Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project Demo

Sunstorm, ARUSH and 3D Realms have released a playable demo of Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project, their recent 3D platform action game, for download from the official site and 3D Realms. The 50.3 MB download contains the entire first episode called Rooftop Rebellion, complete with "3 sections, 4 powerful weapons, enemies such as PigCops, FemMechs and HoverMechs, 30 hidden nukes, 3 hot babes waiting to be rescued and one enormous boss fight high over the streets of New York City." Also, a 1.5 MB patch for the editor is available from 3D Realms to fix a problem introduced with the retail v1.01 patch last month.

stop arguing. it is obvious that George is suffering from a rare yet dangerous ailment. it is called Romeriasis. it is not certain yet, but if the symptoms include hiring a bimbo off the net to.. design maps, then i would really be worried.

peace...

I think it's appalling when a developer comes here and people start flaming him (Or her...). Chances are that all you idiots out there flaming the game will be buying it when it hits the shops. Valve redid Half-Life when it was almost finished. Did it turn out rubbish? Some will argue that it did, but you'll find that most people would disagree. I doubt if George can confirm this, but I do have my suspicions about DNF using the new Unreal engine. Do you want a quality game, or do a want a rushed "BUY TEH GAME AN DOWNLAOD SI TOOHUNDRED PATCHSE TO SO SI WiLL VORK!!!" catastrophe? Why do I like 3D Realms? They haven't tried to cash in on me, the buyer and modder or the developers yet, unlike EA and Sierra. I really do hate it when a developer comes on a board, and then some retards direct all their time to bashing him. Some people actually appreciate talking to them about the progress of their current game and other things... From my exprience, developers are allowed to leave a little note on how things are going without breaking any NDAs.

Manhattan Project was well worth my money. The (old) Duke Nukem games were all I used to play with my old 486. They were fun then, and nothing has changed. The gameplay is still there and they've brought everything else up to today's standards. Yes I'm a raving fanboy, but I'm sure 3d Realms won't make me eat my words when DNF is released :D.

I have to agree to the basic idea here. Its a budget price game thats ok to play, if you are looking for something more then go out and find it. There will always be some guy out there who will say "what the hell??" every time a game hits the shelf because it doesnt have exactly what he expected. If you dont like the way the game is constructed then dont buy it, and it you did buy and got burned, then think more wisely next time. Or you could start your own gamimg company and make your perfect game because believe it or not, those developers out there are not thinking just about you when they cut the code.

I'm posting here (like so many other forums) waistin' my time typing - just like DNF and the developers typing.....

DNF = Did Never Finish....

Just accept it, and play DNMP for what it is - a bloody good fun game to play and for the budget price you can't knock it (and it's the best you will get in tghe DNF series)

I'll just let your childish vulgarity go unanswered.

Which you immediately start to answer anyway, which shows something for your short attention span, no?

Fine, you claim to be a project manager, that still doesn't matter since your job can be eliminated when you have a talented group of programmers that communicate well.

Or is that that you work well with the customers??

If you think DNF is already a complete disaster, fine, shut up about it and start complaining about games you ~do~ care about. What makes you think we have to listen to the opinion of someone that's never going to buy the game. It's like listening to a mime bitch about which model bullhorn he doesn't like

I dont know guys. The last Duke Nukem 3d shooter was released in 1996, thats 6 years ago. If this one ships NEXT year, thats 7 years. If u had your shit together, you could get out of high school the day the last Duke Nukem shooter shipped (not including this side scroller) and have your PHD from medical school by the time you got your sweaty palms on a copy of DNF!!!! Man, that sounds scary!!!

Think about it, here u are, a zit faced geek at 17 or 18 and u get the last Duke Nukem, playing it to your hearts content your "last summer at home" before u are off to college. Now, skip forward, you are driving your BMW home (that you splurged on and bought after you got that tenured position at that fancy clinic), and u pull intot he driveway of your new home (that your wife put the downpayment on, since she assisted you thru medical school). You two little ones run out, and hug you, and you see a Fed Ex package on the floor by the door!! Duke Nukem Forever baby!!!! What memories

Why are people so concerned with rattling the cage? It's not going to make a game come out any quicker.
In fact, when I read all the 'Give it up, 3DR' comments I realize that we as a 'fan-base' are a bunch of whining maggots.
I wonder if George Lucas bothers to even read his mail anymore.

