Hitman 2 Demo

A playable demo of Hitman 2: Silent Assassin is apparently available on the cover disk of PC Gamer magazine, and has predictably now made its way online at Gamer's Hell. The demo clocks in at a modest 48.4 MB and allows you to try out the first mission in this murderous third-person action game by IO Interactive. Update: More mirrors are online at 3D Gamers, FileShack (registration required) and Tiscali Games.

If you're like me and find that getting the Don to fall off the balcony in one clean shot just doesn't work that often, never fear. As long as he's hanging off somewhat, you're still good to go. Just stand under him and pump a few silenced pistol rounds into him, and he'll slither off the side and fall at your feet. It's a little gruesome, but hey, you're a hitman, not Mr. Clean.

I basically did it in the same way. However I actually stood in the doorway (door opened) and the moment the Don walked in, I strangulated him.
I think it's odd how the coolest / most obvious options don't really work. Killing the postman only gets you so far, the same with the delivery boy.

personally, i think /dev/null's way of doing it is a bit easier, but i did it different.

'form the guard that takes a piss. use ALL of the chloroform. drag him inside, drop the body, take the clothes. now RUN past the kitchen (where the guard is standing outside) staying a bit to the right so you dont alarm the guard by running. go thru the gate to the back yard. now, if you went fast enough, the brother and son will still be by the pool. if not, wait for them to pass then go up the ladder. once atop the roof, cross the plank and go to the 2nd window on your left. wait and watch for the Don to come into his office (or just watch the map for that floor). once he's entered his office and is standing by the table, go in through the door on the right side of the balcony (the one NOT near the plank). pick him off with 1 shot to the head with your SD gun. take the key, exit through the door by the plank, cross the plank, climb down the ladder, go through the gate exiting the back yard, RUN to the basement (again staying at a good distance away from the guard by the kitchen), go into the basement room, leave after the "diana, he aint here" stuff starts, back outside, to the door you came through, (the guard should still be out cold) and head to the exit.

So, you want a REALLY smooth way to ice the don and get out without anyone noticing? Here you go: When you start the level, run down to the area where the guard comes out the door to take a leak. When he comes out, *sneak* up behind him and use the chloroform on him. Just tap the mouse button so you use the least amount possible.
Now drag him through the door and next to the wall so no one will see him. When the guard wakes back up, use ALL the rest of the chloroform on him. Take his cloths. Run to the garage and take the sniper rifle.
Now go back to the place where you started the level on the hill. Place yourself between the rocks to your right and tree to your left. This is the best place to snipe from. When the Don comes out to the balcony to swing at a few balls, only shoot when he is at the swinging spot farthest from you. This is important because he will be a very narrow target, BUT a very dead one soon. If you shoot him in his middle, with a little practice, it will push him just far enough to collapse OVER the spot where there is no railing, sending him to the ground and just out of view of the guards.
Drop the rifle and all guns-in case the guards stop you and frisk you- and run or walk back in through the door hugging the left side of the wall. cut across the lawn to the fallen Don. Usually I have found that it is neccessary to drag the Don back in the corner close to the door that leads to the pool, because no one goes through there.
Grab the key and go back the way you came but to the basement access next to the kitchen door outside. Open cell. Go back outside. Leave through door you originally came into. This is the best way because except for the basement, not once do you enter the mansion. Thus saving you a lot of time and hurt.

This is one damn fine demo, I really like it even though it is somehow buggy. Fine graphics (I like stencil shadows ), excellent gameplay, great ambient soundtrack and an almost infinite replay value. That's the way games should be designed; not emphasizing on one aspect, but shining throughout the whole game.

Having completed the demo in 4 different ways I can now return trying to play through Syberia (what a great game!)

The demo has been working perfectly for me, aside from a couple of crashes. I've completed the demo in 4:10 minutes, 0 alerts, 0 killed and 0 harmed with a "Slilent Assasin" rating. The game doesn't count Don in to the kills. It's really easy once you figure out a route. Just remember NOT to get too close to a guard with your disguise.

I can't get the menu's to work... if i hold down my use key it just repetedly uses the object. It's pretty annoying, since i can't actually drag bodies without first putting on their cloths...

I know how to use the menus, it's that the item one just isn't working for some reason. It's like the keys are too sensitive. It's not me holding down the action button for too long. I mean if I push it a door will be opened and closed again in a fraction of a second. I can't control it. If I hold down the action button so that I can scroll down, It just flickers and does the first option really really (I mean REALLY) fast over and over instead of allowing me to scroll...

