I can really recommend the 7-Day trial. I tried it, decided I didn't like it after about 5 or 6 hours of play and cancelled my account.

I'm sure there are those of you who enjoy it - and the trail period is a very honest way of letting people make up their own mind. Bottom line, I have little good to say about their product, but nothing bad to say about Funcom as a result of my test.

New content include:
- Five new static dungeons (Steps of Madness, Cyborg Barracks, Biomare, Camelot Castle & Smuggler's Den), each with entirely new creatures & items.
- More static quests (chain-linked missions outside of the mission terminals)
- The mission styles are being updated to make sure they're 100% technically sound (pet pathing, etc.). Work has already started on new mission styles, but all the old ones will get a fresh coat of polish first.
- Outdoor roaming bosses.
- Much improved PvP balance.
- Scores of new nanos, phatter loot, etc.
- Team missions, with bosses coming next patch.
- blah, blah, there's more but, wtf.

Even if they fix all the lag and bugs, the game is built on the shakiest of technical foundations. The engine sucks. Collision is haphazard. Transition between zones is the polar opposite of seamless. The rendering of the world seems to rely on the old brute force method, rather than the clever culling techniques of most modern engines. Perhaps it was a mistake that they wrote their own engine, rather than (like Mythic) buying in a proven system. All this clunkiness serves to undermine the pretty shapes, which was AO's one big advantage over the other MMORPG's.

Well, this is one of the biggest problems of AO. Funcom is so damn busy trying to balance all the classes and fix hundreds of little things that keep breaking, they're far from being in a position to add new content.

I'm only a level 16 right now, and frankly, I can't see myself playing it for a very long time unless they add a lot of new content. The mission system actually works now, but it sure does get repetitive.

I would hope it runs better since it has alot less players on the server how can it not? I won't give them the time of day again go try DAOC it was pretty damn flawless at launch and they have been cramming more content intot he game without adding tons of bugs and the servers crashing all over the place.

I fired it up again last weekend to give AO another try and found it to still be really laggy and the controls to be a complete mess. I hated it still. However, I do know quite a few people who seem more forgiving about these things than me and are enjoying the game regardless. I don't recommend it for the two reasons I wrote about at the beginning of this paragraph, but my friends would say give it a try. It's a free download with a seven day free trial, so there's nothing to lose (I made up my mind I hated it again after only two hours, so your miliage will vary).

It may be stable, but did they add any content? Thats what killed it for me, there was nothing to do.

I was one of the beta testers of AO, and let me tell you, it's come a very long way. One thing that bothers me about this interview is that Henning Solberg says that next time they'll have more beta testers so they could catch more bugs. Huh? How many tens of thousands of beta testers were there? And let me tell you, the bugs were not difficult to find.. However, these same bugs easily found in beta testing were STILL IN the released version.

Last month, I decided to try out the free 7 day trial. I'm glad I did. The game is quite solid now (Read: Playable), and after figuring out that AO did not like my SB Live! card since I had onboard audio on my mobo, I can play as long as I wish without crashes.

Only problem is, it's a HUGE time waster. I'm sure my wife curses the name "FunCom" often.

I have been hearing in a few places that this game is finally getting good. My question is for those who play it. How is it better than at launch? I have to say, it was really fun when I first started it (not counting the lag/crashes). But after a while, the missions were the same old stuff and I could never find anything outside of the city to play with. Has this changed? Is there more content or just bug fixes?