Y'know something? I don't post too many comments on forums or in relation to game material. I pick moments to voice my words, and I think before I hit the submit button, is what I'm posting really worth it? Is what I am about to post going to be read and a response derived? Am I going to be considered a flamer for what I post?

Most 'fans' are (to my experience), poorly educated people who have such an empty life they are hitting refresh on websites in the hopes of new and breaking information. God forbid there is any news, they just HAVE to post their views on it? When honestly, they are nothing more than a single drop in a torrential sea of ignorance.
People, QUIT IT!
Leave the artists be!
I can only imagine what Raphael would have done had he had a 'fan-base' and a forum. Probably gone postal!
When it's done is when it's done, can't deal with it? Hey, it's your hour and they charge a pretty penny to hear you out.

Anonymous persons:
What the hell is with the venom towards 3D Realms? They owe you nothing, and are hurting no one by continuing to work on DNF until it's done. I swear to god, is there anyone left on the net that's not twelve? Seriously, do you little bastards send hate mail to Santa trying to make Xmas come sooner?

3D Realms staff:
Nobody likes a tease, which is really the heart of the issue. Also, nobody likes a mystery, and the length of time DNF has been in development makes the mind boggle at how the company stays afloat. Plus, we've been burned by Star Wars twice since DN3D came out, and then of course there was Daikatana... I guess all I'm saying is people can start to sense now the point when their expectations can't possibly be met, and they are able to develop a backlash against things preemptively. So shake a leg, eh?

Its very bad that Duke Manhatten Project came out for PC...it is totally going to take away from Duke Forever because its true to Duke 3d, unless they release it years after, which by that time the technology will be old and no one will want to play it. BYE BYE 3d REALMS...you guys better be getting a lot off of interest money and money from distribution because you guys are going to die in the water..

<i>Fuck all you wanna-be project managers, you have no fucking clue as to what's in this game or how far along it is.</i>

I'll just let your childish vulgarity go unanswered.

Those of us who have managed software projects (including me) and those who have just worked on them know a train wreck when we see it. Do I know how far along DNF is? It doesn't matter. When you get to the four year stage and the game is still not released, you have an unmanageable mess on your hands.

The state of hardware has changed so dramatically in four years that even the assumptions about that have probably had to be rethought countless times. Back in 1998, a $2000 Gateway PC had a Pentium II running at 400mhz with 64MB of RAM and a 10gb hard drive. Contrast that to the types of system that the average gamer owns today.

So you can be an unrealistic cheerleader for a game that has become the joke of the industry, but those of us who have developed software and headed up development teams know a disaster when we see it.

"Only in the computer gaming world do people hear about a game in development and then start crying like babies when it doesn't land in their laps immediately"

If you think Immediately = 4+ years.. I hate to think
what you would consider a 'long' wait. 100? 150 maybe?

Anyway.. I just think they are giving a bad name to themselves by doing junk like not releasing a game that people actually want to buy in any reasonable amount of time. I bet games like FF X and FF XI took 3 years less to make and are 10x larger!

What are the odds that next year they look at DNF and go 'wow this sucks azz compared to doom, maybe we should be morons and change engines again'. I bet probably pretty good odds.

Still a disapointed fan.. err ex-fan.
As for the comment to my post about reading what they have done with the franchise.. your right.. they did sell alot of 'map packs' back in the day. As for new stuff? uhm anyone else here want a FPS on a PSX? nope.. me either. home console stuff dosn't count for them. They should of sold the 3d FPS liscense to a real PC company. Hey.. the 2d side scroller is a good start.. atleast they let someone else use duke.. maybe soon someone who knows how to ship a game will get it.
