The file clocks in at 97.7 MB, and features four maps (two deathmatch, one CTF, and one Bombing Run), along with a single player model. No, chance was right.

Yes, buckets of sarcasm, but that didn't change the tone of the post at all.

You dont like the game, fine, no problem.

Just stop trying to make it seem like you are the king and Digital Extremes should bow to your every whim. I'm sick of the 'It sucks' attitude, as opposed to the REAL reason: 'I dont like it'. Sure, if it was that simple I could probably just relate 'It sucks' to 'I dont like it'... but then people go and say things like "a game that will be on the bargain bin shelves faster than an I-mac."

As chance said, you proved my point while completly missing it at the same time. Congratulations, you get a cookie. I found it under the couch.

[edit] And just for the record, and because I have a thing for proving people wrong while intentionally missing the point, I got rejected for a job as Maccas.

But I got accepted for a higher pay job, go figure!

I suggest you re-read his post. It was dripping with sarcasm and intended to insult anyone that was against the game.

I'm glad you like a game that will be on the bargain bin shelves faster than an I-mac.

Well Zephalephelah, PlayfulPuppy commented on the style of negative posts some people are making... and you proved him right. Congratulations. Then he expressed an opinion. Politely. Time to express mine: I like it. Sorry if that bothers you.

So essentially PlayfulPuppy, what you are saying is that since you liked it we are stupid for not liking it. I mean basically all you say is that people who don't like it are idiots, but "personally" you liked it. You might want to take a look at how many people that have tried it have said it sucks. Maybe it's less a minority opinion and more the fact of the matter. IT SUCKS!!!

Don't blow your whole McDonald's paycheck on it. It will be in the bargain bin in no time.

I am getting a low ping (around 50) but the game feels so laggy... I don't think framerate is the problem either.. it's smooth to run around the levels and everything, but the players and projectiles seem to move in a really strange erratic way. Maybe it's just the pace of the game, but I don't like it. Feels like playing a game of Quakeworld on a 33.6 modem or something.. The guns look too similar to each other as well.

It's very pretty though, especially the outdoors stuff.

Oh well, back to Q3A I guess.

" I giggle at the fact that it's mostly UT hardcore fans who are saying UT2003 is shit."

Actually, I thought UT was a piece of shit, but UT2003 takes the concept of "shit" to a whole different level. I had to uninstall the demo because it was stinking up my hard drive so badly that my neighbors were complaining.

I giggle at the fact that it's mostly UT hardcore fans who are saying UT2003 is shit. You have one crowd that wanted a completly different game, then you have the other crowd that wanted to buy UT in a shiny new package.

What I dont get is why when people dont like a game they proclaim it in such a manner as if they're trying to say: "I HAVE MADE A REVELATION! This game is crap! These are the reasons why; You must agree or you're crap too!" (Of course, a real post would have a lot more abbreviations).

Why cant people learn to say "I dont like it" instead of "It sucks"?

Oh yeah, this is the internet. IQ subtraction is mandatory.

But personally I thought UT2003 was awesome, they've really fine-tuned the gaming experience. Sure, most of the changes to the gameplay weren't incredibly obvious, but it's the subtle changes that really made the game shine in my opinion. The Shock rifle has a really good 'feel' to it now, and all the weapon models suit their projectiles perfectly (Except I'm a bit dubious on the Link Gun primary fire animation, and the bombing run launcher). But, on the other hand, I agree that the lightning gun needs to be changed, or at least tweaked. It's hard to aim, and it's hard to tell if you hit, barely missed, or quite what.

I cant wait for the full version, and now I have a goddamned job I can get it as soon as it's out! Joy!

Hmm...EBG is usually correct with its gold information; I wonder if they really have not gone gold yet or if the P.R. monkeys gods simply have not made the official release, "allowing" the game to go gold as they do so.

After all, the world would not exist if it were not for P.R. statements saying it did!

Edit: Gamestop is showing this, too:

Wondering if we will have a miraculous announcement in the next day or so,

From the Gone Gold front page on the EB information:

"... Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, stating that the game has not gone gold as of yet."

Gone Gold is usually a good source on this type of stuff.

You're arguing two different points... UT2k3 has better graphics, but the SS2 engine can handle much much larger and more complex areas.

