America's Army Recon Demo

A bit earlier than anticipated, NVIDIA is the first site to offer downloads of the Recon demo of America's Army: Operations, the free first-person shooter game that was developed by the U.S. Army using the Unreal engine. The Recon demo requires a whopping 203.9 MB download, and offers "four single player basic training missions including a rifle range, obstacle course and weapons course," as well as "six multiplayer missions including a homeland defense operation, urban training, freeing prisoners, and protecting against an act of ecological terrorism." Word from HomeLan Fed is that the login authorization and multiplayer servers are not due to be launched until the original release time of 3:00 AM EDT (midnight PDT) though. Further mirrors can be expected on the official site by that time as well. Update: Mirrors are already online at FilePlanet (registration required) and 3D Gamers.

Don't assume you have me pegged based on one issue I chose to speak about. Blindly patriotic? Not on your life. I fact, we better all start worrying about the laws that are being passed under the guise of "homeland security" that are chipping away at our rights. Be worried that we kept a man PUBLICALLY in custody without charging him because he was an "enemy combatant". Anyone can acquire that label. Anyone. Be concerned about things like “Good Faith Search Warrants” and surveillance that doesn’t require a court order. Be aware of the fact that Windows OS has NSA back doors keys in it and that laws are being passed that allow the government to hack into your machine without a search warrant. Think about the fact that the things you say on this very board might be profiled and get you a nice little file at the Office of Homeland Security.

I don’t expect any of you to agree with me 100%, I just want you to start making yourself more aware. Actually, when you get into it, it’s really easy to spot the propaganda in our own media.

Blind patriotism is just plain stupid. While I do support my country as much as possible, I still look out for those in high places that are working to further there own agendas, and will use human lives to do so.

To Rosco:
I live in Southern (more central coast) California now but I was from the Lacrosse area, Vernon County near Viroqua. I will say, too, that many states treated indians much better than a lot of others. Its just like the Mexicans out here in California. Certain elements of California and border states profited from the misstreatment of the Mexicans. But most people never. SO, they offer many funds for school, manyjobs, and many social coverages in the papers and all for Mexicans, when most white people (especially me, bieng originally from Wisconsin) have never taken anything from the Mexicans, or the Blacks either. My family fought for the Union, and many men in my family died. But, I am sure, black people would look at me as if I had been decendants of slave owners, whether or not I am just walking down the street.

Those figures are highly inflated and they are as much propaganda as the other crap reports to come from that source. At worst, our gas prices would rise. At least we wouldn't have any reason to deal with the destructive Middle East.

Keep trying.

BTW...the hyphen was for emphasis, smarty.

Dont think so, I believe I got just marksman and went to next training level, seems there are some issues with that,

Also at the end of the shooting range it asks you "do you want to upload these stats" or someting similar, you have to say YES then it will validate and you can go onto the next one

#234....that is correct, I was talking only of personal experience in my original post with what i have seen with my own two eyes here in Wisconsin and the surrounding states. I'm just saying that they were able to make a bad situation good (with the help of a native american lawyer who found a few law loopholes and such and so they were the only people who could make casinos at the time.)

And the college thing, if they WANT to go to college they get scholarships and grants from the state they live in and the tribe they are a member of.

So, please, before we resort to all-out name calling and bashing lets take a little time to consider what a person really said and the true meaning of their point they were trying to get across.

The Western reservations are horrible. I agree. I never said they were not. I said that native americans are the richest minority, because there arent many of them compared to other minorities, but they do have A LOT of money (in the east) which makes them, percentage wise, the wealthiest minorities. You can look that one up....

So, what Im trying to say is....stop getting angry. It's a message board for a video game.

