Wolfenstein Server Test

id Software's Christian Antkow updated his .plan with word on a new Return to Castle Wolfenstein dedicated-only server program that's currently undergoing testing, a relatively small (under 30 MB) download which will allow a game server to run on a Win32 machine without the rest of the game data. There is also word on plans for new browser-based server administration tools being created with the assistance of Tony Ray of Even Balance (Punkbuster). Here's how the update wraps-up, where he asks for assistance in pounding on the test servers:
We would *GREATLY* appreciate it if people could bang on the servers for the next day or so to see if any bugs crop up. If it's stable for the next 24 hours or so, I'll go ahead and update my Beach, Ice and Trench Toast Servers.

The two servers currently being tested with the new stuff are at;

192.246.40.45:27960 - Xian's MP_DESTRUCTION Server
192.246.40.45:27961 - Xian's MP_BASE Server

Stats and Forums for my servers are available at;

If anyone encounters any problems with both those servers, please email me at xian@idsoftware.com with any issues.

Lot's of people are running Linux servers right now using the version available off the id FTP site. As is standard for id, I'm sure the Linux version of this dedicated-only version will come out with the Win32 version.

I've been playing with the new 1.31 stuff and having a BLAST. You guys make it sound like you've been given crap and are being ignored by "the man."

Where have we come to when 30 MB is "small"?

Some day we'll all just drown in data....
