Out of the Blue

There are a couple of sad obituaries in the news this morning: Actor Dudley Moore dies at 66 has word that the comic actor has succumbed to the effects of the progressive supranuclear palsy he was afflicted with. While 'Mr. Television,' Milton Berle, dead at 93. Thanks Zdim. I've been meaning to get the DVD of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World since it was recently released, and the idea of paying tribute to Uncle Miltie will no doubt spur me into action on that. Unfortunately, my favorite Dudley Moore project, the original Bedazzled, is not available on DVD. While it doesn't offer the lavish special effects (or the lavish Elizabeth Hurley) from the follow-up, the original version of the deal with the devil comedy, a collaboration with his then-partner Peter Cook, is a classic.

Welcome home, "Battle Group One," who Norfolk, VA resident Pure Evil tell us have returned home after an extended tour of duty.

Play Time: This Wrath of God Game (Flash required). Thanks Goodspeed. Peter Molyneux eat your heart out.

I am starting to feel the void created over the last several days starting to fill again. Though I am concerned that the latest date on the site is from the 28th. It makes me realize how much I've come to rely on Blue's for my gaming entertainment needs. Now all we need is a word of reassurance from Master Blue himself that all is good in the land of blue. . . . .

Thankfully Blues has returned and my life can return to normaility.

I thought Blues had suffered the Easter fate what with the Queen Mother and Dudley Moore.

Very sad to see them pass on, but thankfully Blues' is still jumping out the coffin - if you need some cash to help the site Blue, start up a PayPal account and I'll donate and I'm sure others will.
Regards,

You're missing the point here. The modernist fallacy that fairy tales and superheroes are just for kids has only been with us for about 200 years. Before then, it was recognized that the fantastic was if anything, the most appropriate subject for art. The subtext (in modern parlance) being all-important, rather than the text.

Consider the oldest literature we have - such as the Iliad or the Epic of Gilgamesh. The protagonists are effectively superheroes. The Iliad is about a hero, Achilles gifted with superhuman skills at birth (an "origin story"), and a single vulnerability. Like the best comic books, it works because he's a flawed character. He's like us, only bigger and badder.

If you read Spiderman in this context, it's not really so childish at all. Of course that doesn't mean the movie will rule, but it's Sam Raimi so it probably will

Goodspeed has the solution. Number 8 on that knowledge base post was what I posted about earlier.

In the Run dialog type regsvr32 urlmon.dll , and then click OK .

"I can't recall looking forward to a movie this much in my entire life" someone please tell me this is sarcasm or is this a quote from a 12 year old?

Spiderman looks like a pile of shit, if i was a kid it would be great but most ppl here are older than 12. I think i realise now why hollywood churns out so many bad films cos the average movie watcher is a moron, so they skip the hard part (a good script) and throw in more special effects to compensate, cos morons don’t notice a bad story as long as stuff is constantly being blown up they’re usually happy.

I assume you're using WinXP (at least, I am and I had a similar/same issue), if you're not, might try this anyway

If you think that they'll fuck it up, then I'm guessing that you haven't read a thing about the movie.

They've gone so far as to portray Peter's financial status in the decor and items in his room (he's lower middle class).

Screw Fantastic Four. I want a decent Preacher movie.

I prefer the originals but what is important here is that the directors themselves are the ones opting for the changes. No one made them do this, they were the ones who decided to do it.

I always thought Milton Berle looked like bugs bunny. Like a lot of folks, I first saw him in It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and became an instant fan. Later on it was a hoot to see him doing cameos in The Muppet Movie, Pee Wee's Big Adventure and, particularly, Broadway Danny Rose.

IAM4W, if you haven't seen it, is a massive film, a comedy of epic proportions, dedicated to the time-honored theme of greed. I went to the IMdb for review just now; czech out this cast of comedians:

First, along with Berle's nutty portrayal of the sedative-popping J. Russell Finch, you'll see four other memorably funny performances by Buddy Hackett, Dick Shawn (oh yeah), Jonathan Winters and Jimmy Durante.

The rest of the comedic cast will blow you away as well: Sid Caesar, Ethel Merman, Mickey Rooney, Phil Silvers, Terry-Thomas, Jim Backus, Peter Falk, Paul Ford, Stan Freberg, Leo Gorcey, Sterling Holloway, Edward Everett Horton, Jerry Lewis, Buster Keaton, Don Knotts, Zasu Pitts, Carl Reiner, Arnold Stang, The Three Stooges, Jack Benny and Doodles Weaver. Wow.

Hollywood can't make movies like this anymore.

I heard Steven Spielberg say he cut the guns out because of recent events. I think it's a poor excuse which will totally ruin the atmosphere of the original scene.

Did your search for trojans include running Ad-Aware? Some ad "services" (Gator, for example) plug into IE to replace the ads on web pages with their own. Such an interference might be your problem.

On another note: if you consider switching over to another browser - I recommend Opera. The only browser I have ever used that did not seem like a Beta version

Since when is Drew Barrymore's opinion so important as to influence a director's decision to re-edit his movies?

I don't have any pop-up killer active on my system nor am I running a Virus checker (presently).

Well first, that's not very smart. Get a virus scanner and see if your problem is a virus.

Second, your problem is really that you need to re-register a DLL that's gotten screwed up somehow. I had a similar (the same?) problem on windows XP. If you have windows XP, use the built in error reporting system--it's really an outstanding service from my experience, with less than 24 hours response time (for free).

I'll post what could be the solution to your problem late this evening when I get home, unless someone else knows the DLL to reregister (with regsvr32) off-hand.
