Xymph's Finale

It's a very sad day here at the Blue Tower, as we must say farewell to Frans. There will be plenty of time for me for me to reflect upon this here, so in the meantime, I'll let him take center stage to take a well-deserved curtain call in his own words:

"Hello, I must be going..."

It was a little over three years ago that Blue sent me an email inquiring after my availability and interest in becoming a news editor for this here site. It couldn't have come at a better time. I was in the middle of a sabbatical year, had come to the conclusion that becoming involved with a major gaming site was something I really would like to do (and back then that wasn't such an ambitious idea as it is now), and a week later my cable connection was to be installed.

We came to an agreement, and several months of mutual preparation as well as a ritualistic introduction into the Blue's way ;) later, October 27, 1999, became my first day "on the job." I have tremendously enjoyed almost every moment since.

Now it's time to move on. I am pursuing a new opportunity that demands all of my time and energy. Regrettably, that means I must bid Stephen, Furn, this site and its readers a fond fondue (as Blue likes to say).

I am very grateful for being given the chance to make a contribution, for everything I've learned, and for the nearly three years of very amicable co-operation and just plain fun, and will certainly miss working here. I won't be far away and will keep checking the site, and hopefully we can work together again sometime in the future.
Best of luck, Stephen.

Tot ziens! :)

Play Time: The Doo-boy (Flash required). Thanks Frottage.
Story of the Day: $90,480 ham. Thanks TJZ-HuT.
Follow-ups: Mom faces reduced charge in sunburn. Thanks Reddog.
IWT Bans RIAA From Accessing Its Network. Thanks Mike Martinez.

I would just like to clarify, since it was brought up earlier in this thread as well, that these two events are completely unrelated.

I wasn't trying to infer that they were related. My point was that Blue's News is going through some pretty big changes right now, related or not.

Xymph (have to get used to that), will we ever find out what your new venture is?

Now Frans heads off in a different direction, a couple of days after the whole registration decision.
I would just like to clarify, since it was brought up earlier in this thread as well, that these two events are completely unrelated. I made the decision to step down early this month, several weeks before the registration decision, and since I support the latter, it wouldn't have been a reason for the former anyway.

Well, lets see...

First we loose Looni, maybe now we'll get him back?

Now Frans heads off in a different direction, a couple of days after the whole registration decision. When was the last time you took a real vacation?

It'd be nice if you would take a couple of minutes out of your day and update the faithfull on your plans for this site. I'll be honest, I'm starting to get a little nervous!

I know you don't like to talk about the future plans you have for this space...mainly because of the long lead times required to implement change around here. Now you have a staff of one and keeping up with the news is going to be hard enough, let alone folding new ideas into the mix. Give us a tease of what is to come before you get snowed under a big ol' pile of hardware reviews.

Picked it in 1994, but the reason why it wasn't used here much is described in this post:

Err... wow.

Thanks everyone for all the kind wishes, It warms this cold-blooded newshound's heart. J/K I really appreciate it. Like I wrote in my note, I won't be that far away and don't mind playing guardian angel from time to time if Stephen needs it. But I hope you'll show your support for him as well, as in many ways he set the standards for this news site that I simply helped apply more consistently, and now he can use all the help anyone can provide.

One question: what will become of 3D Gamers?
It will be fine, as today's updates hopefully demonstrate, and thanks for your concern.

Frans

PS. Yeah, I miss frederickson too.

The others are right, it's a bit of a surprise to see Frans go when it feels like he's still the new guy. Time flies, I suppose, but in this case I wish it wasn't flying by so quickly.

Take care, Frans. Hopefully we'll hear from you often!

Are you just a Hicks fan, or a fan of Tool as well?

Ive been reading Blue's almost every day since before frans came along so in other words i've probably read ALOT of his posts, and since i live in europe, his postings were the "freshest news" to me (sort of),

So, goodbye Frans, and take care!

I guess blue's "Sleeping is overrated" statements are coming back then..

Oh no, does this mean that DOOM3 is going to be delayed?

Also, does this mean that there's now an opening for Head Toilet Scrub Boy? I have excellent qualifications, and I really like beans!

Frans, I'm sure your hard work and professionalism will take you to the top in whatever you choose to do. Plus, even though we've obviously never met, I don't think a person could write three years worth of these updates without some of their personality coming through - and that's what will push you over the top.

So, even though you won't need it... GOOD LUCK!