#229 post....I was just using Native Americans as an example, at least we acknowledge them, I was trying to say, unlike the Germans...I agree they are treated poorly, but where I live (My relatives ARE native american, including MEMEMEMEMEMEMEME, heh) but not very isnt too good out in Wisconsin either, BUT the casinos make up for that. Like I said, you have NO idea how much money they make with the casinos, it is mind blowing. So where ever you got YOUR information I would like to know, considering I have been on reservations and my uncle in law is a full blooded native american (I have a little blood in me), but yes, out West, it is not too good, just watch the movie Thunderheart, that depicts the conditions out there better, in Wisconsin...its different. These casinos somehow get big name musicians to come and preform in their casinos, in somewhat small towns, such as Green Bay, Wi. Showing up to these things would be really hurtful to artists careers, considering its a casino in a small town, but guess what they STILL show up. You know why? MONEY. LOT'S OF MONEY. I'm really happy that the native americans have this too, it's nice to see them making so much money on these people around here. It's a pretty good payback. =)

Term, we're all entitled to our own opinions here in the U.S. and so are you - and I agree with most of your points.

That being said, you can't have it both ways:

And I agree with Widukind by saying that there's absolutely no reason for being proud of anything in the stolen land you're living in.

Being a german I know what it means to be blamed for the faults of our forefathers, even if it's more then 50 years ago

So which is it? You say you mostly like America but don't think we should be proud of our country. If I'm to be held accountable for the stolen land I live on then why wouldn't I be right in blaming you for allowing Hitler to do his thing?

Of course just because you're German doesn't make you any closer to being a Nazi than being American makes me an Indian killer. Why don't we just agree that if everyone were to just take responsibility for their own actions we'd all be better off.

Personally I hope everyone has at least some reason to be proud of the country that they live in.

*** As usual, I could be wrong. But really, what are the odds of that happening twice? ***

Did I say all native americans were rich? A lot of them live in poverty still, BUT, I said they are the richest minority (percentage wise), stop twisting my words, and try and find the real meaning of the words I use before you "tear em up" heh. Nice try at a comeback, by the way.

Hey,to the guy from Wisconsin.... where do you live in Wisconsin? Heh heh. (I live in Wisconsin, too).

Also, and I just have to add this one thing....Why do you think that Saddam and Osama have the opinion that they do on the US? Because they're jealous of our lifestyle? Wake UP!

Everthing has to do with oil embargos in Iraq or the Saudi oil family that OPEC has been getting it's oil from in Saudi Arabia that Bin Laden wanted to take out of power because they brought US troops in.

Also, how do you think that what the US is doing right now as far as this war is going to make any difference when all of those kids that you saw on TV burning American flags and clapping and jumping up and down for joy that the World Trade Center was hit are going to grow up seeing their families and friends die from US bombs? You want to talk about foreign policy, we're way beyond negotiations for a cease fire. Bush has trashed and foreign policy that we had.

#235 See, it's people like you I was talking about and who scare me: uninformed, blindly patriotic and full of phrases. In case you don't know (and I bet you don't): most of the 9/11 terrorists have been living and educated here in germany, so much for us not being aware of the threat.

I don't know the solution to the current problem of terrorism, but the mindless US rampage surely ain't the right one, at least not anymore. And the "International War Crimes Court bullshit", as you put it, is just a plan to avoid this form of stupid activism. The US claims the right to jump into any country of the world and bomb it as soon as they disagree with the things going on there (not only talking about Afghanistan here), but the whole rest of the civilised world shouldn't be able to prevent the US from violating human rights? Sheesh, that's the most scaring position I've heard in a long time! Would someone from the US please dismantle this argumentation so I can keep faith in a good coming along with your uber-country in the future?

Undereducated is not hyphenated. Also, here is the reason that the US doesn't use Russian oil instead of wanting Middle Eastern oil.
It's not profitable. Now what was that you were saying about someone being uneducated?

235. Re: Whiney Eurotrash Jul 6, 2002, 15:52 anon@24.234
This "International War Crimes Court" BS is a very bad idea. If you can't see that as an American, then you better do some research. Shouldn't take long for you to figure out that the European liberals just want to attack the US with WAY too much global authority. I can already picture them trying to idict our military officers and/or President because they don't like a war we happen to be fighting at that moment in time.

