Halo Ports Update [Jul 12, 2002, 12:22 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments

Game Studios Announces the Development of "Halo: Combat Evolved" for
the PC and Mac is a press release with the long-awaited official update on
the status of the PC and Macintosh ports of Halo, Bungie's science fiction
shooter. Turns out the game is going from Xbox to Gearbox, as Gearbox Software
is doing the PC port, which is due Summer 2003. The Mac port is being developed
by Westlake Interactive, and is also due sometime in 2003. A skeptic might think
some hints at this had previously been revealed to the folks at MacGamer, where
they have instantaneously posted a two page article called Halo:
I Told You So graciously providing a little face-rubbing to those who said
such a port would never come. The article has quotes from Westlake Interactive
that indicate that they are shooting for a simultaneous release with the PC
version.
I'm pissed because I bought it for the Xbox while under the impression that it would never come out for the PC.
Now that it's coming out for the PC, does Microsoft/Bungie expect me to buy it again? The xbox version is flawed by design because it's on a console - low res, split-screen multiplayer is for kids, especially after you've played multiplayer fps on a pc over a network - and I payed 50 dollars for that one. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay another 50-60 for the same game including the features that should have been in the first release, that should have been on the PC in the first place.
I can't wait to play some multi on the net though on my pirated copy.
And they better have some good facilities in place for mod authors, because vanilla halo deathmatch maps are shit.
