UT2003 Demo Patch Planned

The Unreal Technology Website features an update from Epic's Tim Sweeney discussing some important issues regarding the just-released demo for Unreal Tournament 2003. Contained therein is the news that a small patch is expected today, which will provide the first real-world test of their in-game update feature while addressing a number of reported bugs. The post also describes how DirectX 8.1b is required for the demo, that the in-game server browser bug caused by the flood of users should be fixed now from the server side, tips for server admins running multiple servers on one machine, that the recent master server downtime was caused by its move to a faster machine, that the stats tracking system will come online today, an admission that joystick support still needs work, and more. Additionally, a couple of forum posts (thanks HomeLan Fed) highlight other fixes in the works, this one by Mark Rein admits that they accidentally broke support for Voodoo-based accelerators and that today's patch will address this, and this post by CliffyB acknowledges the dislike many have expressed with the sports announcer voices, describing new options the game will offer to control announcements, while providing a workaround to disable the announcer in the demo for now.

First of all i have enjoyed the Battlefield 1942 and UT 2k3 demos about the same.
what i wanna say is that MOHAA has ugly graphics. dont disagree with me yet, just go back and play it after playing battlefield or unreal tourny and you will see that it's weapon models are a lot worse than DOD. im not joking.
well i hope that they will fix the bugs with my radeon in the new patch (that nvidia thing at the beginning scares me and i think they will secretly not support ATI cards)fixes my problem were i cant see shit in any level besides for bombing run.

At this point, I think it comes down to marketing. The game was supposed to ship much earlier, but then there was all the brouhaha over which game offered what (a.k.a. cutting out the multiplayer aspect) and it seemed like Unreal II got pushed back to make way for UT2K3. Now, it is just a matter of how much they want to add to the game, how close they want to release it to UT2K3, and how badly they want to make the fabled Christmas shopping season.

I would still bet on a late '02 release for the Christmas reason, but there has already been a mass exodus of titles to '03.

Able to give you the official "unofficial" dates at least :D,

You can find the benchmarks in your UT2003\Benchmark folder. You should see two different sets of files to run; the "flyby" ones that are of just the level and the "botmatch" ones that are the levels with sounds and bots enabled. Once they are completed, they will either create or add to (if already created) two text files with your results. Also, you can look in the UT2003\Benchmark\Results folder for even more information.

Finally, you can view your in-game FPS (current and average) by entering the command "stat fps" in the console.

Well, 'bout a year or so ago, I picked up Operation Flashpoint. That's the most fun and excitement I've ever had in MP. Before then it was mainly Quake1 TF, Action Quake2, and Half-Life mods, like CS and AHL.

It's fairly easy to make missions for opflash, so I made a few and still haven't tired of the game after all this time. I tried BF1942, which has some cool points, but flying an airplane without a joystick sucks. Also, it's strange, but I'll get hit by a tank mortar shell or a rocket and live. Other times I'll get hit by a single bullet and die! Also, 9 times out of 10, it seems I'll just die for no reason. I won't hear a bullet or anything. I think there must be severe lag issues that cause it, although I haven't noticed any lag insofar as movement goes.

UT2K3 seems ok, but it's just too much like Quake3 for me to enjoy. Opflash offers exactly what I want--slower, more methodical team-based action.

I tried Ghost Recon as well, but the interface is really lousy. You have to hunt around for an icon just to tell what weapon you're carrying, and it feels like you're floating around with a reticle in the air.

If BF1942 gets better with the lag issues, then it might be worth picking up. Really, once you've played games with vehicles in them, it's awfully hard, at least for me, to go back to enjoying small, claustrophobic enclosed levels with no vehicles.

Thanks. Wow, that's really sucky/annoying for NAT'd users whose IP changes. We looked around the UI, but couldn't find an easy way to just enter the IP of a server you wanted to connect to. Nothing in the readme either.

Is there a console command that does this? It'd be quicker than checking a shortcut's properties, or building a "Run" command each time.

Give us a break will ya?!? Who gives a rats rear end if you like BF1942 better than UT2k3??? Many of of us have been waiting for UT2k3 because we LIKE the UT franchise. Has it changed? Yup! I think it has changed for the better. Reflecting a more modern gamin approach, look and feel. Don't like it? Too bad. Buy BF1942, which looks like MOHAA with vehicles to me. Or any other number of WWII military games out there. UT2k3 is a FPS. Get it? Not a mixed up FPS with strategy and Role playing thrown into the mix. I'll take UT2k3 anyday over BF1942, but that is just my humble opinion.

Does the demo contain the final bot AI? I was fooling around with it a bit yesterday and bots, at least the ones on my team, are really...er...stupid. When multi-tasking, they failed miserably. Even when I had all of them working on one aspect (get the flag, protect the flag, etc.)

I understand that they are just bots and will never equal, at least hopefully not :D, the intelligence of the average player, but there was a big disparity between the bots on my team and the bots on the other team. Playing CTF, I would have to grab the flag, go hunt down the enemy with the flag (this was when the whole team was set to defense), and then proceed back to my base to cap the flag.

I noticed it most while they were defending, what I primarily had them do, but they pretty much failed at that completely and there were a number of times when they would position themselves in defensive areas around the flag room.....completely ignoring that the flag was already out of base.

They aren't complete idiots, but they do not seem as organized as the other team and I have to babysit them even more than I did in the first UT. Likewise, this problem becomes even more apparent as you increase the so-called skill level.

Wondering if they will delay to tweak or ship "as is,"

Ahh yes, the olds doom days when network cards were too expensive to buy, so you used serial cables! Oh those were fun, hours spend fiddleing away trying to get it work...lol. Ahh well yeah those were fun and all, but regardless of "class'" or not, it's still death match.

Half-Life, or CS, I could never get into either one of those games. Even though I have the boxs of CS and HL from when I was working at a computer store. Atleast I didn't have to pay for it

#38, well that's a toughy. With a cable modem I don't really notice any types of hickups or anything. It's run pretty nice and smooth since the day I got it in december.

This is prolly really stupid..but how would UT03 run on a Athlon900/3something PC-133 SDRAM/Voodoo 5500 AGP? I know, I need to upgrade but I'm extremely broke...
