America's Army Patch Soon

The America's Army FAQ has a few new entries about the U.S. Army's Unreal-powered first-person shooter that simulates life as an army of one. In addition to updates about gameplay, the FAQ now offers word on what will be featured in the game's first patch, including networking fixes, a fix for an exploit, and a server pack with a LAN server and a "Global server." It also mentions that this patch should be available quite soon: "The next patch should go into testing on Jul8 or Jul9, and should be available within a few days after that."

I've got a P3 700, old GeForce 256, 256 megs of PC100 RAM, and I've gotta say I've had no problems with performance at all. I was actually kind of shocked, I didn't download it for a while just because I thought I had no chance of running it and it plays fine.

Try updating your drivers? That's all I can think of.

I'm running a PIII 500 and a GeForce2MX400 and the framerates aren't great, but its mostly playable.

The problem is getting on a server, and when you do, you also see half your team floating in the air not moving.

So far this isn't the game that makes me want to upgrade, hopefully it will get better.

I have an Athlon 1.33 and a GeForce 2 GTS with 32 mb of memory. I'm also experiencing rather low framerates, but its playable. To see your fps, type "stat fps" in the console. You can also type "stat net" in the console to display your ping and other connection statistics. I am averaging about 20 fps in open areas at the moment. Guess it's time for a new card soon.....

I was trying to hold off until Doom3 but I may have to upgrade earlier than expected . I was taking Rein's statement at face value... oh well. As far as drivers go I am using 29.42 on XP. Would you recommend others? As far as the fps display go I read somewhere there was a console command but have been unable to find it. Thanks.

that damn connection failed message? I literally tried for about an hour yesterday linking to every homelan server listed- full, empty, or partially full. I got the connection failed msg EVERYTIME. Tried rebooting to no effect. I have no issues with ANY other online games. Is it because of Gayspy I wonder? I dunno...but I had such high hopes for a free game! =/ What can you do I guess...

you can see your framerates in D3D applications by downloading a program called FRAPS I believe...or some other program that displays your FPS...do a search in google.

As far as your low FPS I'd say that it could be your video card, (drivers maybe?) I used to have a geforce2 GTS and now that I have a Ti4600 I could see where my old card was struggling, and it struggled a lot, especially in 32bit color.

I have a PIII 800 w\Geforce 2 GTS. I can run all existing/new games and get decent (at least very playable framesrates). My machine is well sorted and not clutteredd with background operations and I'm not one to whine about fps in new games, except this one, because I'm talking slide show. I asked in another thread for any suggestions and was basically told to get a new machine (thanks for your help anyways?). My point is Mark Rein said any PIII and up with a Geforce can run UT2K3 just fine! So I have 2 questions:
1) Anybody with a similar machine have problems or suggestions, other than buying a new comp?
b) How do I display frame rate in this game (so I can see actual numbers and verify that it isn't my internet connection)? Thanks in advance.

Why is there always some a** on a thread about this game? It's inevitable I guess. *sigh* I had my hopes up for a completely rational thread, all the prior posts were GAME related and then... time for a hearty STFU for anon@68.33

*edit* Oh, Schnapple -- tin foil hat... heh. That was good. It made that off topic post worth reading.

doesn't this game use the original Unreal engine

No, Epic has always just called it "The Unreal Engine" with a build (version?) number. While they're being consistent (and stressing that they don't start all over like id Software does, they're incremental) it does irk some people that they always just call it that. Of course it's easier than saying it's running on the Unreal/Unreal Tournament/Unreal Championship/Unreal Warfare/Unreal Tactics/Unreal Tournament 2K3/Unreal II engine, which the press always screws up and which screws with the public's minds.

do the screenshots look like its unreal? Do you remember Unreal, how shitty it looked.. No this is not the original Unreal engine, its the UT2k3 engine.

thats why all the stories about this game say the popularity is due to its the first UT2k3 engine game to come out (and free).

Over 6 million of our tax dollars wasted.

Imagine how many wedding guests could be blown to smithereens with that much money. You could re-sell the flesh and blood covered cakes at frat party's and at army recruiter's offices.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mark Rein (I think) from Epic had posted that this wasn't representative of UT2003.

I made a little post yesterday on the GameSpy Arcade forums about some of the problems we've picked up. Hope it answers some of your questions.