Most European countries are totally against war of any kind, even when it is the only alternative to being wiped off the face of the earth. Why? Because they don't have the Arab nations of the middle east blowing up buildings and threatening to NUKE major cities the first chance they get. They also don't realize that if Osama or Saddam were able to vaporize the United States completely with a push of a button, they would do it, then they would start looking at UK and EUROPEAN targets to vaporize. Don't you get it? They don't want ANY of us breathing. Not Americans, Australians, Germans, Norwegians, English, Italians, Greek, Russians, Canadians, etc. None of us.

No no, it's way too easy for these other countries to sit back and call us war mongers while we are busy trying to rid the world of Islamic Militants who want all non-muslims DEAD. This includes you, EUROPE. You just aren't the focus of their attack TODAY.

Nobody WANTS war. You all keep talking about oil as if it is the only reason we are down there. You probably don't know this, because most of you are extremely under-educated, especially in global matters, but Russia has more untapped oil than the middle east ever dreamed of. We really don't "NEED" Arab oil. Sure it's convenient because it is already being tapped and it's always part of our strategy, but the fact is, we are more worried about a prick like Osama getting a tactical nuke into New Nork, LA, Seattle, Las Vegas, Kansan City, etc. at this point. I believe it might happen. I believe we might just see nuclear detonation on American soil in my life time. Which city will it be in? Yours? Your parents? Your Grand Parents? Who knows? I for one am happy that we are out there trying to find these extremist bastards today, rather than waiting for something HUGE like this to happen. If you think these suicide bombers would hesitate to devistate millions of people at a time, you are wrong. So, think about that while you are sitting back talking about what war mongers we Americans are. We know our foreign policy isn't perfect, but we are only human.

Well I will agree with you there. Those indian reservations in NM, AZ, and NV are really impoverished, such as the reservation in Gallup....Now for the real low down..

I am from Wisconsin (which originally was mostly french interaction with indians, hence the more laxed relationship) and there are many rich tribes there, especially in Minnesota. They DO have opulent communities with fine brand new homes, boats, new trucks, and educational opportunities. Unfortunately, as a affirmation of what I have known most of my life, Southern and Southwestern US is different, as with areas of hte East coast. It goes the full gambit though, Women, Blacks, Indians. Just becuase u think USA doesnt mean that you are speaking of the entire country. I have always felt that the Northern and Central states were respective of "Minorities" and that the south and such were not.

233. Re: Wow. Jul 6, 2002, 15:33 anon@64.219
You're right about the indians not being rich communities, they're having to branch out from casinos to golf courses and resort type spas in order to bring in money from the people who don't want to be associated with the gambling. Here's an article:,2933,57052,00.html .
But the worst thing about it is they have to go from being a peaceful earth loving race to running casinos and they've lost alot of their culture having to adapt to American society.

(Disclaimer: this post is only targetted towards the ignorant and arrogant US citizens posting here, so everyone else (read: people with a common sense, regardless of their origin) shouldn't bother)

*Sigh* I thought I might get off with saying that there's no need to argue any further about this topic but obviously it's not. The one reason I still reply is that I would like to further participate in this board and therefor don't want such a bad start with the other regulars.

"The problem is you are some loser with a chip on your shoulder and you are jealous of people in a country that have national pride. Like most europeans you just want to kick back and critique others in the world who are trying to make a difference."

If you read through any of my posts (which you and most other repliers obviously didn't (yes, you may take that as an insult)), you would've noticed that I'm not jealous or proud of anything your, mine or any other country in the world "achieved". You folks are individuals just like me and I absolutely see no sense in speaking for your country as if you would affect the way it acts. As long as playing videogames doesn't qualify us as competent leaders I'm afraid we won't change much about the way our governments rule our countries. So what should I be proud of? See, it's just stupid and makes one look as if there's nothing in your real life to be proud of, so you worship your country instead.

