapons were selected/not-selected.

Although fairly obvious, realize that there are two sets of benchmarks; those with bots/sounds and those without.

I get anywhere from 50FPS to 130FPS depending on the version that I use.

Wondering what settings you used, if your CPU is holding you that far back,

If you can, run your P4 at 2.4; I would expect that you will get a nice performance increase, more than you realize. Not, you know, that getting a 9700 would not be the biggest increase.

Well, perhaps you're right. When I initially put the 1.8 in my main machine I ran benchmarks at both 1.8 and 2.4GHz, and though there was a clear difference, in actual games it was barely noticeable.

There is however another reason I haven't overclocked it permanently - I removed the northbridge fan from my motherboard because it started whining a while ago, and though I've bought a Zalman motherboard cooler to replace it I haven't got around to fitting it yet because it involves removing the motherboard (and therefore almost everything else) to fit it from underneath, and I just can't be arsed
Overclocking without a northbridge cooler would be silly.