The problem is more with the way you are pressing the correct keys incorrectly...

Stealth mode is a toggle, don't hold space bar but press once to enter stealth mode and once more to leave stealth mode (or just start running). Run/Walk is also a toggle, use <Caps Lock> to change between.

When you hold down the <E> key for weapons, use the mouse wheel to scroll to the option you want and then release the <E> key. Do the same when using the <Q> key for interacting with bodies, doors etc.

Possible feature missing from demo?...
Crouch toggle does not work, its just a normal crouch.

I'm probably just stupid but I've been having a problem with selecting an action when there are multiple choices in the box. If I just press the key I have bound, then the first action is done. If I press and hold, the box just flickers really fast and the first action is repeated in quick succession(ie: opening and closing doors). I have the same problem with almost all of my binds. When I push my key for stealth, he crouches and stands up over and over really fast. Does anyone know what might cause this?

Yeah, forget the car. Just walk back to the hills and the mission ends. I loved this demo. I hope all the missions in the full version are this much fun, though I could go for something a bit harder.

I also felt that the other possibilities were a bit weak. I experimented with the postman disguise, delivering the flowers then dashing upstairs when the guard follows the maid, but I'm left with having to kill people when I didn't want to. Strange thing is that this seems like the obvious solution, but its not as good because you have to kill more than your mark.

when i try to play in opengl, the graphics get messed up. now b4 anyone says to just go out and get the newest drivers from nvidia, i have them already. when the guy is at the top of the hill not doing anything it fine, until i move my mouse and then everything leaves trails and before i know it the whole screen is covered. (win xp pro, 256 ddr ram, cel 800) this happens in counterstrrike too and only sometimes in soldier of fortune 2. anyone know how to fix it or is having the same problem? just upgraded and it real friggin anoyying.

Difficulty level was Hard and Rating was Silent Assassin.

The getaway car is a decoy really, it's near impossible to get the keys off the guy who has them without getting detected. I done it the way it was suggested using the walk-in walk-out method (see post #44). It all happens so quickly, they never know anything has taken place until i've reached the exit and long gone.

how'd you get the key to the car? or do you not have to do that on 'hard'?

or do you not need to escape that way? (if not, i've been making it waaaay too hard on myself)

also, did you know that the npc's in the demo dont drown? i 'formed the mailman, dropped him in the pool, and sat there for about 5 minutes. he got up and ran away... o.O

*Spoilers*

I got silent assassin rating in hard, and here is how I did it:

I didn't fool around with the grocier or the postman. Instead I waited for the guard to come out and take a piss outside the third door. I used the cloroform on him (big dose), dragged him inside the compound, and stole his clothes. Then I ran to the basement, and WALKED up both flights of stairs to the top floor. Then I walked out onto the balcony, around the house, and into the SECOND door of the mob boss' office. I fibre wire him, and escape the same way I came, without being seen by anyone.

**Spoilers Within**

Well, I personally enjoyed the demo a great deal (although it did crash several times, this happened only after I died/restarted the level a few times.) I had no trouble getting it to run or any of that none such...

As for the game itself I thought it was enjoyable and I ddi have a good time with the "style" of it. The one thing I disliked was my inability to get in/kill my target/get out in anything that even resembled stealth. Perhaps this was just a result of my stupidity in which case I'd love a few pointers, below are the methods I used..

**True spoilers begin here**
I found 2 reasonable ways to get in to the house and arm myself. One was to kill the delivery man right off the bat, stash the corpse near the exit, place my guns in the grocery's walk inside, deliver the flowers, sneak around and go back into the kitchen.

The other method was simpley to walk over to the grocier, wait for him to come out, and ice him with the beretta. Then I'd drag his corpse off into the hills, take his uniform, and precede to deliver groceries as expected.

Both of these methods put me in essentially the same spot. I was inside, with a gun, not detected by guards, but basically unable to move without being shot at (as I would be moving into areas I wasn't supposed to be in.) The way I beat the mission is by simply killing every guard on the second level, killing the don etc.. etc.. then shooting my way back out. BLAH! Is there a "smoother" way?

I eat pasta!

If you want to complete the level - sneaking might be an option.
If you'r in a disquise - remember not to run - Guards pay alot more attention to you when you do that = They will see through your disguise much quicker.
