Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project Demo

Sunstorm, ARUSH and 3D Realms have released a playable demo of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, their recent 3D platform action game, for download from the official site and 3D Realms. The 50.3 MB download contains the entire first episode called Rooftop Rebellion, complete with "3 sections, 4 powerful weapons, enemies such as PigCops, FemMechs and HoverMechs, 30 hidden nukes, 3 hot babes waiting to be rescued and one enormous boss fight high over the streets of New York City." Also, a 1.5 MB patch for the editor is available from 3D Realms to fix a problem introduced with the retail v1.01 patch last month.

Here's a thought! Why not finish DNF and stop making these crappy games and bring the 6 or 7 year development to an end.

Firstly, seeing as 3DR didn't contribute anything except for the rights to ARush for this game I doubt DNF lost anything due to it being developed... As much as I'd like to see DNF as well, let's not get irrational.
Secondly, it is actually a fun little game. If anyone's got 50MB to spare and was any sort of fan of the old duke side scrollers, you'll get a good kick out of this. Don't take it too seriously!

WAIT A DARN SECOND!

Wasn't 3DR quoted as saying that they weren't going to produce a demo for this game because of it being more of a "budget title"? Or am I thinking of another game from another company....hmmm

I recall the exact same thing. Glad they came to their senses.

Quite a fun game. It gets more interesting (more depth, better secrets) after the levels in the demo, so don't worry about that being "all there is".

Oh and George, login for goodness sake if it really is you.

3drealms indirectly helped in the development of manhattan project. they were looking at builds of the game throughout development and helped with lots of suggestions and gameplay tweaks. after all, duke is their property. it's only natural that they are interested in making sure things go well.

and yes, i worked on manhattan project

OK, so if I set it to OpenGL mode, regardless of how I set the preferences, it's sets my monitor refresh to 60Hz. Talk about a quick headache! And when I end the game my desktop is at 60Hz, and I have to reboot to fix it.

If I set it to DirectX mode, the refresh rate is correct, but it plays like crap because DirecX is slow.

Anyone figure out how to make the game display in the correct refresh rate in OpenGL mode?

Here's my config:

AMD Athlon ThunderBird 1.4GHz 'B' (200MHz FSB)
ASUS A7V Mobo (Rev 1.02, Bios 1011, VIA 4-in-1 Driver 4.40aP3)
Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB Pure (Bios 4.25.00.30, NVidia Ref. Drivers 29.42)
Mushkin 128MB Rev3 PC133 222 Memory (x3 for 384MB total)
Maxtor DiamondMax40 30GB ATA100 Hard Disk 53073H6
Creative CD-ROM Blaster 52X CD-ROM Drive CD5233E-N
NEC MultiSync FE950 Display (19")
Netgear FA310TX Ethernet PCI 10/100

'George' has posted several times to these boards. I don't recall him ever logging in. I might take some time and see if the anon@ is the same versus the last time 'George' posted.

You people got that right when you say 3dRealms is clearly not capable of making any games. If you recall, who made the engine for Duke Nukem 3d? 3dRealms? No. I'll tell you who, some *kid* (at the time) named Silverman, he did the bulk of the programming. George Broussard and the rest of 3dRealms needs to stop eating donuts and start coding the game. Broussard is a fat lazy slob, ok, he's not worse than Romero, and not nearly as STUPID as Romero, but he's still a fat S L O B nonetheless.

How many FANTASTIC games have come out and gone through their entire development phase in like 1/4th the time Duke Nukem Foreverandaday's been in developement? Many, MANY great games.

Forget it 3drealms, just keep feeding your fat faces with pizza, don't bother finishing the game, it's a little too late now, the game will be outdated and PATHETIC *IF* it ever comes out. Daikatana anyone?

3drealms? PPPFFFTTT!!! Dream on fatboy.

That is all.

This is stupid. We paid for that engine and it's development. How is that any different than paying employees to develop it for you? It was a 3D Realms engine and it was only used in 3D Realms games or games we licensed the engine to. So how was it not ours?

Some of you anon boys really need help.

3DR give up now.

By the time 3d Realms feels the Duke Nukem Forever is ready to be released the graphics engine will be so far obselete that they'll have to go back and start over again and another 5 years. Way to go 3D Realms, you really did a job of single-handedly destroying a great franchise.

While it is very easy to filter out the anon posters I wouldn't reccommend it. Some of the anons do contribute.

Although since school let out the dope level has exploded.

By the way, I can't wait to see what you guys bring to the table. At this point you have to be almost sick of working on it. Almost.

Did I say that the engine wasn't yours? I don't remember saying that. Did I say the engine isn't yours because that *kid* developed it? He developed it for you, I'M AWARE OF THAT. He developed it, NOT your company. I'm not disputing whether or not it's your property. We all know it's your property.

My point is, if you aren't able to finish Duke Nukem Forever in the next CENTURY, maybe you'd better hire some 15 year old kid to help you *again*.

Because, obviously, you are behind the power curve buddy. You'd better start implementing some EXTREME PROGRAMMING techniques and fast. In the time it has taken you to this point, you could have developed 10 engines, and you didn't even have to do that, you already licensed the engine, which means, *again*, you didn't do the work that was important in this project. Yet still, it's taken you much, much too long to complete your project.

I can't even believe I'm wasting my time responding to you. Anyway, what *exactly* are you doing posting comments here, shouldn't you be, I don't know, uh, WORKING ON THE GAME?

If you're going to post a comment, for god's sake, post a comment that makes a little sense.
