Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project Demo

Sunstorm, ARUSH and 3D Realms have released a playable demo of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, their recent 3D platform action game, for download from the official site and 3D Realms. The 50.3 MB download contains the entire first episode called Rooftop Rebellion, complete with "3 sections, 4 powerful weapons, enemies such as PigCops, FemMechs and HoverMechs, 30 hidden nukes, 3 hot babes waiting to be rescued and one enormous boss fight high over the streets of New York City." Also, a 1.5 MB patch for the editor is available from 3D Realms to fix a problem introduced with the retail v1.01 patch last month.

I just got done playing through the demo, and it's actually quite fun. I am impressed with how clean the game is. Sunstorm/ARUSH did a good job. I'm not sure if I'll buy it due to too many other games I should be playing, but I think it's worth the price.

We are including a free T-shirt and mouse mat, this should disguise the fact the box is empty.

The bottom line is simply this: DNF has been in development for an unreasonable amount of time. Why? What will it bring to the table that's worth the time and anticipation? Or are you setting yourself up to be the next Daikatana? It's a very real possibility.

"EA is the Destroyer" How tragically true, I've watched far too many of my fave studios turn to utter crap after EA bought them out. Oh and good on you for putting up with the "retard gang" on the forums. Some ppl on here need a vicious beating with the "clue stick"

#26:

>>Maybe it's time for new management in 3d realms. It's surprising that Looking Glass went belly up and had come out with some many great high quality titles and 3drealms has only made a few $19.99 games and is still here.

Maybe it's because of good management?

>>I don't know who owns 3drealms

Me and Scott.

>>but I think a company like EA would do wonders with 3drealms. Companies like Westwood, Origin and Janes have really gotten their acts together since EA absorbed them into their company.

Westwood was fine before EA bought them. In fact, probably better. EA has run Origin into the ground after purchase. It's basically dead. Ultima 9 rushed out, and it could have been one of the best games ever. Ultima Online 2 cancelled. Garriott ousted.

You need to look into things a little more. EA is the Destroyer.

Heh...strange how things work out sometimes. I was in the middle of the (full) game when I took a break and read news of the demo.

No biggie though, its quite a fun little shooter

Although I'll buy DNF like everyone else it still seems more "appropriate" for Duke to be in this type of game. Nothing deep or thought provoking.....just simple side-scrolling fum.

'Asshat' absolutely cracked me up too

However this really needs to be said to a few people around here (it seems to have got worse lately)...it's "would have" and "could have", NOT 'of'! "Would of" not only sounds stupid it makes no sense at all.

Sorry but it was doing my head in. I feel better now

This thread cracked me up. Maybe because I'm drunk, maybe not. Anyways, here's a quick recap, for those who missed it.

Calling someone an 'Asshat' = funny ( i am still laughing ),
George Broussard = cool guy with a cool game who needs to give me a job.

.......or maybe its time for you ridiculous little trolls to stop chasing 3DR employees across the all the worlds goddamn messageboards.

Do you and your kin have any sort of capital invested in the development of this game? Are you George Broussards bastard child and does the success of DNF equate to a hefty alimony check? Are you his 3DR office whore?! What sort of interest do you have in the success or failure of this game?!

So hows this for "management"...Manage your fat ass outta that lazy-boy you call a deskchair, manage to put on yer size 58 pants, manage your ass out the door and to the bus stop, and manage to get a job somewhere that doesnt involve you sitting in front of a computer and compounding OTHER PEOPLES problems with your own tomfoolery. Now 'git!

Maybe it's time for new management in 3d realms. I don't know who owns 3drealms, but I think a company like EA would do wonders with 3drealms. Companies like Westwood, Origin and Janes have really gotten their acts together since EA absorbed them into their company. They release games quickly and on time and high in quality. Developers don't deliver on time they don't get paid. Maybe 3drealms should have someone like EA calling the shots and not whoever is messing up 3drealms with their horrible management skills. It's surprising that Looking Glass went belly up and had come out with some many great high quality titles and 3drealms has only made a few $19.99 games and is still here.

This little side scroller was a pretty good game. I enjoyed it from begining to end. They did a good job in presenting duke, unlike many other 3rd party Duke games.

I think DNMP would be a runnaway hit on any of the consoles...

I have to agree with #20,19,14. If you watch any msg boards you will find that Scott Miller and George have nothing else
to do but post, read posts, make replies, and excuses. They are ALL over many other msg boards.

They took one of the greatest franchises ever, and all it's potential money down the drain. Hell they could of released a few more 'add on' packs and True duke fans would of been happy. Hell even Unreal has gotten 3 games out the door before them. You know I bet Romero would even smirk at the mention of DNF. Atleast his game shipped. And at the current estimate, 3 years faster then Duke. It's a VERY sad time for true duke fans. They should close up shop, and put the liscense up for grabs, so someone with a clue could put out a game.

Maybe the delay is they can't come up with any original one liners for Duke to say since there hasn't been a evil dead movie in a few years. Or the fact that Evil dead game was released, they don't want to get sued.

Either way.. 3dr has been a big disapointment for this one time fan.

Me.

So is that a thumbs up or down? I've played and beat all 3 of the Duke side scroller games, so this might be worth a try. At least its no 100+MB download. Sorry no broadband around here. I'm updated my video drivers and its programs... thats 25MB... 6 to go and then I'll start on the demo.

Trust me, you get stupid post even when people have to log in.

From what I heard the Unreal engine is very easy to upgrade to a new build, so the graphics won't look obselete. Who knows, it might look better then UT2K3. If its as fun as Duke3d its worth the wait.

>This is stupid. We paid for that engine and it's >development. How is that any different than paying >employees to develop it for you? It was a 3D Realms engine >and it was only used in 3D Realms games or games we >licensed the engine to. So how was it not ours?

Did I say that the engine wasn't yours? I don't remember saying that. Did I say the engine isn't yours because that *kid* developed it? He developed it for you, I'M AWARE OF THAT. He developed it, NOT your company. I'm not disputing whether or not it's your property. We all know it's your property.

My point is, if you aren't able to finish Duke Nukem Forever in the next CENTURY, maybe you'd better hire some 15 year old kid to help you *again*.

Because, obviously, you are behind the power curve buddy. You'd better start implementing some EXTREME PROGRAMMING techniques and fast. In the time it has taken you to this point, you could have developed 10 engines, and you didn't even have to do that, you already licensed the engine, which means, *again*, you didn't do the work that was important in this project. Yet still, it's taken you much, much too long to complete your project.

I can't even believe I'm wasting my time responding to you. Anyway, what *exactly* are you doing posting comments here, shouldn't you be, I don't know, uh, WORKING ON THE GAME?

If you're going to post a comment, for god's sake, post a comment that makes a little sense.

Some of you anon boys really need help.

While it is very easy to filter out the anon posters I wouldn't reccommend it. Some of the anons do contribute.

Although since school let out the dope level has exploded.

By the way, I can't wait to see what you guys bring to the table. At this point you have to be almost sick of working on it. Almost.
