RtCW: Enemy Territory

As reported last week (story), an expansion pack for Return to Castle Wolfenstein was unveiled at E3 with little fanfare and no subtitle. This gap in intelligence has now been closed with the revelation on Activision's official site that the add-on will be called Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The pack is in development at Splash Damage and Mad Doc Software for a late 2002 release.

OK, I hereby acknowledge that RTCW isn't the only game that has these problems, I was in a shitty mood and felt like an argument. For the statements I made towards this, I am sorry. To the Blues regulars, I sank down to troll levels and regret it.

That being said, I believe that my frustrations lie with not the players of RTCW, but the limited types of online gaming it provides. In my opinion, if there were standard DM, where teams were not a factor, this stated problem would mostly alleviate itself. By forcing people to work in teams, the game creates frustration among the, lets say, less than mature players. This in turn, creates a backlash after so many hours of having to put up with n00bs and other general distractions.

In a perfect world, everyone would be on the same note, all players working fully towards a common objective. This unfortunatly happens infrequently at best playing RTCW online, in my opinion. If RTCW were to offer a standard DM mode, with ammo pickups and even perhaps health and armor, I think the team gaming community as a whole would benefit drastically. Those that don't want to have to follow orders (or give them) would have ~their~ servers, while the team-based fans would be left alone to their own devices.

So, to sum it up, all games have their respective contingent of assholes and morons, but all parties would benefit greatly by creating a pure DM mode in RTCW.

I also regret taking so long to get back to this thread, I fear that this response will go largely unread, and StinkyFiddlewinks will from hereon out be labeled a troll. I am not.

Do you not know what a g-string is? That's classic lingerie, not a g-string. I think you're lying about having a wife, or even having seen a woman.

So, was he only referring to that one woman in black lingerie, who runs and cowers in that one room (I've only seen screenshots; not sure if that's her actual behavior). If so, I didn't have a problem with her. Still don't like the Goth chick I saw.

Quicksave is killing games

Totally disagree. I'm not the best player in the world, but I do enjoy games. Nothing is more frustrating to me that dying and having to play the whole level again. If I get particularly lucky and get past a certain point, I save. Only way I can continue. Otherwise, I get frustrated and quit.

If you don't like to quicksave, don't. No one is forcing you to use it.

Err, yes that would be the map that looks like a movie, very pretty, and plays like a game of "roll the dice". Run to cover, quicksave, run to cover, quicksave, run to... I'm sure the almost-random nature of the game here is an incisive commentary on the experience of the D-Day soldiers. If I wanted that I'd have watched Spielberg's effort, which looks a lot more convincing, and lacks the repetition.
Quicksave is killing games. MOHAA is a decorative tombstone.

yeah, i wasn't too huge on the whole 'nazi-chicks with guns' element to the game, it just cheapens history (and women) and it's a part of history where a bit of care and restraint could have been shown. but then, it's a computer game, i guess i shouldn't expect thesis standard argumentation.

for the most part, i was left feeling underwhelmed, but there were some really good set-pieces. a mixed bag.

Umm people, compare MOH Omaha beach map to ANY of the cookie-cutter levels in rtcw and then eat your words!

As for rtcw multiplayer...yawn it's already been done, it's called Team Fortress. Get with the program or ship the fuck out!

Re: multiplayer being a bunch of assholes. Guy's got a point. In SOFII, I think I've heard just about every weapon called a "n00b gun," typically by the person who was just killed by it.

You just have to keep trying until you find a server with a good mix of people.

Nazis with g-strings. That's why I never got this game. I'm not into the mixing of historical eras. I saw the one screenshot of that tatooed Goth chick with the Christina Aguilera stomach jewelry, and I passed. Zombies are one thing; that's just a fantasy element. But, bringing in characters straight out of 2002 kills the whole deal. Let's not even mention the Nazi ninjas.

I liked the single-player campaign but it didn't live up to my expectations. It really seemed to lack something for me. It seemed they wanted to keep using huge maps for no damn reason. Parts of it seemed a tad boring, parts of it are stunningly good.

I only played it a month ago and now that I think of it, only two things about it stick in my mind:

1: Just before end boss, you see some Nazi Blonde wench in a G-String crapping on. I remember this because my wife walked past and noticed the G-String and made some comment which, to my best recollection, was none to complimentary. She normally ignores my game playing.

2: Come out of a tunnel, watch a plane take off, then watch a truck roll up and all the soldiers pile out.

I suppose it's the ultimate remake of the original... not to taxing on the brain, just wander about and kill germans.

I must admit I've not tried the MP section yet, as SP is more my cup of tea. You describing it as "flat" seems a fair assesment to me.

The game wasn't even about Hitler. And how the hell would killing hitler be more realistic than Rob Zombie?

For the record, Wolf 3D's end boss was HItler. I believe he was wearing a large mechanical suit, too.

Was the single player any better than the demo they included in the SP demo? I thought it felt really generic and flat.

Hitler better be the end boss. Any WW2 game where you don't kill Hitler at the end is just a waste.

JUST SAY NO TO ROB ZOMBIE AS THE END BOSS OF A WW2 GAME!

unfortunalty no, we can't. Seems most people would rather post about how rubbish they think a game is instead of anything useful. Do we care what you think of a gaming community if you don't play in it? no. Do we care if you don't have the game installed? No, chances are you didn't buy it anyway. And flame bating is just as bad. This isn't a news post about which is better moh or rtcw, it's a news post about an upcoming addon for rtcw. If you don't like the game or don't have anything constructive to post you could always try keeping the thought to yourself... afterall, we don't care.

Just played through this game last weekend. It's dreadful. They've made the Q3 engine play like a LithTech game, clunky movement, flat lighting, weak effects (except for the mortar explosions, those are pretty good). Totally linear in single player, low polycount maps, the only thing it has going is a few clever set-pieces.

And it's selling like hotcakes. God help us all.
