Global Ops Update

An update to the Global Operations Message Forum (thanks Kicking Myself) by Dan McBride, a producer on the tactical shooter, offers thoughts about their public beta test. After thanking those who've participated, he apologizes for the serious shortage of high quality servers that was caused by unanticipated demand, describes how this has been remedied, explains why some servers may still be laggy, and describes their ongoing attempts to improve the gameplay experience based on user feedback.

Oh yeah, frenzied interest in the first playable demo release of a new FPS is completely unprecedented... <rolls eyes>

And why is it so wrong to set up a LAN server so we can experience the game to the fullest? Pshaw, sir.

If I had to hazard a guess on the reason for the relatively large amount of passworded servers would be that there are a large amount of CS clans who are "testing" it to see if it passes muster (on their own and by request from Craves marketing dept.).

There are probably a LOT of dissatisfied honest clans who are tired of waiting for someone to come up with a magic bullett for the hacking involved with the HL engine. Theres also the undeniable appeal of the weapons and electronics systems and its potential for tournament play.

finally, its like anything else in life like your car, clothes or your wife....you get sick of the same thing day after day and want something new

*shrugs*

CS is tired...old...and FULL of cheating little penises! This game is actually pretty damn good. I thought it was shit when I first played it but as I play it more and more, get used to the guns and how to shoot them it really is growing on me. There are SO many things to buy....add ons for the guns....gas grenades....I mean the list goes on. As far as servers goes...there are some passworded servers but many more that are open then are passworded. I guess you played it when it first came out and don't really have a clue at this point. This game is the shit!

Why is it that I see almost every damn server passworded? There's some I see with lots of people on them playing, I find it hard to believe that all these people know the password...

Actually, I'd like to correct my statement, I think I would buy this game if it was in Serious Sam price range and they fixed most of the current problems. But for $50, hahahaahhaahahha....

The only way to fix this game enough for me to buy it would probably be a full redesign.

Unreal Tournament 2 come and save me from this onslaught of half assed games!!!

I wish someone from BD would just admit that all the people saying "I'm sure that all these problems are fixed in the shipping version, this is just an old beta" are full of shit. I have never seen anything from BD that says that this beta is not the latest. If anyone can show me where they say this, then perhaps I'll believe you. But until then, it's just a bunch of people with their heads up their asses falling all over themselves to see who can be the biggest BD apologist.

Of course any games company that is silly enough to write a dedicated server whos requirements are set out as 1500mhz for ONE 24 player dedicated server is going to have problems with a shortage of servers no matter what.

Until game developers start recognising how important their ded servers are to the success of their game online, and stop producing the buggy crap they keep forcing us to deal with, the sooner they will have more servers online, and I'll stop getting questions like 'why dont you run a server for x game' five million times a day.
