Unreal Name Changes: The Final Chapter

Unreal Tournament 2003 Coming This Summer, Unreal II Arrives for the Holidays is an Infogrames press release with the announcement of the name change for Unreal Tournament II to Unreal Tournament 2003, which was confirmed in a recent message board post by Tim Sweeney (story) after the news of the change first appeared on GameSpot (story). The original report also indicated that Unreal II would also be renamed to Unreal: Episode II, but Tim's post revealed that this was a misunderstanding based on a PR glitch, and this change was still being debated (it can be assumed from this announcement that the opponents of that change won out). The release announces that Unreal Tournament 2003, in production at Digital Extremes, is due this summer and Unreal II, being created by Legend Entertainment, is shipping this fall. Unreal Tournament 2003 is not actually described as a name change, as no title for the shooter follow-up had been formally announced.

Maybe the love triangle has a set, sorted order - boy, girl, boy, girl - oh wait, that's a love square.

Anyhow, call it whatever you want, just get me the damn game (to paraphrase Keyshawn).

Btw Hump, I'm with you, I'll believe a summer release when I have the game in my sweaty hairy palms. There Epic, prove me wrong!

"Really Unreal
Infogrames clarifies the sorted love triangle that is Unreal."

Uh, guys? There's a difference between "sorted" and "sordid". Look 'em up.

I just think they've made a bad call. Unreal Tournament 2003 is just too long winded, doesn't roll off the tongue, and creates more confusion. Think of a new PC gamer in September 2003 - wow Unreal Tournament 2003 - I've always heard about Unreal - I think I'll give it a try it must be new, and two months later Unreal Tournament 2004 is released. Damn, my games out of date!

Think of the parents as well. Especially ordering over the 'phone.

And lastly, Unreal Tournament was based on 2291 or some such far future date, so Unreal Tournament 2003 sounds like a game based around 2003... not so much confusing, but lacks cohesion to the game underneath the long title.

/* thanking god for cut and paste */

JCC

I bet a weeks salary that UT2 will not be shipping "this summer"

what do I base my statement on?....I'm a gamer.
