Jedi Outcast Patch

After a rocky start, LucasArts has now issued a patch for Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, updating Raven's lightsaber wielding 3D action game to version 1.03, although the file link is still wrong so here is the direct ftp link. The 6.8 MB download adds four new multiplayer Duel maps, 3D Sound and Force Feedback support, a few single-player bug fixes, and a batch of multiplayer improvements and corrections.

Actually about JK2 being the most popular game in the US throughout March or April, thats not true, The Sims expansion beat it out even the week of the release and has since. My information is from NPD Techworld who the industry uses to gauge game software sales. The Sims expansion was on top the first week. Get your info straight before you post.

NPD CHART: APRIL 14-20, 2002
Rank / Title / Publisher / Average price
1 / The Sims: Vacation / Electronic Arts / $28
2 / Dungeon Siege / Microsoft / $36
3 / The Sims / Electronic Arts / $41
4 / Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast / LucasArts / $49
5 / The Sims: Hot Date / Electronic Arts / $28
6 / Medal of Honor: Allied Assault / Electronic Arts / $47
7 / Starcraft: Battle Chest / Vivendi Universal / $21
8 / RollerCoaster Tycoon / Infogrames / $22
9 / Spider-Man: The Movie / Activision / $20
10 / Zoo Tycoon / Microsoft / $26

I played through JK2 and played a fair bit of multiplayer, ran a server a few times. Never experienced a single bug, none of my friends have mentioned any bugs either. If you're having sound problems try the openal support instead.

The only annoying thing about it is all those pussies with their no force or sabre only servers. Force powers are the only thing making the multiplayer experience better then other games, and running around with sabres is about as gay as having a chainsaw only quake server.

I have MOHAA, RTCW, JK2 and Q3A itself. none of them are making these 2 second freezes except JK2.

I've had this problem too, but it seems to be a problem with Q3-engine games in general, not just JK2. I can reproduce it everytime if I set the sound quality to high (22khz). I have a SB Live card. Once I lowered the sound quality to 11 khz, I didn't have the crash problem anymore. I've seen this in Q3, Team Arena, RTCW, and JK2 so far.

On a semi-related note, I thought that the "sniper" level was one of the more interesting levels with regards to design, but I found the overall gameplay balance to be quite off.

Then again, I completely ignored the blaster/energy weapons once I got my trusty lightsaber.

Still hopping about Morrowind,

I believe the rocky start Blues is refering to is the release of the patch, not game.
You are correct.

Nope - the patch doesn't fix the freezing problems.
SP works perfectly, but multiplayer freezes, maybe every 20 minutes or so. The sound gets stuck in a loop, and my system stops responding. I have to hit the reset switch.

Multiplayer is running, but its not running well. there is a very big thread on jediknightii.net called "freezing". ppl are getting lockups, freezes and other stuff in SP or MP. I for myself get only freezes and sound loops. sometimes the game locks up when there is a map change and the FPS drop over half when there is a mapchange. need to restart JK2 and it is all good for at least another map. I tried everything incl. all kinds of drivers BIOS setting windows settings etc etc. but since not a single other game I have makes any problems I believe its JK2s fault.

maybe the patch fixed this, but I cant test it, since I only have those freezes in CTF, TDM etc games and I cant find a server which has 1.03 installed.

Multiplayer is that what makes me go mad.

What problems are you having? I couldn't get a server running on my home LAN until I updated the machines video drivers. It would load up, start running and as soon as any combat took place it would crash to the desktop. New video drivers and all is good. The drivers I was using were not that old either so I was suprised to see that they were the problem. Of course the new drivers prevented me from getting the machine to hibernate or go into standby (which corrected itself 2-3 days ago with no intervention from me, strange).

The machine I'm using is pretty average by todays standards:

PIII 933
384 Ram
60 G HD
Geforce 2 GTS

Good luck - the mutliplayer is a real blast.

Just saw that there is no patch for linux dedicated servers out yet. but about 70% of the servers are linux based. so if you install the patch now, you wont find many servers, if any for your prefered game mode. I am unable to find one for CTF or CTY for instance and only about 3 for duel.
good thinking, Raven!

I certainly found it to be free of technical problems - some little performance hitches that were remedied by R-ing TFM...

I find that it's bloody hard work, the combat felt too twitchy in places, not tactical enough, but then I haven't really got that far into the game (just running around Nar Shaddaa getting shot at by assorted evil snipers).

I think the combat dynamic will clear itself up once I get further into the game, but at the moment it's like walking 'round a corner, getting killed, noticing who's where, and then repeating until I can accurately get the first shot off. It's frustrating, but parts of the game are wonderfully rewarding, so it's good on balance.

For the record, I found JKII to be quite problem free (and a great game to boot).

I second that - works great, good level design & story, fun multiplayer.

Hes talking about the massive bugs this game has. Look on the support forums on JediknightII.net. I for myself have massive problems with it too in multiplayer tho my computer should run perfectly with it. and the worst is, this new patch doesnt correct these errors for people. There was no rocky start with Jedi Outcast. It's been the top-selling PC game in American since it's release.

I ran into that AT-ST bug. It looked like one of the missiles that occaisionally fall from the sky killed it, but I didn't actually see it so I donno what happened. When I re-did the level I made sure I didn't get too far ahead of the thing.