Much has been made of the UT2k3 graphics engine and the great look of the environment and models but is it really any better than Serious Sam 2? Or even its equal? The maps in that game are truly gorgeous, rendered in exquisite detail with vibrant colors, have cohesive themes with great artwork and statuary, and they go on and on practically forever. The animation may not be quite as fluid as UT2k3 but I think the weapons effects are equally realistic.

Compare just one SS2 level with the Anubis map, for example (do you think maybe there was some slight SS2 influence on Anubis?). Yes there is Egyptian architecture, a little bit of desert and some statues. Yes it looks better than UT1. But does it cover about a virtual square mile and have endless rooms and corridors? I know the demo is said to have less texture than the final version but still...

I didn't like this game much at all. The level design is poor and the gameplay is generally boring.

P.S. I wish I had more to post, but I'm a bit busy at the moment.

My point was wondering why people whine about ALL FPS on a thread about a FPS. Not about criticizing or discussing the game. I expect that.

*edit* See post 149 for what I mean. I can understand the thought too (despite my FPS addiction), but not why anyone would bother posting it.

I agree on this point, the game is new and the style of play is like all fps games, but dont put it down till the final version is out, and dont pass judgement on the game by playin the demo, you only get a few maps so you can get the feel of it, but i mean you cant shoot it down on demo, try the whole thing then decide. Also, what is so wrong with games gettin more realistic, is that not what you want when you play, or should we go back to the days of 3d games that really look like 2d, I myself want more realism and faster play in all games, a shooter is a shooter true, but you dont win shooters on luck, you got to practice to be good at anything, I have played them all Q1,Q2,Q3,DoD,CS,Doom etc and still play the classics to this day, but back then graphics were poor but skill is timeless, no skill no will. Lets not forget alot of these games would not be possible without huge leaps in graphics cards etc, and I like change in a game like UT2, whats the use of makin the same game without changes to artwork and characters, now that I would not buy, just my 2 cents for what it is worth.

'You know what i'm sick of? People who always voice thier complaints about a quality game.'

Well I agree with most of your post Tony except that bit; it makes no sense. What's even more pointless is a thread of people not debating a game but all agreeing it rocks instead. What I hate is these two:

'The pace is moronic! No one but a twelve year old on crack could play this game well. You have to get lucky or use splash damage.'

If you're not prepared to put in the effort of practice and logical strategy to win, you shouldn't bother playing multiplayer games. I'm 23 and I don't take crack; I win some I lose some and usually do well when I'm trying.

'They are just looking to make some more money while being lazy.'

I've heard this a few times now, it's nothing but sheer stupidity and ignorance. Try and make a 3d engine and also try and make one that's more immersive, faster and more functional than any other made so far by the human race. Also develop a completely functional toolset for the engine. Then listen to people calling you lazy when you're done.

UT2k3 might not be the game for you but yeh, it is a showcase for the engine; if you don't like it it's because the gameplay isn't for you. There are literaly scores of other games in development using this engine and any one of them could be the best game ever in your opinion.

I was looking forward to this game quite a bit. I understand that the graphics are toned-down for space reasons. But even if they were 4 times as good, it wouldn’t matter. This game sucks!!!

The pace is moronic! No one but a twelve year old on crack could play this game well. You have to get lucky or use splash damage.

The graphics might as well be 10,000 times better, because you won’t be looking at them, you’ll be too busy looking for enemies to enjoy any eye candy because people can run faster than Sammy Hagar can drive.

There is no innovation. The original Unreal Tournament redefined what a multiplayer game could be and captured crowds of people who enjoyed instagib and the awesome scenery of the game arenas. There’s nothing really new here at all. They are just looking to make some more money while being lazy. And again, with the pace, you won’t even be looking at the graphics and sighing to yourself saying, this game is so awesome. No, you’ll be concentrating on the screen, looking for tiny dots that suddenly become players shooting at you, and you’ll go into dizzying run around eachother fights that made X-wing vs. Tie fighter suck like a five dollar whore on dollar night.

THIS GAME IS A LOSER!!!! 1 Star, for actually completing it, even if it does suck.

Hey Tony!!! Got to admit I've always wondered what people get out of posting the "I hate this type of game" thing on a thread dedicated to that type of game. I mean, why bother? The satisfaction must be rather obscure... I don't see it. Waste of time I'd think. Find a game you do like and post on it / play it. Life's too short. And yeah, UT2k3 rocks

*edit* Because I can and I continue to think, yes people, even while posting... I'm talented. I can walk and talk at the same time too.