And if you read further you would've noticed that I mentioned a couple of times how much I like America in general. Hell, I work for a Dallas-based game company, so after all you pay my living (I bet you hate that fact, eh? :))! I also agree with your current "war against terrorism", even if the line between 'useful' and 'slaughter' is very thin on that topic.

The only point I wanted to make is that you US peeps should at least take a look over the fence and learn before bashing on everything 'non-american'. In a global world like ours it's just plain stupid to think 'you' as the US are any better, different or worth more than any other country in the world. Even if that sounds way too philosophical, but in the end it is people we're talking about in here and you as individuals wouldn't be worth anything more or less if you were born in Pakistan instead of Maryland.

And the one thing I want to clarify for Tony is that I never spoke about socialist countries, dictatorship or countries ruled by terrorism. Even is this might be new for you, most european countries are highly democratic, a lot more than the US I might add (at least our governments are ruled by the person who really gets the most votes at the end of an election, hail Florida! :)). Anyhow, I'm all against terrorism and I appreciate the "good will" of the US to act as the world police, even though I think it's not done for the sake of the planet but rather for selfish interests.

But the one single point I wanted to make in the end is that I'd rather prefer to hear opinions about this topic and discuss it with people who try at least to inform themselves before yelling around. And what I've read in this thread about Europe/non-America until I popped in was just uninformed trash from stupid US wannabes. My point in a nutshell: argue with me, but read some books before you do.

Oh, and now I'm finally really interested in finding out who I stole my country from? Please tell me because my history books tell me that my family and I live here as long as history notes go back. So who did I steal it from... the dinosaurs?

Back to topic: when entering the obstacle course, my controls go wild and I can't look up or down anymore, all other training units work fine. Any ideas?

Oh COme on!!!! Lie to me a little more, GIRLY BOY!!! I heard every man in Germany wears LederHosen!!! Just Kidding

In all serious, I must say that Germany and the Northern and Central states of the USA are not that different. In my home county in Wisconsin (although I live in california now) 52 percent of the citizens have german blood in them. Many Norwegiens, Poles, and Dutch too, as well as Swedes. I think its time we all get down to the task at hand, and remember what we can of our past, good and bad.

Yes, we did steal land from the Native Americans, but did you know that now they are the RICHEST minority in America? Do you have any idea how much money they make with casinos? Its astronomical. Plus, they can go to any college in there state for FREE. We had a war with the Native Americans, we won, and now we treat them as equals and everything is a lot better.

The good thing about the internet is that anyone can talk out their ass as if it were the absolute truth (and most probably even believe it, too!). I really want to know where you got your information from on how the Native Americans are the richest minority and how they can go to any college in their state for free. I want to know where this information came from, because it is complete, absolute crap. I have to imagine that you live nowhere near an indian reservation and have only read about them in some inaccurate book (they aren't the opulent paradises that you might think for them being the "RICHEST minority in America"). Everything is not better with the native american communites now that "we treat them as equals", unfortunately, and if you knew anything about current life on a reservation and the economic and social status of many of the individuals there (a lot is due to rampant alcoholism--but of course you wouldn't know about such a real issue) then you'd know that native americans aren't living in some sort of utopia as you paint it to be. I would go into more detail but there's not much point for me to do so--come to the southwest and visit some of the indian reservations sometimes and talk to the people about discrimination and the available opportunities for schooling (and the realistic practicalities of supposed "opportunities" like free college).

I am speaking about reservations and native american populations in the west and southwest. Sorry if the east cost reservations really are utopias. Maybe i've just been unfortunate enough to be involved in the less opulent communities.

well thats enough of that. please respond so I can counter your opinions yet again. =)

If your argument countering involves completely making things up like this, I think you'll win every time. Good for you!
